  • Patent number: 5018510
Abstract: The disclosed commerical coin-operated scale-platform massager has a frame, and a foot platform supported by a weight cell movably relative to the frame. The weight cell provides the primary support for the foot platform, and is distorted by the weight of a person standing on the foot platform and calibrated to determine the weight of the person. A driving vibrator in the form of an electric motor having an eccentric weight keyed to its output shaft is mounted on snubber means relative to the frame, and linking means connect the driving vibrator and foot platform together, operable when the driving vibrator is activated to vibrate the foot platform relative to the frame, as a platform massager.

  • Patent number: 4989589
Abstract: A device for massaging extremities of the body, such as legs, and for activating fluid flows, said device consisting of consecutive, annular, mutually connected elastic jacket bags disposed to encircle the leg and in which pressures can be produced with the aid of a pressure source and a fluid, which cause a massaging effect. The drawback encumbering devices of this type known in prior art is that control of the pressure has been arranged by means of very complicated valve systems. The intervening space defined between the jacket bags of the present invention and the foot have also been connected to the pressure source and can therefore be pressurized, whereby the jacket bags are with the aid of the pressure in the intervening space simultaneously depletable of pressure and further, after the jacket bags have been pressurized, the intervening space is, with the aid of the pressure in the jacket bags, depletable of pressure.

  • Patent number: 4962762
Abstract: A modular self-contained orthotic device which is relatively simple and safe to construct, so as to enable one in need of such a device to cause the orthotic to be made quickly and inexpensively. The device comprises a housing member which encases a resilient impression material impregnated with a chemical curing agent. The housing and impression material are internally positioned in the bottom of an enclosure element which secures the entire device on to, and around, a user's foot. The impression material conforms to, and hardens in the shape of, the user's foot as the result of the introduction of a liquid medium which reacts with the curing agent impregnated into the resilient material. After the previously resilient material has hardened, the user may withdraw his/her foot from the orthotic. The resulting hardened casting may then be trimmed, cleaned and resurfaced for actual use as an orthotic in an individual's shoe.

  • Patent number: 4960110
Abstract: It is the bed-typed massaging apparatus which consists of the framed basic body of bed possible to bend by the coupler on the both sides of the longer direction, the rails possible to bend set in parallel on the both sides of the basic body, the driving device which drives the driving belt installed the roller for massaging along the rails, the adjusting device for tensioning the belt set at one side of the above-mentioned basic body, the tension unit set at another side of the basic body and the position detecting device of the roller for massaging. The roller for massaging goes and returns usually on the rail by the motion of the driving device. It is possible to massage the whole body lying down with the face upward. We utilize it as a chair at the bending situation, the rail maintained on the framed basic body made of the pipe is possible to massage partially without bending the rails.

  • Patent number: 4955369
Abstract: A dynamically shiftable knee brace is used to counteract anterior tibial displacement caused during leg extension by the quadriceps muscle when the anterior cruciate ligament is missing or damaged. The brace includes pairs of rigid thigh and calf support members which extend along and are strapped to thigh and calf portions of the leg, the support member pairs being pivotally connected at their inner ends to one another by a pair of specially designed hinges positioned on opposited sides of the knee. As the leg is extended from a flexed position toward its fully straightened position the hinges cause a relative anterior-posterior shift between the support member pairs in a manner creating a shear force across the knee which is opposite that generated by the quadriceps muscle.

  • Patent number: 4951565
Abstract: A printing mechanism is described having a plurality of type carriers (12, 34) which at their outer peripheral face carry in one region printing types and in another region indicator types (44). The printing types can be brought by turning the type carriers (12, 34) into a printing position. The turning travel of the type carriers (12, 34) can be limited with the aid of stop means (100, 102, 104, 106, 110). By means of a setting means (32, 20, 24) which can be brought by axial displacement into a drive connection with each of the type carriers (12, 34) each type carrier (12, 34) can be turned. A torque limiting means (96) permits transfer of a limited torque between a first component (32) and a second component (20) of the setting means. A securing means (68, 72) serves for axially fixed connection of the first component (32) to the second component (20).

  • Patent number: 4947834
Abstract: A device is disclosed which comprises at least one sleeve having a number of chambers. The sleeve may be placed around the patient's extremity which is to be treated, and the chambers can be inflated and deflated by means of valves. To accomplish an optimum treatment of the patient and an uncomplicated construction of the device, all the valves are connected in series and arranged to be operated successively in cascade-fashion via common feed and control pipes which are connected only to the first valve, whilst downstream each pair of mutually adjacent valves are interconnected via sections of feed and control pipes. In each valve a valve member such as a diaphragm separates a supply volume of the valve, which is in constant communication with an infeeding feed pipe section and with the assoicated chamber, from a valve control volume which is in constant communication with the control pipe.

  • Patent number: 4947833
Abstract: A bed-type massaging apparatus having an elongate frame with a middle hinge so that the frame divides the bed into two parts which can be folded one over onto the other. A pair of roller-type massaging devices are supported on each of the frame halves and include rollers which extend transversely of the bed. Rotatable drive shafts extend transversely adjacent opposite ends of the bed and have drive wheels on the ends thereof joined together by endless driving belts or chains which extend longitudinally along opposite sides of the bed. These chains join to carriages associated with the massaging devices so that the massaging devices can be simultaneously moved in a pattern whereby they are simultaneously moved inwardly toward the center of the bed and then outwardly away from the center of the bed. A single drive motor is provided for driving one of the shafts.

  • Patent number: 4946298
Abstract: A printing apparatus including a printing section defined between a platen and a printing head mounted for movement in parallel with the platen to convert information into printed form on a printing medium placed in the printing section. At least one pair of feed rollers is provided for feeding the printing medium to the printing section and at least one pair of discharge rollers is provided for discharging the printing medium from the printing section. The nip of the feed rollers are substantially flush with the printing section and the nip of the discharge rollers is substantially flush with the printing section. The printing apparatus includes two printing medium guide paths. The first guide path is curved for guiding the printing medium to the nip of the feed rollers. The second guide path extends straight toward the nip of the feed rollers. The second guide path is effective to feed a thick or inflexible printing medium to the printing section.

  • Patent number: 4945900
Abstract: The present invention relates to a roller massaging apparatus performing massage by applying pushing pressure on a human body by means of a pushing pressure roller. The pushing pressure roller is supported rotatably on the operating hole of the pushing pressure roller 3 for inserting the operating shaft 2 is formed in an inner diameter large enough for the shaft diameter of the operating shaft 2, and a cavity part provided by the hollow part of the pushing pressure rollers is formed between the operating shaft and the inner peripheral surface of the pushing pressure roller on the operating shaft 2. In such a construction, even if the pushing pressure roller is deformed elastically, this deformation is absorbed by the cavity part, and the rolling operation of the pushing pressure roller 3 is not obstructed. In addition, a soft material giving a comfortable touch with the body can be used for the pushing pressure roller, resulting in an improvement in feeling during use.
