  • Patent number: 8996691
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing out-of-band network traffic monitoring such as intrusion detection to clients on a provider network. A client can configure new or existing components and specify that traffic monitoring be added on or at the components in the client's configuration on the provider network. Traffic monitoring is provided for the client's configuration via replication technology on the provider network. In response to the client specifying that traffic monitoring is to be added on or at a component, traffic to the client's configuration is routed to replication technology, which may be implemented at a network substrate level, that passes one copy to the client's configuration and sends another copy to a destination that handles traffic monitoring such as an intrusion detection handler. The destination may be anywhere on the provider network or on an external network.

  • Patent number: 8990383
Abstract: Metrics may be recomputed using available computing resources according to elastic service level agreements (SLAs). The available computing resources may have a predetermined capacity, such as a fixed number of servers, computation time, and/or computation cost. The SLA may define an accuracy, confidence level, or goal that is used when determining a frequency to recompute metrics. The elastic SLA may vary and/or may be adjusted based on a relative difficulty of the computational task, an expected or requested accuracy of the computation task, or other predetermined design constraints.

  • Patent number: 8959140
Abstract: A communication device may include a text messaging routing application. In response to a user-request to send a text message to a designated recipient over an Internet messaging system, the text messaging routing application may cause a query to be sent to the Internet messaging system asking whether the designated recipient of the text message is registered with the Internet messaging system or with an affiliate thereof. If the response to the query is in the negative, the text messaging routing application may cause the text message to be sent to the designated recipient over a cellular telephone network. If the response to the query is in the affirmative, the text messaging routing application may cause the text message to be sent to the designated recipient over the Internet using the Internet messaging system.

  • Patent number: 8949372
Abstract: A request message containing a first description defining a portion to be extracted from multimedia data and a second description defining a scheme for extracting the portion is received from a data reception apparatus. The portion defined by the first description is extracted as partial data from the multimedia data. A coefficient corresponding to the scheme defined by the second description is acquired. Whether a value corresponding to the acquired coefficient is larger than a threshold is determined. If the value is larger than the threshold, the partial data is compressed, and compressed data obtained by the compression is transmitted to the data reception apparatus. If the value is equal to or smaller than the threshold, the partial data is transmitted to the data reception apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8782192
Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods for detecting resource consumption events over sliding intervals in cloud-based network. A set of aggregate usage history data can record consumption of processor, software, or other resources subscribed to by a set of users, in one cloud or across multiple clouds. An entitlement engine can analyze the usage history data to identify a subscription margin for the subscribed resources, reflecting collective under-consumption of resources by the set of users on a collective basis, over different and/or dynamically updated subscription periods.

  • Patent number: 8675513
Abstract: A mobile station and a radio access network (RAN) use a single-channel forward link and a single-channel reverse link for a communication session. If the quality of the communication session degrades, the single-channel forward link is replaced with a multi-channel forward link and/or the single-channel reverse link is replaced with a multi-channel reverse link. The multi-channel forward link may include a first forward link channel and a second forward link channel, each with a higher coding gain than that of the single-channel forward link, to provide an aggregate data rate that is substantially the same as that of the single-channel forward link. The multi-channel reverse link may include a first reverse link channel and a second reverse link channel, each with a higher coding gain than that of the single-channel reverse link, to provide an aggregate data rate that is substantially the same as that of the single-channel reverse link.

  • Patent number: 8670358
Abstract: A full duplex radio bridge using two transceivers coupled to a first packet network, one for transmitting data toward another radio bridge coupled to a second packet network, and the other for receiving data transmitted from the first packet network toward said second packet network by a transceiver of the other radio bridge. Each radio bridge is coupled to its packet network through one network port whose transmit data path is coupled to one of the transceivers, and whose receive data path is coupled to receive data from the other transceiver. An inner loop and outer loop is used. Management packets are routed to the various transceivers using the inner loop and outer loop by routing and filtering functions. Payload packets are transmitted from one packet network to the other using only the outer loop.

  • Patent number: 8649340
Abstract: A wireless LAN system, device, and method, and a medium having a wireless LAN program is provided. Wireless LAN devices are able to wirelessly communicate with each other by using a plurality of channels. A wireless LAN device is provided, including a requesting section and a post-request restoring section. The requesting section transmits a probe request by using a second channel selected from among a plurality of channels that the wireless LAN device can use, the probe request being assigned channel information indicating a first channel that the wireless LAN device currently uses. The post-request restoring section, when the second channel is not identical to the first channel, restores the channel used by the wireless LAN device from the second channel to the first channel within a first predetermined period from start of use of the second channel, after the transmission of the probe request.

  • Patent number: 8619646
Abstract: Methods and arrangements are provided where signaling of the modulation type by means of rotation of the training sequence is provided. For each modulation type, a set of rotation angles is chosen. These sets have no element in common. New training sequences are generated by rotating one original training sequence. The rotation angle that minimizes the PAPR of the transmit signal can be chosen. At the receiver side, knowing the original training sequence, the receiver estimates blindly the rotation angle among the known possible rotation angles. The estimated rotation angle in the receiver maps to a unique modulation type.
