The set of prominent frames and the pre-defined section of the audio clip correspond to a detected advertisement. The method also includes another step of retrieving plural features. The plural features corresponds to the set of prominent frames and the pre-defined section of the audio clip. The method also includes another step of comparing each of the plurality of features with corresponding pre-defined set of features. Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for detecting potential repeating content, such as commercials, in a video data stream by receiving one or more video data streams, parsing each video data stream into a plurality of segments, creating a representation of each segment such as a segment fingerprint, storing the plurality of segment representations in a database, and identifying any segment representations in the received and parsed one or more video data streams that match segment representations in the database that were previously stored from video data streams that were previously received and parsed.

Abstract: A process that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying a location of a video cue frame within multimedia data based on metadata, an audio track or a combination thereof. The multimedia data is forwarded to a multimedia presentation device and the video cue frame is detected within the multimedia data based on its location. The video cue frame has an image portion including alternative multimedia content and an encoded message, wherein the alternative multimedia content is imperceptible during a normal display rate presentation at the multimedia presentation device. The alternative multimedia content is obtained by way of the video cue frame responsive to receiving a first selection of a first alternative display rate that differs from the normal display rate. The alternative multimedia content is forwarded to the multimedia presentation device based on the encoded message. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system and method for selecting media content for a group of persons located at a venue. The system and method identify a plurality of viewers in a vicinity of a venue that has one or more display devices from location data and extracts a content viewing preference of each viewer from their profile data. The process includes aggregating the content viewing preference of each of the plurality of viewers to generate an aggregated content profile. Based on the aggregated content profile, a list of content is generated. Next, a first group of viewers approaching a viewing range of a display device are sensed by imaging data. Any conflicts between content viewing preferences of the first group of viewers are detected and resolved based on weighting the viewing preferences of the group. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for a media guidance application that can identify and display a portion of a media asset that is of interest to a user. In some embodiments, the media guidance application may extract a portion of the media asset that encompasses a particular main action sequence. The extracted portion may also include an amount of additional content (e.g., content immediately before or after the main action sequence) that the media guidance application determines is necessary for the user to understand the main action sequence. In some embodiments, the media guidance application may extract several media assets, so that a user may graze through the extracted portions in series.

Abstract: The disclosure relates generally to transfer of audio and/or video streams, and, more particularly, to system and method for real-time transfer of the audio and/or video streams through an Ethernet audio/video bridging (AVB) network. In one embodiment, multiple audio and/or video streams from multiple AVB enabled devices are received by an AVB enabled network device. Each of the multiple AVB enabled devices has a static priority based on criticality of an application that each of the multiple AVB enabled devices is performing. Further, each of the multiple audio and/or video streams is dynamically queued, by the AVB enabled network device, based on the static priority of the associated one of the AVB enabled devices. Furthermore, real-time transfer of the multiple audio and/or video streams to a user device is enabled, by the AVB enabled network device, through an Ethernet AVB network upon queuing the multiple audio and/or video streams.

In an implementation, a television tuner is emulated through execution of software on a processing system by a computing device, the emulated television tuner includes functionality to obtain television content over an Internet Protocol (IP) based network. The functionality of the emulated television tuner is exposed to one or more applications that are executed by the computing device such that the application is not aware that the television tuner is emulated through execution of the software.

Abstract: Various embodiments facilitate generation, distribution, and presentation of category-based predefined channel lists. In one embodiment, an electronic program guide (“EPG”) manager is provided for execution on a receiving device, such as a set-top box. The EPG manager receives from a program distributor a predefined channel list that includes multiple channels that carry related programming. The channel list includes an associated category and indicators of the multiple channels, the multiple channels each carrying at least some programming in the associated category. The EPG manager presents to a user at least some of the multiple channels in an electronic program guide. For example, one aspect of the disclosure is a method of identifying commands that can be used to control one or more features of a primary set-top box (e.g., DVR or VOD features) by a supplemental set-top box issuing commands to the primary set-top box via a wireless (e.g., IR) transmitter, and then using optical character recognition to identify the outcomes of those commands as displayed on a primary TV display or secondary display.

The method also includes generating, at the media server, the manifest based on a manifest type and a content segmentation type. The method includes receiving a second request from the computing device, where the second request identifies a requested segment of an adaptive streaming rendition identified by the manifest. Abstract: Features of various implementations are used to enable delivery of matched functionality, content and/or services, as a part of an interactive television suite of technologies. In some implementations, a content delivery process is enabled so that communication between the primary TV receiver and a supplemental set-top box is reduced in order to avoid the need for one or more provider-specific APIs. For example, one aspect of the disclosure is a method of identifying a media program by capturing display data from the media program, and extracting text from the display data in response to determining that the display data includes the text overlay, wherein the extracted text is associated with the media program. In some implementations, a supplemental set-top box is configured to operate a primary TV receiver, without a provider-specific API, in order to determine the channel line-up available to a particular subscriber through the primary TV receiver.

Abstract: A system receives a user request for a media item and identifies candidate media items for suggesting to the user with the media item. The system predicts a user consumption time for each candidate media item and selects a sub-set of the candidate media items that have higher predicted user consumption times. The system provides the requested media item with the sub-set of the candidate media items.
