  • Patent number: 5638922
Abstract: The present invention is a pull-back, windup type spring drive unit with two output shafts capable of transmitting driving force to the front-wheels and rear-wheels. This unit is provided with: a frame; front-wheel and rear wheel output shafts; a drive gear; a spring; a windup gear mechanism; first and second running gear mechanisms connectable to the front-wheel and rear-wheel shafts; and a constant speed mechanism. When one of the output shafts is rotated for winding, switching gear of the windup gear mechanism moves to a mesh position and the rotation of the output shaft for winding is transmitted to the drive gear to wind up the spring. When the drive gear is rotated for running, switching gears of the respective running gear mechanism move to the respective mesh positions to transmit the rotation of the drive gear to each of the output shafts.

  • Patent number: 5606889
Abstract: The initiator (32) has a hollow spool housing (34) with sidewall slots (42,44) and within which is received a shaft (54) to be releasably retained. Spool segments (46,48) are placed within slots (42,44) and have parts extending into the housing bore (50) obstructingly engaging the shaft (54) preventing its removal. A spring coil (82) wound over the spool segments (46,48) holds them in place. Cartridge assembly (62) is releasably secured to the housing (34) and includes a link wire (72) for securing one end of the coil (82). The link wire (72) is destructible by passing an electric current therethrough exceeding a certain value.

  • Patent number: 5592852
Abstract: A mechanical oscillator including a shaft having an endless groove in its periphery, a nut body carried by and slidable along the shaft at the location of the endless groove, and a roller pin carried by the nut body, having a nose portion extending into and engaging a wall of the endless groove and having a tail portion disposed deeply in the nut body. A plurality of anti-friction bearings is carried by the nut body, the bearings carrying the roller pin. The anti-friction bearings include both a ball bearing and a needle bearing, the ball bearing being disposed adjacent the nose portion of the roller pin, and the needle bearing being located adjacent the ball bearing and engaged with a tail portion of the roller pin. The roller pins are carried on two carrier strips respectively disposed at opposite sides of the nut body. The carrier strips and associated roller pins can be removed as a unit, thereby simplifying replacement as required by damage or wear.

  • Patent number: 5588325
Abstract: An auxiliary PTO assembly is designed for attaching a front mounted auxiliary rotary driven hydraulic pump to an OEM truck engine. The PTO assembly includes an auxiliary belt drive pulley which is formed by a ring which is shrink-fitted around a harmonic balancer which forms a portion of an OEM fan drive pulley. A bracket attached to the OEM engine is adapted to hold the hydraulic pump and a plurality of idler and tensioner pulleys. Installation of the inventive assembly is relatively simple and straight forward and entails virtually no modification of the OEM components. The entire PTO assembly including the auxiliary drive belt and the hydraulic pump are accommodated behind the original position of the OEM cooling fan such that the fan shaft does not need to be extended.

  • Patent number: 5575734
Abstract: A variable-speed drive (1) having an input shaft (3), at least one output shaft (4), and a system (5) for connecting the input shaft (3) to the output shaft (4) and enabling the velocity ratio of the shafts (3, 4) to be varied continuously; which system is defined by a first truncated-cone-shaped rotary body (6) angularly secured to the output shaft (4) and defined laterally by a curved convex surface (7) having a given radius of curvature and by a number of second truncated-cone-shaped rotary bodies (8) angularly secured to the input shaft (3) and arranged in a ring about the first rotary body (6). Each second rotary body (8) is defined laterally by a curved concave surface (9) having a radius of curvature greater than that of the convex surface (7) defining the first rotary body (6).

  • Patent number: 5553510
Abstract: A multi-speed transmission for transmitting power between a first shaft and a second shaft includes a plurality of gear sets, a plurality of connector gears corresponding to the plurality of gear sets and a shifting mechanism. Each gear set includes a first gear rotatably disposed about the first shaft, a uni-directional free wheeling mechanism between the first gear and the first shaft, and a second gear coupled to the second shaft. The uni-directional free wheeling mechanism permits the first gear to freely rotate about the shaft when the first gear rotates in a preselected direction relative to the rotation of the first shaft and locks the first gear to the first shaft at all other times. The first and second gears are spaced apart from one another but may be interconnected by one of the plurality of connector gears. Each connector gear is movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position.
