Abstract: A compound contains a ligand group and at least one group of the general formula --XR.sub.n where X is a linking group which contains at least one hetero-atom, R is a saturated hydrocarbyl group containing at least six carbon atoms or is an unsaturated hydrocarbyl group containing at least three carbon atoms. The ligand group can be a polyhydroxyhydrocarbyl, a triazole, an imidazole, an indazole, a thiazole, an oxazole, a carbamate, an xanthate or a phthalazine. The compounds can be used to improve bonding between a metal and a coating material in contact with the metal surface. The metal may be a tire cord and the coating material rubber or a rubber composition.
Abstract: Process for the mononitration of a nitratable organic compound, such as benzene, with a mixed acid in which one of the reactants is delivered into a body of the other reactant in the form of ultra-fine droplets through an atomizing nozzle or similar orifice. The process is economic to construct and operate, is safe and simple to control and leads to a low cost, substantially pure product.
Abstract: N-secondary-alkyldiorganoaminopyridinium salts are disclosed which are useful as phase transfer catalysts for facilitating preparation of fluoroaromatic compounds (such as fluoronitrobenzene compounds) from the corresponding chloroaromatic compounds (such as chloronitrobenzene compounds).
Abstract: A novel alkanolamine gas treating composition and method for purifying a gas stream containing acid gas impurities. The composition consists essentially of an alkanolamine solvent in an aqueous solution with antimony wherein said alkanolamine solvent includes at least about 1% by weight of methydiethanolamine (MDEA) and at least about 5% monoethanolamine (MEA) by weight of the total solution, and with said antimony present in a concentration of at least about 100 ppm. The combination of antimony and MDEA inhibits corrosion and retards solvent degradation.

Abstract: A lead-oxide paste mix for use as an active material superimposed upon the plates of a lead-acid rechargeable battery. Battery grades of oxides of lead are mixed with a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide, either alone or with additives and/or expanders. The resultant paste offers such advantages as reduced curing and drying times and/or the elimination of the need for curing and drying, lower dry active material weights and improved cohesion when compared to conventional pastes manufactured from leady oxides, sulfuric acid, and water.

Abstract: Stabilizers for synthetic polymer compositions are provided which are poly(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidyl amino)-1,3,5-triazines having the formula: ##STR1## in which: R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl and alkoxy having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; acyl having from about one to about twelve carbon atoms; and oxyl;X and Y are each selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## wherein: R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, hydroxyalkyl and alkylenealkoxy having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; cycloalkyl having from three to about twelve carbon atoms; and aryl having from six to about eighteen carbon atoms;R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkyl having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; cycloalkyl having from three to about twelve carbon atoms; and aryl having from six to about eighteen carbon atoms; and R.sub.2 and R.sub.
Abstract: A process for producing urea fluorosilicate, [(NH.sub.2).sub.2 CO].sub.4 .multidot.H.sub.2 SiF.sub.6, a composition eminently suitable for use as a fungicide in the prevention and control of wheat stem rust. The method involves mixing urea and fluorosilicic acid derived from by-product fluorine in a mole ratio of urea:fluorosilicate acid in the range from about 3.5:1 to about 4.5:1 and thereafter dewatering the resulting solution to produce a concentrated solution of urea fluorosilicate. Solid urea fluorosilicate is subsequently obtained by evaporation of the remaining water which is conveniently effected by introducing the resulting solution or melt to concentrator means, or alternatively into a heated, moving bed of preformed granular urea fluorosilicate.
