Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for allocating parking spaces for vehicles in a parking area. In one embodiment, the invention provides a system comprising a sensor system for generating output representing measurements of vehicles in the parking area, a marking system for identifying parking spaces in the parking area, and a controller for calculating parking spaces for vehicles. The controller obtains defined measurements for the vehicles in the parking area, and calculates for each of the vehicles, a respective one parking space in the parking area. Embodiments of the invention dynamically allocate parking spaces based on: (1) Determining the minimum space that should be enough for the size of the car that is being currently identified for parking; and (2) Maximizing utilization of space by preventing improper fragmentation, where because of allocating fixed size spaces to all cars, big/small/medium, fragments of space would be wasted.

  • Patent number: 9589440
Abstract: A lamp tube and a lamp fixture with sensing capability are disclosed. The lamp tube with sensing capability includes a lamp tube body, and the lamp tube body includes a power converting unit, an LED strip and a sensing unit. The power converting unit is for receiving AC power and outputting DC power for driving the LED strip and the sensing unit. The sensing unit will timely output a fire alarm signal to notify the firemen and the people nearby when a fire occurs. The shape of the lamp tube with sensing capability is the same as a normal lamp tube, so both of them can be installed in the same lamp fixture. One normal lamp tube is replaced by the lamp tube with sensing capability to include a fire sensing function. The safety is enhanced and the installation is convenient.

  • Patent number: 9589439
Abstract: A multi sensor detection and disabling lock system includes detector cases for holding interchangeable detectors that sample for chemical, biological and radiological compounds, agents and elements, with each detector case disposed in or upon the monitored product. The detector case transmits detection information to a monitoring computer terminal and transmits a signal to a lock disabler engaged to the product to lock or disable the product's lock thereby preventing untrained, unauthorized and unequipped individual's from gaining access and entry to the product, and also preventing further contamination of the area. The detection system can be interconnected to surveillance towers scanning detector cases disposed at seaport docks, freight depots and rail terminals for monitoring containers being prepared for shipment or sitting on docks for long periods of time.

  • Patent number: 9582981
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a passive radio frequency identification (RFID) moisture sensor. This moisture sensor includes one or more antenna structures having a tail. The tail is operable to transport a disturbance such as, but not limited to fluid or moisture from a monitored location wherein the antenna has an impedance and varies with proximity to the disturbance. An integrated circuit couples to the antenna structure. This IC includes a power harvesting module operable to energize the integrated circuit, an impedance-matching engine coupled to the antenna, a memory module, and a wireless communication module. The impedance-matching engine may vary a reactive component to reduce a mismatch between the antenna impedance and the IC and produce an impedance value (sensor code) representative of the reactive component impedance.

  • Patent number: 9573523
Abstract: Embodiments provided herein describe a feedback system that alters the distribution of a sound in a vehicle from a default configuration indicating to the driver that his action is dangerous or inefficient. The feedback system monitors one or more forces or accelerations such as speeding up, slowing down, changing the vehicle's direction, etc. Moreover, the feedback system may have one or more thresholds associated with these accelerations. If the measured acceleration satisfies the threshold, the feedback system alters the distribution of sound to inform the driver that his driving decisions may be dangerous or inefficient (e.g., causing excessive wear and tear on the vehicle). Furthermore, the change in the sound distribution may mimic the effect of the force or acceleration on the driver or vehicle to provide a more subtle or intuitive sonification relative to outputting a distinct audio alert.

  • Patent number: 9568923
Abstract: Aspects include a method, system, and computer program product for determining a time to a threshold temperature of an electronic device in a data center. A method includes measuring parameters for an electronic device and the data center. A rate of change of temperature is determined for the device based on the parameters. The rate of change is compared to a rate of change threshold. It is determined that a cooling system is operating below a threshold when the rate of change is above the threshold. A first time is determined, where the first time is based the rate of change of temperature and a machine learning model. The first time and second time are compared, where the second time is a time to restore the cooling system to above the threshold. A signal is transmitted when the first time is less than the second time.
