  • Patent number: 6999800
Abstract: A method for power management of a smart phone. The method comprises steps of resetting the smart phone, searching for network service, operating the mobile phone system in standby mode and a PDA system in normal mode when connected to a network, switching the mobile phone system to connection mode when establishing communication with a remote terminal, switching the mobile phone system to sleep mode when the mobile phone system has been idle for a first time period, switching the PDA system to sleep mode when the PDA system has been idle for a second time period, and implementing power detection to switch the mobile phone and PDA system to off mode when the detected power is lower than a first and second threshold respectively.

  • Patent number: 6996392
Abstract: In a network overlay Location Services solution for a GSM communications network, the LMU monitors the uplink and/or downlink control channels and determines which call originations are for E911 emergencies and which call setup (Stand-alone Dedicated Control Channel, or SDCCH), assigned traffic (TCH) and associated (Slow Associated Control Channel, or SACCH) channels are subsequently assigned. Capturing the energy on the call setup channel, SDCCH, and its associated SACCH will typically provide a sub-100 meter level of accuracy. If not, the SMLC can redirect the LMU to the assigned traffic channel, TCH, to capture additional RF energy and improve the location accuracy as required. This approach takes advantage of the fact that Channel Request messages on the RACH include an information element that indicates the purpose for the access request. One of the values of this information element identifies that the Channel Request is for an emergency call. By monitoring the Access Grant channels (downlink), e.g.

  • Patent number: 6980829
Abstract: A portable terminal wirelessly transmits a taken still image to a predetermined base station. An image processor receives the still image and extracts a digital watermark from the image. Further, the image processor transmits additional information according to the digital watermark to the portable terminal. Accordingly, various services using a digital watermark technique can be provided by using a portable terminal which can process a high-definition image to which a digital watermark can be embedded.

  • Patent number: 6968177
Abstract: A wireless device and a receiving computing system communicate over a carrier network. The wireless device submits a request for service to the receiving computing system, which then returns an authentication key. The authentication key is routed using the telephone number stated in the request for service as being associated with the wireless device. However, the authentication key is dispatched over a different data transport mechanism. For example, the request may be submitted using an IP data transport mechanism, while the authentication key is returned using an SMS data transport mechanism. The wireless device then evidences, through appropriate communication, that the wireless device both submitted the request and received the response. Accordingly, the telephone number is verified as being associated with the telephone number.

  • Patent number: 6963730
Abstract: A method of operating a user station in a cellular communications system. The method relates to determining and allocating a plurality of operating resources, including at least one processing resource and at least one cellular communications resource, to a plurality of applications. The method includes assessing application requirements with respect to the processing resources in association with the application's requirements with respect to the cellular communications resources. Also described is corresponding apparatus for operating a user station. Also described is a storage medium storing processor-implementable instructions and a signal carrying processor-implementable instructions.
