Abstract: A method for manufacturing a cylindrical radiator that includes the step of drawing material to form an elongated blank material having a hollow cylindrical base section and multiple heat-radiating fins radially projecting from the outer circumference of the base section. Next, the elongated blank material is cut to form a plurality of blanks. Then, a top portion of each blank is bored to separate the top portions of the heat-radiating fins from each other. A fan seat is installed into a central through hole of the base section to complete the manufacturing of the cylindrical radiator.

  • Patent number: 6249971
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for introducing a compensating material into a tire/wheel assembly by providing at least one self-contained batch of a compensating material having a predetermined amount of such material and being selectively transferable into a tire. The at least one batch of material remains substantially self-contained for shipping and handling. The at lest one batch is then transferred into the tire, and the tire is thereafter mounted onto a vehicle for operation or otherwise rotated wherein the at least one self-contained batch of material disperses the material within the tire upon rotation. The invention is also directed to a system for introducing a compensating material into a tire/wheel assembly, wherein a predetermined amount of a compensating material in a self-contained batch which remains substantially self-contained during handling, is introduced into a tire prior to assembly with a wheel, and thereafter disperses within the tire during rotation of the tire/wheel assembly.

  • Patent number: 6233826
Abstract: A method for reinforcing a selected portion of a structural part utilizes a flexible tube having a unexpanded, preferably thermally expandable resin sheath. The sheath may be limited to a selected region along the length of the flexible tube. The flexible tube is inserted through a curved passage and conforms to the geometry of the part to be reinforced. After the portion of the tube having the sheath reaches the desired location, the tube is secured in place. Upon heating, the resin expands to several times its original volume and fills the structural cavity only at that region.

  • Patent number: 6230408
Abstract: A method for fabrication of micro heat exchangers, which enable an efficient heat transfer between two flowing media. In a first processing step, a plastic layer is structurized by means of photolithography, x-ray deep lithography, or laser ablation. This plastic structure is galvanically molded in a second processing step, preserving the structural properties. The resulting metallic microstructure, which is the inverse of the original structure, is used as a shaping insert to produce the individual layers from which the micro heat exchanger is assembled. The method according to the invention makes it possible to cheaply produce large numbers of micro heat exchangers.

  • Patent number: 6230409
Abstract: A building panel constructed of a gypsum-cement-catalyst formulation molded in layers and including a rigid stud framework. The layers include surface layers, a fire resistant layer and an insulating layer, as well as reinforcement and building paper. A modified panel is molded in layers with structural strength provided by a grid providing spaced apart wire panels. The panel is constructed by a method that includes applying a fluid material of gypsum and cement into a mold having a removable base. Reinforcing mesh and a rigid framework are inserted into the mold along with building paper and reinforcement which are secured to the framework. Additional gypsum and cement are then applied to cover the framework after setting. The base is removed and the initial layer of gypsum and cement is mechanically fastened to the framework.

  • Patent number: 6223435
Abstract: An improved design and process for manufacturing a valve housing for an existing filling machine. The improved design is an annular lip protruding downwardly at the outlet end and flaring outwardly for directing liquid into the container being filled, and a plurality of liquid discharge openings circumscribed by the annular lip at the outlet end for evenly dispersing liquid down and around the lip and against the sides of the container for accumulation therein without foaming. This design replaces existing press-fit tips which are expensive and unwieldy. Moreover, the above-described design facilitates formation of the entire valve housing from a single unitary piece of stainless bar stock, and the present invention encompasses the process for manufacture. This reduces manufacturing costs and eliminates weld lines and the associated risk of bacterial contamination.

  • Patent number: 6199278
Abstract: A method whereby one or more occluders are inserted in the housing of a prosthetic heart valve by compressing the housing of the prosthetic heart valve at four discrete locations, thereby causing the housing to deform sufficiently for insertion of occluders between diametrically opposed pivot supports on the inner surface of the housing. The appropriate locations for application of the compressive forces are identified. Compression force is then applied using either pin blocks or v-shaped blocks. One or more occluders are inserted in the pivot supports. The compressive forces are released, allowing the housing to return to its unstressed generally annular shape and securing the occluders in the housing.

  • Patent number: 6195894
Abstract: A crank arm for a bicycle includes a crank arm body having a pedal attachment hole on a first end thereof and a spindle attachment hole on a second end thereof. The crank arm body defines an elongated interior cavity surrounded by a shell, wherein the interior cavity is open to an exterior of the crank arm body. The opening can be used to access the cavity during and after manufacturing. The shape of the cavity may be varied to produce a lightweight yet strong structure. In the method used to form the crank arm body, a mold core formed by a shell containing a sand-like filler material is positioned into a casting mold so that a melt space is formed around the mold core, molten metal is poured into the casting mold, and the molten metal is solidified to form a crank billet. The filler material may be removed through an opening in the crank billet.
