  • Patent number: 4604255
Abstract: With the fabrication method and apparatus for the performance of such method, a blank containing hollow spaces extending between its lower side and its upper side is arranged in a mold closed at least at five sides and expanded. The blank is arranged in a mold box, whose area in plan view is larger than the plan view area of the blank. The space between the blank and the mold box wall and possibly hollow spaces which are retained in the blank are filled with a granular filler material, for instance sand, which is trickleable at least during the mold release of the expanded blank. In this way there is ensured for a simple and positive mold release and a protection of the mold box. The molded body can have different constructions and serve the most different purposes. The molded body is preferably constructed as a lightweight structural element for construction purposes.

  • Patent number: 4601870
Abstract: An injection molding process for molding an article having accurate dimensions without sink marks includes the step of feeding high pressure air into the core portion of a shell or solid molded mass formed by the preceding injection molding step. Preferably, the wax material is injected into a mold cavity through a throttled inlet port to flow thereinto as a vigorous turbulent flow. A separate flow line is provided for feeding high pressure air in the preferred embodiment. More preferably, the volume of injected wax is substantially smaller than the volume of mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 4592716
Abstract: A mold for molding elongated workpieces is comprised of three vertically oriented quadrants and a fourth quadrant pivotally mounted relative to the three quadrants between a mold open position and a generally vertically oriented mold closed position. A workpiece is loaded into the mold by positioning end plates on the workpiece and locating the combination on the fourth quadrant by positioning of the end plates on locating pins projecting from a frame member or tilt beam associated with the fourth quadrant. Slide assemblies are then moved into workpiece engaging positions on each end of the workpiece to accurately locate the workpiece relative to the fourth quadrant. The fourth quadrant with the workpiece locked thereon is then moved into a mold closed position for molding.

  • Patent number: 4591476
Abstract: A method of injection moulding or casting comprises forcing a solid bar of the material to be moulded or cast as a plunger into a closed heating chamber having a discharge opening. The heating chamber is maintained at a temperature above the melting or plasticizing temperature of the moulding or casting material so that the leading end of the bar on entering the chamber melts or plasticizes therein and displaces molten or plasticized material from the chamber through the discharge opening. Apparatus comprises a body member formed with a heating chamber and a straight passage leading into the chamber, a plunger formed of the material to be moulded or cast being slidable in the passage. A thermal barrier may divide the passage into two successive portions.

  • Patent number: 4584152
Abstract: Fiber reinforced plastic products are produced in such a way that there is uniform resin dispersion throughout the product. Fabric is woven on a loom, and the reed dents of the loom are varied from the center to the edges of the fabric so that when the strain in the wrap and weft yarns is released once the fabric is removed from the loom, the fabric has uniform porosity. After removal of the fabric from the loom it is impregnated with a resin, such as epoxy, phenolic, or polyester resins, dried, formed into a desired product shape (as by molding), and the resin is cured. The loom reed utilized to produce the fabric has parallel frame portions with parallel reed wires extending between the frame portions with the dent size larger at edge sections of the reed than at intermediate sections, and with the dent size at intermediate sections larger than the dent size at a central section.

  • Patent number: 4576567
Abstract: This invention relates to an injection molding system of the type wherein a heated probe is centrally located in the hot runner passage. The probe has a pair of circumferentially spaced melt channels, each with an upstream portion which branch out from a common central inlet to a downstream portion along the outer surface of the probe. The probe is seated in a well in the cavity plate and a hollow cylindrical insulating sleeve is located between the downstream portion of the probe and the wall of the well. The outer surface of the probe and the inner surface of the insulating sleeve have longitudinally extending grooves which are aligned to form the downstream portions of the melt channels. The insulating sleeve is formed of a thermoplastic material with low thermal conductivity and a high melting temperature.

  • Patent number: 4569812
Abstract: An improved process for making a vent for an "in the ear" hearing aid. A cavity is formed which corresponds to the structure of the ear canal and outer ear of the hearing aid user. A molding liquid, such as acrylic, is poured into the cavity. The liquid is allowed to partially cure and form a thin-walled shell inside the cavity. An elongated mandrel is then placed along the inside of the thin-walled shell, and additional liquid molding material is poured into the thin-walled shell around the elongated mandrel. The wall of the shell accordingly becomes thicker, enveloping the mandrel. The mandrel may then be removed, leaving the vent in the wall of the shell.
