  • Patent number: 4764767
Abstract: On a circumferential side surface of a single cylindrical member constituting a main body of a rotor section are disposed, in parallel, a first pattern which repeats change in the circumferential direction with a predetermined pitch and a second pattern which has a change of one cycle with respect to one circumference. A detection head section which is provided in proximity to the rotor section changes its relation of correspondence to the respective patterns in accordance with rotational position of the rotor section and produces output signals corresponding to the relation of correspondence. A relatively rough absolute value of a rotational position within one rotation is established by an output signal produced in response to the second pattern and its accuracy is established with a high resolution by an output signal produced in response to the first pattern.

  • Patent number: 4764759
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for self-monitoring a communication circuit incorporating a differential driver for malfunctions with a malfunction detector located remote from the driver. The malfunction detector monitors the state of signals received at the remote location on a pair of lines coupled to the driver. Preferably, the detector includes a pair of back-to-back light emitting diodes, one of which will emit light so long as the received signals are in opposite states, and neither of which will emit light when the received signals are not in opposite states as will occur during a malfunction. The detector further preferably includes a phototransistor responsive to the diodes to provide a malfunction signal when neither diode emits light. Alternatively, the detector may comprise an exclusive-OR logic gate.

  • Patent number: 4760375
Abstract: A multi-wire data transmission cable for transmitting data signals over long distances between data devices. Presently, data devices are usually equipped with voltage interfaces for the connection of peripheral instruments. The length of data transmission lines connecting such devices is limited, due to line resistences. For transmission over long distances, signals must be converted prior to transmission and then must be reconverted after receipt of transmission. The present invention allows the connection of long transmission lines to data devices without the need of external signal converters or additional units normally required. The handle portion of the plug connection at either or both ends of the cable houses a circuit that incorporates a signal converter. No additional external units are required to connect data devices over long distances, since the converter is integrated into the cable.

  • Patent number: 4758836
Abstract: A bi-directional, digital data transmission system is disclosed for transmitting an interrogation signal in a first direction from an interrogation unit to a data gathering transponder unit, and a data return signal in a second direction from the meter or data gathering transponder unit to the interrogation unit. This system comprises a single transformer having a primary winding coupled to the interrogation unit and a secondary winding coupled to the transponder unit. The interrogation unit generates an interrogation signal comprised of a first train of regularly occurring digital clock pulses and transmission interval pulses, each transmission interval pulse defining a transmission interval for the transmission of the data return signal. The transmission interval is set to be of a sufficient length to permit the transformer to desaturate to a level to permit efficient transmission of the data return signal to the interrogation unit.

  • Patent number: 4757300
Abstract: A brake adjustment monitoring device of use on motor vehicles to warn the operators when the brakes are in need of adjustment or repair. A magnet is adjustably secured to the brake shaft connected to an existing brake air chamber assembly. A magnetically sensitive switch which is electrically connected to a wear signaling device is mounted on a rod proximate to the brake shaft at a predetermined distance from the magnet, so as to close the switch by magnetic flux when the shaft of the air chamber moves outward too far after the operator touches the brake pedal of the vehicle. The switch when closed energizes the wear signaling device, such as a buzzer and bulb, to alert the operator that the brakes are in need of adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4749993
Abstract: An arrangement provides for the wireless transmission of a measuring signal from a sensor to an evaluating unit by a pair of first electrical coils that are temporarily inductively coupled with one another. The sensor is supplied with energy by a second pair of electrical coils that are also temporarily inductively coupled with one another. The sensor includes a power supply circuit means for receiving a low-frequency energy signal from the second pair of electrical coils and supplies an energy signal to a transmitting oscillator means. The transmitting oscillator means responds to at least one measured physical quantity and provides a medium-frequency measurement signal to be transmitted over the first pair of electrical coils. When used in a tire pressure control system, this arrangement provides for a reliable transmission of signals over a relatively large transmission path without strict mounting tolerances, while complying with governmental regulations.

  • Patent number: 4749992
Abstract: A remote utility reading and control system includes a central utility use data bank which communicates by communications link with a plurality of relay modules located at power sub-distribution transformers. Each relay module separately addresses and communicates by PLC with a number of site units in its locality. The site units may include on/off controls for buildings, light systems or single pieces of equipment, or may include utility meters or real power meters. The PLC communication utilizes error checking and message verifying to acquire valid status or measurement signals, which are then transmitted to the central data bank. A CRC error code identifies faulty messages. After multiple interrogation, five responses are stored, and a message is confirmed only when three of five reponses are identical. Systems for electricity, water, and gas are described.

  • Patent number: 4748447
Abstract: In a timing signal generating apparatus for generating a timing signal showing that a rotating member has reached a target rotational angle position, the apparatus comprises a first generator for generating scale pulses every time the rotating member rotates N degrees, a second generator for generating a reference pulse used for discriminating a prescribed scale pulse from other scale pulses, and a calculator for performing a calculation in which a target rotational angle position of the rotating member is the dividend and N is the divisor and outputs first and second calculation data representing the quotient A and the remainder B respectively. The apparatus is responsive to the reference pulse, the scale pulses and the result of the first calculator and produces a first timing pulse indicating the timing when the rotating member has assumed a rotational angle position indicated by N.times.

  • Patent number: 4742327
Abstract: A keyless access control and security system especially adapted for use with an automobile and including a piezoelectric permutation touchpad unit which can be affixed, without requiring bodywork, to the outside of the vehicle's door in the key cylinder aperture. The touchpad is illuminated when touched and is therefore usable in the dark. The person seeking access must enter the correct access code combination on the touchpad to open the door and/or the trunk. The touchpad is connected to a remotely located logic circuit which controls access. The circuit provides for a signal of low intensity, indicating that a correction in the code entered into the touchpad should be made and, after a time delay, an alarm of high intensity, if no correction is made. Upon activation of the alarm, the head lights are flashed, the horn is sounded, or both.
