    Abstract: A media spacing system for a fiber optic CRT printer. The system has a film coating over the fiber optic portion of the CRT, outside the phosphor display area, which keeps the media a fixed distance from the display area to provide for a uniform display of data on the media. The film may be applied in multiple layers, with each successive layer having a larger size, to create a rounded edge for the coating. A pressure plate is placed on the opposite side of the media from the film coating to keep the media firmly against the film coating. A compliant element, such as foam rubber, attaches the pressure plate to a fixed bracket to allow the pressure plate to adjust for bow and twist of the CRT, while maintaining pressure against the media.

    Abstract: In order to optimize print quality, it is desirable to minimize the distance between a inkjet printhead and the media that is being printed on. Color inkjet printers commonly employ a plurality of print cartridges, usually either two or four, mounted in the printer carriage to produce a full spectrum of colors. In a multiple printhead printer, it is advantageous if the black print cartridge is closer to the print media when printing text than is the color cartridge when printing color graphics. Accordingly, a pen pen carriage with adjustable printhead-to-media spacing is disclosed. A controller tells the printer to decrease the printhead-to-media spacing when text printing is being performed and to increase the printhead-to-media spacing to the appropriate printhead-to-media distance when printing color graphics or large black area fills based on the density of ink being deposited.

    Abstract: An improved thermal ink jet printhead is formed by the alignment and bonding of an anisotropically etched silicon wafer channel plate, containing a plurality of channel grooves, to a silicon wafer heater plate, containing a plurality of heating and addressing elements which are covered by a patterned thick film layer. The printhead enables better bonding of the two plates by compensating for raised lips or edges formed on the outside edge of opposing last pits in an array of pits located in the thick film layer that are created while photofabricating the pits in the insulating layer. The fabrication sequence compensates for the raised edges by including a non-functional straddling channel that nullifies the standoff created by the raised edge and a corresponding additional non-functional pit that positions the raised edge away from the functional channels and nozzles.

    Abstract: A thermal ink jet printhead has two or more groups of selectively activatable heating elements and associated nozzles with the heating elements and nozzles within each group having the same geometric parameters, but the geometric parameters of the heating elements and nozzles between groups being different, so that the ejection of droplets from the nozzles of different groups have different ink volumes. When continuous tone and grey scale printing is desired various combinations of nozzles from different groups are used to compose a halftone cell, and when high resolution text printing is desired, either the nozzles from one group or the nozzles from both groups in fixed combinations are used to eject ink droplets onto a recording medium.

    Abstract: A thermal ink jet printer for printing MICR images by liquid ink droplets. The ink contains a magnetic pigment, magnetic particles, or a combination of both. An external magnetic field in the printing zone orients the magnetic pigment in a preferred direction while the printed ink droplet is still wet, so that the magnetic pigment is mobile in a liquid medium. The printed droplet is allowed to dry under the influence of the magnetic field, thereby permanently preserving the specific orientation. As a result, the remanence of the magnetic material in the images are increased and less magnetic pigment is needed for the necessary signal for MICR. This reduction in magnetic material enables the printing by a thermal ink jet printer, because nozzle clogging is avoidable.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a process for cleaning a harmful gas which comprises bringing a harmful gaseous halogenide such as chlorine, hydrogen chloride, dichlorosilane, silicon tetrachloride, phosphorus trichloride, chlorine trifluoride, boron trichloride, boron trifluoride, tungsten hexafluoride, silicon tetrafluoride, fluorine, hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen bromide into contact with a cleaning agent comprising zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and an alkali compound to remove the above halogenide. The above process is extremely effective for promptly and efficiently removing the above gaseous halogenide that is contained in the gas discharged from semiconductor manufacturing process or leaked suddenly from a gas bomb in an emergency.

By pre-mixing the hydrogen peroxide feed, the occasional decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and the resulting foaming of the generator liquor is eliminated.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for removing calcium ions and silicon compounds from various liquors produced or obtained in an alkali metal chlorate process, thereby reducing the operating cost and improving the possibility to close the process further. The calcium ions and silicon compounds are removed by addition of carbonate ions for precipitating calcium carbonate and by addition of an iron-containing compound for forming and precipitating a complex of iron ions and a silicon compound, whereupon the precipitates are co-separated from the liquor. The removal of calcium and silicate ions is substantially facilitated by the simultaneous separation of the precipitates. Subsequently, the excess of carbonate ions can be reduced by acidifying the electrolyte for releasing carbon dioxide.

The sheet metal substrate (36) is folded upon itself so that the plastic laminate (40) bears in pressing relation against the unlaminated portion of the substrate (36) to create a fold (44) sealed against lateral moisture penetration. The unlaminated portion of the substrate (36) may be chrome plated (50). The extrusion die (54) includes an adjustable die member (64) and an adjustable wear plate (78). Alternatively, the extrusion die (54) may include an adjustable extrusion orifice (62) for varying the thickness of the plastic extruded onto the sheet metal substrate (36). Two sheet metal substrates (36') are moved through the extrusion die (54') simultaneously and in back-to-back relation to neutralize reaction forces from the respective emissions of pressurized plastic.

    Abstract: A method is provided for recovering an anhydrous hydrogen fluoride product from uranium hexafluoride gas by initially reacting the uranium hexafluoride in a primary reactor with steam to produce a uranyl fluoride intermediate and a gaseous mixture of hydrogen fluoride and water. The uranyl fluoride intermediate is fed to a secondary reactor and reacted with water to produce a triuranium octoxide product for disposal, and a gaseous mixture of water, hydrogen fluoride and oxygen. The two mixtures from the primary and secondary reactors are combined and subsequently separated in a distillation column to obtain an anhydrous hydrogen fluoride product stream and an aqueous azeotropic recycle stream containing water and hydrogen fluoride which is vaporized and returned to the primary reactor as the steam feed.

    Abstract: An ink jet printer having cap station articulation with a printhead cartridge located on a fast scan carriage. The fast scan carriage includes a sliding connector plate which allows easy vertical insertion and electrical interconnect of the printhead cartridge without interference of the capping station. When the latch is closed, the latch fixedly attaches the sliding connector plate on the fast scan carriage. When the latch is opened, the sliding connector plate is movable to a cartridge install position spaced a distance along the scan carriage and displaced from a cap station. In this position, the cartridge is free to be dropped vertically onto the sliding connector plate, using features provided by a heat sink and a plastic cartridge wall as rough locators.
