  • Patent number: 11131868
Abstract: A corrective lens that can improve contrast sensitivity in a dark place, for example, at night is provided. When an axis in the anteroposterior direction passing through the geometric center of a lens is defined as the z-axis and a direction extending to the rear side of the lens is defined as the positive direction of the z-axis, a focal depth extension component represented by Ar3 (where r is the distance from the z-axis and A is a constant) is added to the z-coordinate value of a refractive surface determined based on a prescription power to increase the focal depth. The focal depth that decreases (shallows) in a dark place is increased to facilitate focusing on a target object located in front of or behind the original focal point. This can improve contrast sensitivity in a dark place.

  • Patent number: 11126061
Abstract: A beam steering device includes a substrate with a first refractive index that defines a cavity, an electroactive material in the cavity that has a variable refractive index, and two sets of opposing overlays. The overlays in one set of opposing overlays are parallel to each other, while the overlays in the other set are tilted with respect to each other. This allows one or more electric fields between the overlays to be used to align the electroactive material in two different directions to change its refractive index, allowing for a faster speed of beam steering through refraction than conventional approaches.

  • Patent number: 11079613
Abstract: A method includes placing a contact lens over a cornea of an eye. The contact lens includes a central convex disc, a peripheral curved portion that extends radially from the disc, an annular groove formed in the disc on the posterior portion, and one or more apertures formed in the groove. A drug substance is placed over the anterior portion of the contact lens. The groove is in contact with the cornea and is a depot for the drug substance. The groove is in fluid connection with the anterior portion of the lens via the one or more apertures. The drug substance moves in an undiluted manner to the groove and the contact lens holds the drug substance in contact with the cornea, unaffected by blinking or tear exchange, facilitating enhanced bioavailability to the cornea of the drug substance.
