  • Patent number: 6771605
Abstract: A method for identifying faulty modules within telecommunication devices, such as ATM switches, involves generating and attaching verification codes, such as CRC or checksum codes, to data packets, such as ATM cells, at an upstream location, determining the integrity of the verification codes at each of multiple downstream location within a telecommunication device; and signaling an error condition where a corrupted data packet has been detected. A verification code may be written to a filed of a data packet which is not used while the ATM cell is in transit through the telecommunication device, thereby identifying a faulty module device without adversely affecting throughput.

  • Patent number: 6631141
Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for which associate physical links of a network device to aggregator ports of the network device where there are more physical links of the network device capable of aggregation than aggregator ports of the network device. Physical links are associated with the aggregator ports of the network device based on a session invariant characteristic of the physical links until either all of the aggregator ports of the network device have been associated with physical links or all of the physical links capable of aggregation have been associated with an aggregator port. The remaining physical links are then utilized as single links to the network device irrespective of the physical link's capability to aggregate.

  • Patent number: 6611516
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, a system is provided that includes a cellular network, a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and a mobile IP-telephony network (MIPTN). Both the cellular network and the MIPTN include a Home Function and one or more visited Functions. MIPTN subscribers can roam within the MIPTN. Also, a Gateway Function interfaces the PSTN and the MIPTN to allow roaming between the cellular network and the MIPTN. The Gateway Function performs a dynamic mapping function between PSTN/cellular addresses (e.g., in E.16440 format) and MIPTN addresses (e.g., IP addresses) to allow registration and call delivery for subscribers roaming between the cellular network and the MIPTN. A similar type of Gateway Function also allows Short Message Service (SMS) messages to be delivered over the MIPTN as well.

  • Patent number: 6611536
Abstract: An Integrated Voice/Data System on a Single RF Channel for broadcast applications such as Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), and mobile facsimile (fax) in the frequency region range of 450 MHz to 800 MHz on 25 kHz radio frequency (RF) channels. The system utilizes a dynamic multiplexing technique referred to as Packetized Data/Voice Dedicated (PDVD) Burst Switching, and Lookahead (a digital signal process). PDVD allows transmission of data within silence gaps inherent in speech. Lookahead provides data sources with advanced knowledge of channel(s) where the silence gaps will occur The Integrated Voice/Data System may be retrofitted into existing 450 MHz-800 MHz public and private land mobile radio channels to provide users with full data services and triples voice capacity.

  • Patent number: 6603769
Abstract: A method and system for improving traffic operation in an internet environment by speeding up data packet transfers between a source host attached to a first Local Area Network (LAN), and a target host attached to a second (different) LAN, both LANs being interconnected by a router. The invention enables said router self configuring into a bridge over the path between said source and target hosts, selectively and dynamically during traffic operation. To that end, upon first packet being sent, the source host pushes said packet over the first LAN toward the router. When receiving said first packet, the router reads its IP table locating the target host on its LAN, and then runs a conventional ARP over its LAN to get the address of the target sending back its MAC address. The router stores the MAC address of the target host into an ARP table and sets an entry into a so-called transparent bridging table accordingly.

  • Patent number: 6574235
Abstract: A method for receiving a plurality of communications from a respective plurality of transmitters using a common carrier frequency includes receiving a plurality of information signals on a common carrier frequency corresponding to the plurality of communications from the plurality of transmitters, and generating first and second separated signals corresponding to respective first and second ones of the information signals so that the first separated signal includes a primary component corresponding to the first information signal and so that the second separated signal includes a primary component corresponding to the second information signal. The first separated signal is demodulated to provide an estimate of a first information sequence corresponding to the first information signal, and the estimate of the first information sequence is modulated to provide a modulated estimate of the first information sequence.

  • Patent number: 6570882
Abstract: A method for managing a queue of cells received from a plurality of sources, wherein the last cell received is stored at a receive address in a buffer, and a time stamp is established for the last cell received that represents the theoretical time it is to leave the queue. The receive address is inserted into a programmer at a location identified by the time stamp of the last cell received, and an occupancy bit associated with the time stamp is set to an active state. The first cell(s) to leave the queue from the first active occupancy bit following that of the cell that has just left the queue is determined, with the occupancy bits being classified in increasing order of the associated time stamps, and the occupancy bit of the first cell is set to an inactive state when it leaves the queue.

  • Patent number: 6560198
Abstract: Methods and systems for estimating the number of active connections in a node in a communications network are described. The node estimates the number of active connections, without maintaining state information on each connection in the node, by sampling one or more packets in a buffer in the node when the node receives a packet, determining the number of sampled packets that are associated with the same connection as the received packet, and estimating the number of active connections in the node based on the determined number of the sampled packets. The node stabilizes the number of packets in the buffer by estimating the number of active connections in the node based on a sampling of the packets in the buffer when the node receives a packet, determining a probability for discarding the received packet based on the estimated number of the active connections and the recent buffer occupancy, and discarding the received packet according to the determined probability.

  • Patent number: 6434145
Abstract: Different frames received on a first port are processed by different processing channels in parallel. The processed frames are transmitted to a second port in the same order in which they were received on the first port. The ordering is maintained using a FIFO that receives the number of a processing channel whenever a frame is dispatched to the processing channel. The processing channels are selected to provide frames to the second port in the order of the channel numbers in the ordering FIFO.

  • Patent number: 6404780
Abstract: The present invention provides a synchronizing data protocol comprising one or more serial input-output (SIO) control word(s) and data passed across a high voltage interface, to allow the elimination of a frame synchronization signal (and corresponding AC coupling capacitors). The present invention has particular applicability to, e.g., time division multiplexed (TDM) data, serial data communication devices, or synchronous serial communication interfaces in general, and to the communication between a controller and a codec in an audio codec device in accordance with the AC '97 Specification, i.e., the AC Link. The synchronizing data protocol is implemented over a transmit data signal line to provide occasional synchronization (i.e., not frame-by-frame synchronization) between the two communicating devices. The master device includes a preamble insertion module to insert a predetermined preamble code word into the transmitted data stream.

  • Patent number: 6396823
Abstract: A small and lightweight base station transceiver utilizes a plurality of low-powered time division duplexing switches instead of a single high-powered time division duplexing switch. The base station transceiver includes a forward signal path, a reverse signal path, and a plurality of time division duplexing switches being switchable to the forward signal path or the reverse signal path according to a time division duplexing timing control signal generated from a time division duplexing timing controller. The plurality of time division duplexing switches corresponds to N time division duplexing switches where the symbol N represents a number. Output signals of the time division duplexing switches are filtered in a plurality of N bandpass filters, coupled in a junction coupler, and then radiated in the air through first and second antennas.
