    Abstract: A heterogeneous convolutional neural network (HCNN) system includes a visual reception system generating an input image. A feature extraction layer (FEL) portion of convolutional neural networks includes multiple convolution, pooling and activation layers stacked together. The FEL includes multiple stacked layers, a first set of layers learning to represent data in a simple form including horizontal and vertical lines and blobs of colors. Following layers capture more complex shapes such as circles, rectangles, and triangles. Subsequent layers pick up complex feature combinations to form a representation including wheels, faces and grids. The FEL portion outputs data to each of: a first sub-network which performs a first task of object detection, classification, and localization for classes of objects in the input image to create a detected object table; and a second sub-network which performs a second task of defining a pixel level segmentation to create a segmentation data set.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to providing a more accurate presentation of a vehicle's surroundings when the presentation combines images from multiple cameras. Cameras may capture the same portion of the environment. If an object is within view of at least two cameras, each camera produces a portion of an overall view, such as a 360 degree synthetic top-down view. The seam, angle and/or geometry, angle between any two images is dynamically determined, such as due to proximity (or lack thereof) to an object. As a result the synthetic top-down view may present an image of an object more prominently and/or avoid having the seam between camera images fall on the image of the object, which may otherwise result in the image of the object being omitted from both camera images.

This makes it possible to display a moving object while the position, direction and size thereof are properly set. Another advantage is that when a plurality of markers are extracted, information relating to the direction and size of the object is retained and the proximal and distal directions of the object and the length of a device (e.g., stent) can be intuitively determined from an image. Since positioning is performed using the plurality of positions of markers and the plurality of display positions, the position and direction of a corrected image to be finally displayed can also be set properly.

Moreover, the detection method requires very few computational resources, making it very efficient and especially suitable for mobile devices.
