  • Patent number: 7457237
Abstract: A media gateway controller (MGC) is described herein that implements a shared risk group package to control and prevent a media gateway (MG) from establishing redundant links like a primary link and a secondary link that use resources that share the same risk of failure. Essentially, the MGC uses the shared risk group package to control which resources like ephemeral terminations are used by the MG to establish the primary link and the secondary link such that if any of the resources associated with the primary link fail then the secondary link remains operational within the MG and if any of the resources associated with the secondary link fail then the primary link remains operational within the MG.

  • Patent number: 7450553
Abstract: A system and method for selecting a starting point to transmit a beacon (BTSP) from a coordinator and a first node in a communication system. The communication system includes the coordinator, a first node group with at least one node having the first node which receives the beacon from the coordinator, and a second node group with at least one node having a second node which receives the beacon from the first node. The coordinator determines a beacon window size for the beacon transmission, selects the BTSP within the beacon window size, and transmits at the BTSP, the beacon containing information on the beacon window size and the BTSP. The first node selects its BTSP within the beacon window size so as not to overlap with the BTSP of the received beacon.

  • Patent number: 7447225
Abstract: A technique prevents multiple multicast forwarders from forwarding multicast packets for a route over a link in a computer network during non-stop forwarding (NSF) recovery of one or more failures in a control plane of a multicast router. The multicast router has a functional infrastructure that allows data traffic forwarding operations to continue throughout a data plane of the router in the presence of a failure and/or software restart to a multicast component, e.g., a protocol independent multicast (PIM) routing protocol, executing in the control plane. Another multicast component, e.g., a multicast forwarding information base (MFIB) executing in the data plane, is configured to prevent multiple multicast forwarders due to routing changes in the network that arise during NSF recovery.

  • Patent number: 7420927
Abstract: After completion of a voice-over IP call, for example, first information representing a Layer 3 path of a packet flow of a completed call that has passed through a packet-switched network is created. Second information representing a Layer 2 path of a packet flow of the completed call is also created. One or more selected phone call detail records are retrieved, which are associated with the completed call. Thus, the likely path of a troubled call is determined, and phone call detail records associated with key points in the path are located. The first information, second information, and selected phone call detail records are provided to a user for use in evaluating one or more problems experienced in the completed call.

  • Patent number: 7420928
Abstract: The invention relates to the testing of transmission quality of transmission links in a packet network. According to the invention, the director and responder functionality are made available in a resource server of the packet network. In order to perform a quality test, a connection is set up between the resource server and at least one gateway and potentially between two gateways by a packet-oriented switching center. Test signals are transmitted by the resource server and, after being mirrored at one or two gateways, are transmitted back to the resource server. The broadcast test signals are evaluated for transmission-related reductions in quality, e.g. distortion and attenuation, and the results of this evaluation for different broadcast links are combined in order to obtain information concerning the transmission quality of individual partial links. The invention is advantageous in that it makes complicated and expensive test functions available on centralized resource servers.

  • Patent number: 7400609
Abstract: A channel estimation method for an OFDM transceiver. The OFDM transceiver is configured to derive channel state information (CSI) for a communication channel by processing the preamble of a received OFDM packet. The received packet could be, for example, an unsolicited data packet or a solicited service packet such as an acknowledgement packet. The derived CSI information can then applied to the generation of weighted OFDM packets for transmission over the communication channel. As a result, an improved effective communication channel may be established between this OFDM transceiver and another OFDM transceiver. A channel estimation method of the present invention may be implemented in an access point (AP) or a client terminal (CLT) of a WLAN system. In either case, the improved communication channel can be used, for example, to extend the range corresponding to a selected transmission bit rate and/or to increase the transmission bit rate between the AP and a CLT.

  • Patent number: 7385950
Abstract: For transmitting data between a base station and a transponder, information packets modulated onto an electromagnetic carrier wave each include a header section, a middle section, and an end section. The data are encoded in the middle section using information symbols, e.g. representing digital “1s” and “0s”. The header section of at least the first packet defines the number and unique identifications of all of the symbols that will be used for encoding the data in the middle section of this and/or subsequent packets. This transmission protocol defined in the header section can be varied in subsequent packets to adaptively adjust the transmission rate depending on the existing communication conditions and requirements such as high frequency regulations prescribed by national law. The transmission rate can be considerably increased, in comparison to a transmission rate that would otherwise be necessary for achieving a reliable transmission even under unfavorable conditions.

  • Patent number: 7362742
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enabling mobility of a node that does not support Mobile IP through synchronization of access point information (e.g., subnet mapping tables) among AAPs are disclosed. In accordance with one embodiment, an authoritative access point (AAP) maintains access point information for all functioning access points (APs) and sends updates for all additions or other modifications to the continually changing access point information to other AAPs. This is accomplished by sending a copy of its local subnet mapping table to the other AAPs. The AAPs receiving the subnet mapping table then update their subnet mapping tables corresponding to the received subnet mapping table.
