  • Patent number: 8625005
Abstract: A buffered scene-based non-uniformity correction method includes receiving a plurality of frames of video image data from an image detector; determining relative movement of a current image frame with respect to a previous image frame and responsive to a determination of substantial movement, adding the current image frame to a buffer memory sized to store a predetermined number of video frames; averaging pixel values of the frames in the buffer to determine a mean (or weighted mean) value for each pixel of a reference image; determining correction terms for each pixel of the current image frame by determining the difference between the current image frame pixel values and the corresponding reference image pixels; and correcting the current image frame using the correction terms. A scene-based non-uniformity correction system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8614749
Abstract: An evaluation value for a pixel in an eye region in an image is computed, which is increased with increase in the redness of the pixel and with decrease in the luminance of the pixel. Furthermore, a color saturation value for the pixel included in the eye region is corrected with the use of a luminance value for a surrounding region around an eye and the evaluation value. In this case, the color saturation value is corrected such that the amount of correction is smaller in a case in which the luminance value is smaller even with the same evaluation value, thereby achieving improvement in the correction factor of and prevention of false corrections of a redeye region with a low color saturation and a low luminance.

  • Patent number: 8587714
Abstract: A method for capturing an image, suitable for an image capturing apparatus with a flash lamp, is provided. In the invention, a pre-flash image is captured when a pre-flash is fired by the flash lamp. An intensity of a main flash is estimated. Whether the pre-flash image is overexposed is determined for calculating an overexposure number. A brightness comparison data is looked up according to the overexposure number and a brightness target value, so as to reduce a photosensitivity. A raw image is captured according to the reduced photosensitivity when the main flash is fired by the flash lamp.

  • Patent number: 8553127
Abstract: This invention can reduce the circuit scale by synthesizing OSD data to be superposed on a picture of each resolution by using common OSD data. According to this invention, a video resolution converter converts an HD (High Definition) video signal into an SD (Standard Definition) video signal such as an NTSC or PAL video signal. A memory controller receives a sync signal identical to an SD picture obtained by frequency-dividing an HD video signal, and a sync signal based on an SD video signal, and reads out OSD data (4 bits per pixel) from the memory on the basis of these sync signals. The OSD data read out on the basis of the SD video signal is synthesized with the SD video signal by an SD_OSD_MIX unit, and then output. The OSD data read out on the basis of the SD sync signal synchronized with the HD is multiplied by an integer by an OSD resolution converter, synthesized with an HD video signal by an HD_OSD_MIX unit, and then output.

  • Patent number: 8482624
Abstract: An image pickup device is equipped with a function to a pickup still picture during a moving picture pickup operation with voices. After a moving picture pickup processing with voices is started (YES in S2), a moving picture recording processing and a voice recording processing are started (S14). Subsequently, when a shutter button is depressed halfway (YES in S16), the moving picture recording processing is switched to a processing to store substitute frames, which are a copy of frame data immediately preceding the half depression operation of the shutter button, instead of moving picture frames imaged in moving picture frame cycles (step S20), and a still picture pickup processing is performed. After the still picture pickup processing ends, the normal moving picture recording processing is resumed.

  • Patent number: 8355058
Abstract: An image pickup apparatus capable of forming a corrected image which does not give a feeling of wrongness to a user. In the apparatus, an image pickup element photoelectrically converts an optical image to output the same as image data. A target correction value is calculated for correcting image quality degradation due to a lens unit, based on lens characteristic information and a status of the lens unit. A system controller sets a rate of change to stepwise make the current correction value closer to the target correction value, and repeatedly calculates the correction value according to the target correction value and the rate of change. The image data is corrected based on the repeatedly calculated correction value. The rate of change is changed depending on the relationship between a preceding value of the correction value calculated in the past and the target correction value.
