Patent number: 7036197Abstract: A method for preparing stretchable bonded nonwoven fabrics which involves forming a substantially nonbonded nonwoven web of multiple-component continuous filaments or staple fibers which are capable of developing three-dimensional spiral crimp, activating the spiral crimp by heating substantially nonbonded web under free shrinkage conditions during which the nonwoven remains substantially nonbonded, followed by bonding the crimped nonwoven web using an array of discrete mechanical, chemical, or thermal bonds. Nonwoven fabrics prepared according to the method of the current invention have an improved combination of stretch-recovery properties, textile hand and drape compared to multiple-component nonwoven fabrics known in the art.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2002Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Invista North America S.A.R.L.Inventors: Dimitri P. Patent number: 7012033Abstract: Wash-durable fluorochemical-containing textile and/or fiber treatments that simultaneously impart soil resistance (or soil-release) properties and moisture wicking characteristics to target fabric substrates are provided. Such treatments surprisingly impart these two simultaneous effects to target fabrics and/or fibers because fluorochemicals generally provide moisture repellency rather than moisture wicking capabilities. As prior soil release/moisture wicking treatments do not function properly, or, alternatively, compromise hand or other properties of certain target textiles after treatment application, a new, effective, soil release/moisture wicking formulation for such purposes was needed. The inventive treatment is extremely durable on such fabric substrates; after a substantial number of standard launderings and dryings, the treatment does not wear away in any appreciable amount and thus the substrate retains its soil release/moisture wicking properties.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2003Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Assignee: Milliken and CompanyInventors: Heather J. Hayes, Xinggao Fang, Sidney S. Locke, Jr.

Patent number: 6939818Abstract: An improved strippable glass fiber wall covering and process for its formation are provided. Initially, both sides of a glass fiber fabric are coated with a first coating applied from an aqueous dispersion of starch binder and polymeric latex binder. In a preferred embodiment a cross-linking agent and pigment also are present in the first aqueous dispersion. Following the drying of such dispersion to form a first coating on both surfaces, a second dried coating is provided on one side only that serves as a separation layer. The second coating is applied from an aqueous dispersion comprising paraffin and a rheology modifier. When applied to the wall in conventional manner, the separation layer facilitates the removal of the wall covering with ease when its time of usefulness is concluded.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2001Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: Johns Manville International, Inc.Inventors: Krister Draxö, Per Edlund, Torben Hernberg

Patent number: 6936330Abstract: Disclosed are cleaning sheets having substantial macroscopic three-dimensionality. Optionally, the macroscopically three-dimensional cleaning sheets can comprise a contractable material (e.g., a scrim material), which when heated and then cooled contracts so as to provide a macroscopic, three-dimensional structure. Macroscopic three-dimensionality is described in terms of “average peak-to-peak distance” and “surface topography index”, as well in terms of “average height differential”.
