  • Patent number: 6708040
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, mobile unit and base station access request and page transmissions are addressed by employing an efficient unified approach for the transmission and detection of both access requests from a mobile unit and pages from a base station. To this end, a mobile unit monitors for access requests and monitors a prescribed resource to detect if a page has been received. Upon detection of an access request, a corresponding request message is generated and transmitting substantially immediately to a base station, thereby minimizing latency in the access process. Concurrently, a base station monitors to determine if a page indication has been received and monitors a prescribed resource to determine if an access request message has been received. In this process, the processing of request messages takes precedence over the processing of pages.

  • Patent number: 6650876
Abstract: The present invention is related to a terrestrial cellular radio communication network comprising at least a first base station (BS1) in which a common set of multi carrier power amplifiers (409-412) are used to amplify radio signals transmitted by the first base station (BS1) in different cells. The invention enables reductions in the total maximum output power the first base station (BS1) needs to support when downlink power control functions, such as power control or discontinuous transmission, and/or Adaptive Channel Allocation are applied in the cells served by the first base station (BS1).

  • Patent number: 6625461
Abstract: A method and system for increasing compatibility among telecommunications networks using different types of signaling systems. Current location information for a mobile station is stored in a register. Subsequently, a telecommunication node attempting to access the mobile station requests current location data from the register. It is determined, however, that the stored location information is incompatible with a signaling system used by the telecommunication node. As a result, a physical address that corresponds to the stored location information is identified as being compatible with the signaling system. The identified physical address is then used to perform the access of the mobile station. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the attempted access of the mobile station is for purposes of delivering a short message service (SMS) message. In another embodiment, the attempted access comprises an attempt to set up an international call connection.

  • Patent number: 6606502
Abstract: In a cellular telecommunications network, a method and system allowing a Message Center (MC) to receive an indication of the periodic broadcast SMS capability of co-operating Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) when a periodic broadcast SMS is initiated. According to the invention, when a periodic broadcast SMS request is sent from an MC to one MSC for broadcast to the Mobile Stations (MSs), the MSC detects its own capability to handle the periodic broadcast SMS request. Therefore, an indication of the MSC's capability is sent back to the MC. If the MSC accepts to handle the periodic broadcast SMS request on its own, the MSC records the message and periodically broadcasts it to the destination MSs. If not, the MC periodically sends a regular broadcast SMS request along with an instruction for delivery to the MSC, which in turn forwards the SMS body message to the destination MSs.

  • Patent number: 6603975
Abstract: A traffic controller determines flow control parameters regarding a packet transfer in the downward direction based on traffic amount information for each application measured by a traffic monitor, communication quality information in the radio zone collected by a wireless base station for communication with a mobile terminal, and communication quality information of each application collected by a subscriber exchange and notifies the flow control parameters to the subscriber exchange.

  • Patent number: 6546238
Abstract: Landline facilities are linked to a wireless mobile network for calling party pays (CPP) calls to mobile stations. In response to placement of a telephone call to a CPP subscriber station, a land line network data base is accessed to obtain a call processing record for the called station that is indicative that the called station subscribes to CPP service. Based on the call processing record, a determination is made as to whether the call is be accorded exception status from CPP service. If the call is to receive such exception status, a signaling message is transmitted to the mobile switching center (MSC) for the called subscriber station. The signaling message includes the calling station telephone number in altered form. The MSC, upon detection of the altered telephone number, effectively recognizes the call as a normal call. The MSC will complete the call to the called party and establish in the called party subscriber's billing record assessment of air time charges for the call to the called party.

  • Patent number: 6504833
Abstract: The system assigns, to the specific MT, the channel defined as the combination of one of the group codes and one of the address identifiers. The group code is selected to correspond to the channel group to which the specific MT belongs. The address identifier is determined to be unique in the channel group of the specific MT. Thus, the combination of the group code and the address identifier is unique in the service area provided by the BS, to serve the channel of the specific of the specific MT.
