  • Patent number: 7418510
Abstract: In a network system, an internet is connected with a gateway router through a wire link, a plurality of access routers are connected with each other through wireless links, and one access router is connected with the gateway router through a wireless link. Each wireless link connects a Bluetooth device of one access router and a Bluetooth device of another access router or a Bluetooth device of the gateway router. When a wireless terminal unit is connected with one access router through one wireless link while issuing a network connect request, the gateway router functions as a gateway to the wire link, and an IP route from the wireless link connected with the wireless terminal unit to the wire link is set.

  • Patent number: 7403982
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide network devices and a network device control method which enable control network devices connected to an IP network, AV devices connected over 1394IF through gateway devices from the IP network, and home devices connected to ECHONET to be controlled without distinction among them. To achieve this object, a network device to serve as a controller comprises a controller application that detects a service of a target network device, using a message complying with an information exchange protocol common to the network, collects information such as an access method for the service, a function name, and parameters, and controls the network device upon request, and an information exchange protocol processing part that exchanges messages according to a protocol common to the network devices.

  • Patent number: 7398306
Abstract: In a printer connected to a network, email appended with link information is prepared for enabling an administrator to access information about the printer network terminal. The email is transmitted to the administrator terminal at a predetermined timing. Then, the administrator terminal accesses the information based on the link information appended to the email. As such, when a problem occurs in the printer, operations for resolving the problem can be quickly undertaken by the administrator.

  • Patent number: 7395355
Abstract: A content delivery network (CDN) edge server is provisioned to provide last mile acceleration of content to requesting end users. The CDN edge server fetches, compresses and caches content obtained from a content provider origin server, and serves that content in compressed form in response to receipt of an end user request for that content. It also provides “on-the-fly” compression of otherwise uncompressed content as such content is retrieved from cache and is delivered in response to receipt of an end user request for such content. A preferred compression routine is gzip, as most end user browsers support the capability to decompress files that are received in this format. The compression functionality preferably is enabled on the edge server using customer-specific metadata tags.

  • Patent number: 7376733
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, system, computer program product, or apparatus that schedules and executes events within a network in real-time. An event processor contacts one or more event schedulers, and it receives back from them event schedule updates. It then calculates the time when each event is to occur from information contained in the received scheduling information for each event. Next, it places event scheduling information contained in the received scheduling information for each event, plus the calculated occurrence time of the corresponding event, into an event queue. Finally, at the time when each event is to occur, as indicated by examination of the calculated times in the event queue, the event processor sends out event firing messages to event processors that are named in the received scheduling information for each event.

  • Patent number: 7373391
Abstract: The present invention makes it possible to distribute digital content managed under copyright to a large number of users through a communications network while ensuring copyright protection. The web server 12 distributes images requested by the user through the Internet to the user PC 6. The image data distributed from the web server 12 is encrypted and can only be decrypted by the special image editor 22 on the user PC 6. Control data indicating the usage restrictions according to copyright are included in the image data distributed from the web server 12. The image editor 22 controls the edit operations and print specifications that can be used with the images downloaded from the web server 12 according to that control data. The image editor 22 carries out image printing only in the case where a settlement process for image fees is completed.

  • Patent number: 7343419
Abstract: A data stream may be processed using a computer system by receiving the data stream using a browser application, detecting a content type of data in the data stream, temporarily overriding a default rendering process otherwise associated with the content type detected for the data in the data stream by associating a particular rendering process with the data stream based on the type of data in the data stream, and routing the data stream to the particular rendering process. The default rendering process may be identified in a registry of the computer system. It may be temporarily overridden by discriminating among internal and external instances of the browser application used to receive the data stream, and temporarily overriding the default rendering process only if the browser application is an internal instance.

  • Patent number: 7299274
Abstract: A method and system for management of a plurality of resources in a network environment. The system uses web technology, preferably XML-technology, to receive and store information related to back-end resources and to provide a framework by which client computer systems can manage the plurality of back-end resources in a uniform manner. Using these communications, the management system uniformly associates information from the various resources via various multi-step, scenario-based functions, such as, for example, searches, monitoring, scripting, software deployment, etc. That is, the management system is able to provide easier, higher-level operation options to the administrator based on the associated information related to the various resources.

  • Patent number: 7246177
Abstract: Distributed compression of a data file can comprise a master server module for breaking the data file into data blocks and for transmitting the data blocks to worker server modules. A first worker server module can compress a first data block using a first compression algorithm, resulting in a first compressed data block. A second worker server module can compress the second data block using a second compression algorithm, resulting in a second compressed data block. The first and second compression algorithms can comprise the same algorithm or different algorithms. An archive module can save the first and second compressed data blocks in an archive file for storage or for transmission over a communication network. The worker server modules also can compress the respective data blocks using multiple compression algorithms and can choose the highest compressed result.

  • Patent number: 7237019
Abstract: In a message notification apparatus, message-type information defining one or more types of messages of which an operator is to be notified, and notification-manner information defining at least one manner in which the operator is to be notified of reception of each of the one or more types of messages are defined and stored. The message notification apparatus receives user-situation information indicating a situation of the operator. When the message notification apparatus receives a message, the message is compared with the one or more types of messages, and at least one notification manner is determined based on the notification-manner information and the user-situation information when the message is one of the one or more types of messages. Then, the message notification apparatus notifies the operator of reception of the message in the at least one notification manner.

  • Patent number: 7194541
Abstract: A service selection gateway (SSG) which enables a service provider to conveniently provide access of the same services to a group of hosts. The service provider may specify the specific services each group of hosts is permitted to access, and the SSG forwards packets from the hosts only to the corresponding specified services. In an embodiment implemented substantially in the form of software, the access information (specifying the server addresses which can be accessed from each group of hosts) is stored in the form of data structures in which the same copy of access information is shared by many (all) hosts in the corresponding group.

  • Patent number: 7194517
Abstract: A system and method for passing messages between domains with low overhead in a multi-node computer system. A CPU node in a sending domain issues a request to a memory node in a receiving domain using memory-mapped input/output window. This causes the message to be transmitted to a coherent space of the receiving domain. All messages are cache-line in size. A small portion of each cache line, cyclic counter field, is overwritten before the cache line is written in the coherent address space of the receiving domain. A massaging driver polls the cyclic count field of the cache line in the processor cache to determine when the next message is written in the coherent address space of the receiving domain. This allows the CPU to detect when the last received message is written into the coherent address space of the receiving domain without generating transactions on CPU interface.

  • Patent number: 7191248
Abstract: A communication stack enables computers implementing it to send, receive, or route network communications. The communication stack includes a message layer, a communication layer, a security layer, and a transport protocol layer, with plug-in transport protocol modules and plug-in security protocol modules. Each of the origin computer, target computer, and routing computers involved in delivering a message implements the communication stack. An application on the origin computer calls the message layer of the computer to send messages to a target computer and identifies routing computers on the route for delivering the message to the target computer. The message layer calls the communication layer to establish a connection to the target computer. The communication layer uses the transport protocol layer to establish an initial connection with the target computer, and uses the security layer to negotiate security parameters and to handle secured communications between the origin and target computers.
