    Abstract: An assembly and method for effecting the condition of a mitral valve annulus of a heart includes a guide wire configured to be fed into the coronary sinus of the heart, and a mitral valve annulus therapy device configured to be slidingly received on the guide wire and advanced into the coronary sinus of the heart on the guide wire. A guide tube may further be employed for guiding the device into the coronary sinus. An introducer which may be employed for pushing the device into or pulling device out of the heart has a mechanism for releasably locking to the device. This enables substitution of the device if needed. Also, the crossover point of the circumflex artery and coronary sinus may be determined and avoided when the device is deployed.

    Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve having an elastomeric stent with an annular base and a plurality of apertures or holes circumferentially spaced around the base for receiving a suture. Flexible polymeric leaflets are molded over the stent. Polymeric material surrounds the apertures, leaving a central opening in each aperture. The base may be a frustro-conical ring. A sewing ring is mounted on the heart valve by suturing the ring through the apertures. Apertures or holes may also be provided by extending an area covered by woven material around all or part of the circumference of the base.

    Abstract: A packaged prosthetic disc nucleus including a prosthetic disc nucleus and a retainer. The prosthetic disc nucleus includes a hydrogel core formed to hydrate from a dehydrated state. Further, the prosthetic disc nucleus is configured to such that following implantation into a nucleus cavity, the hydrogel core hydrates to a final hydrated state. The retainer selectively contains the prosthetic disc nucleus. Further, upon contact with a hydration liquid, the retainer is configured to allow the hydrogel core to hydrate from the dehydrated state while preventing the hydrogel core from hydrating to the final hydrated state. Thus, the prosthetic disc nucleus is constrained by the retainer in a partially hydrated state. In one preferred embodiment, the combination prosthetic disc nucleus/retainer is sealed within an outer enclosure, such as a pouch, that also contains a hydration liquid for hydrating the hydrogel core.

    Abstract: A spinal implant insertion instrument for intervertebral implant surgery formed from a hollow first element of various external diameters, including a channel to accommodate and incorporate a vertebral pedicle, and a second element joined by a hinge to the first element, allowing reduction of the external diameter of the leading edge of the spinal implant insertion element sufficient to allow the passage of the spinal implant insertion instrument into the inteivertebral disc space in a safe fashion, as the first maneuver, to be followed by activation of the second element upon the first, restoring the internal diameter of the spinal implant insertion instrument to a sufficient radius to allow successive passage of cutting, reaming, tapping instruments, and subsequent implantation of a spinal interbody implant device.
