Abstract: The invention relates to use of one or more bacteriophages in vivo in a human or animal in order to induce sensitivity to chemical antibiotics in bacterial cells, where such susceptibility is heritable, independent of continuing bacteriophage metabolism within those cells, and does not relate to the destruction of a biofilm to induce such sensitivity.
Abstract: Described herein are antibodies, and antigen-binding fragments thereof, that are specific for folate receptor alpha, related polynucleotides, expression vectors, and cells that express the described antibodies. Also provided are methods of using the described antibodies, and antigen-binding fragments thereof, and related kits. Provided herein are also methods for diagnosing cancers, such as breast cancer, thyroid cancer, colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, ovarian cancer, or lung cancer, using the described antibodies, and antigen-binding fragments thereof. The methods involve determining the amount of folate receptor alpha in a sample derived from a subject and comparing this level with the level of folate receptor alpha in a control sample or reference sample.
Abstract: Methods for treating a coronary risk factor (such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and obesity) and/or a respiratory disorder (such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchitis) and/or arthritis by local administration of a botulinum neurotoxin to at least one of a head, neck or shoulder location (for example, by subdermal, subcutaneous or intramuscular administration of the botulinum neurotoxin) of a patient with a coronary risk factor, respiratory disorder or arthritis.
Abstract: The present invention intends to provide an assay system using split luciferase that has a remarkably high detection sensitivity. In an embodiment, binding of mutually binding first and second proteins is detected by preparing a first fusion protein comprising the first protein fused with a peptide having the amino acid sequence of amino acid SEQ ID NO: 1 and a second fusion protein comprising the second protein fused with a peptide having an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of amino acid SEQ ID NOS: 2 to 6, and allowing the first fusion protein to bind with the second fusion protein to form a complex, and detecting luminescence emitted from the complex.

Abstract: Lactobacillus sp. strain with antimutagenic activity and, more particularly, Lactobacillus sp. JNU2116 having a specific amino acid sequence at an N-terminal. Such strain has various advantages in that it has antimutagenic activity to inhibit mutation of cells thus preventing cancer caused by modification of genes, may be added to general fermented dairy products, food additives and/or health foods so as to be simply applied to the human body by the intake of food and, in addition, may be safely used without side effects from intake thereof. The strain was deposited with Accession No. KCCM11055P to Korea Culture Center of Microorganisms (KCCM) (having the address of 361-221, Yurim B/D. Hongje-1-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, 120-091, Republic of Korea) on Dec. 2, 2009.

Abstract: The present invention provides anti-Plasmodium immunogenic compositions comprising EVP1 (PFD0495c) or an antigenic portion thereof, as well as methods of immunizing against malaria employing these compositions. In other embodiments, the present invention provides methods of identifying Plasmodium infection employing agents that bind to EVP1 or an antibody generated thereto.
Abstract: This invention provides compositions and methods for detection of hematophagous ectoparasitic activity in an enclosure or area. The compositions comprise a reagent or reagents which are reactive against antigens or markers as they appear in the excrement or other ectoparasitic materials. Such markers or antigens may be produced by the ectoparasite itself or may have been introduced into the ectoparasite because of its blood feeding activity. The method of the present invention comprises collecting from the enclosure or area, a sample comprising environmental dust or materials and subjecting the sample to tests for detecting the presence of hematophagous ectoparasitic markers, host markers or both.
Abstract: The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions suitable for the treatment of chronic diseases associated with the presence of abnormal or an abnormal distribution of microflora in the gastrointestinal tract of a mammalian host, which compositions comprise viable non-pathogenic or attenuated pathogenic Clostridia. The compositions further comprise one or more additional viable non-pathogenic or attenuated pathogenic microorganisms selected from the group consisting of Bacteroides, Eubacteria, Fusobacteria, Propionibacteria, Lactobacilli, anaerobic cocci, Ruminococcus, E.Coli, Gemmiger, Desullomonas, Peptostreptococcus, and fungi. The present invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions suitable for the treatment of the same chronic diseases comprising viable non-pathogenic or attenuated pathogenic Escherichia coli, at least one strain of viable non-pathogenic or attenuated pathoenic Bacteroides and at least one strain of viable non-pathogenic or attenuated pathogenic microorganism.
Abstract: The invention provides a method of identifying an antigen from a pathogen or a disease antigen comprising the use of an adenoviral vector array comprising two or more different adenoviral vectors, wherein each adenoviral vector comprises a nucleic acid sequence encoding a different antigen of a pathogen. The adenoviral vectors are administered to antigen presenting cells (APCs) in vitro or to an animal in vivo. The immunogenicity of the antigen is measured by screening for an immune response from effector T lymphocytes in vitro and by screening for the absence of pathogen-induced disease onset in vivo.

Abstract: The method disclosed herein, relates generally to introducing molecules such as biomolecules (e.g., nucleic acids) into a filamentous fungus. More specifically, the methods disclosed herein relate to introducing one or more nucleic acids into a filamentous fungus.
Abstract: A composition and dosage regime including a vaccine and levamisole for the treatment of clostridial diseases and helminthiasis. New methods of administration relating to particular dosage regimes of such a composition are also claimed.
Abstract: A multivalent anthelmintic vaccine targets both hookworm and schistosomiasis. The vaccine includes, at a minimum, a recombinant third-stage larval hookworm antigen, a recombinant adult stage hookworm antigen, and a recombinant schistosome antigen. Preferably, the hookworm antigens are Necator americanus antigens, although antigens from other hookworm species (e.g. Ancylostoma duodenale) may also be employed. The schistosome antigen is preferably a Schistosoma mansoni or a Schistosoma haematobium antigen although antigens from other schistosome species (e.g. Schistosoma japonicum) may also be employed. In some cases full or partial sequences of schistosome antigens may be fused with full or partial sequences of hookworm {Necator americanus) to produce recombinant chimeric antigens.
