Patent number: 5961703Abstract: An aqueous ink having an extended cap-off time and a process for manufacturing the ink, wherein the aqueous ink is composed of water as the predominant or exclusive solvent, hydrocolloid/hydrocolloids or polysaccharide/polysaccharides as binding agents or film-forming agents, moist-keeping agents, coloring agents, emulsifying agents and possibly additional additives, wherein the ink further includes gum arabic and bees wax as film-forming agents. The ink is particularly an ink for writing, drawing, painting, printing or marking on normal paper or other absorbent writing carriers. The ink is particularly intended for use in fountain pens, ballpoint pens or stencil writers, in so-called felt-tip pens or pencils, in ink jet systems and/or in other capillary duct writing devices or systems.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1998Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: J.S. Patent number: 5948149Abstract: The present invention provides a water-based ink composition in which the wettability, surface tension, antibacterial properties, and other properties are controlled based on a simple formulation. The water-based ink composition of the present invention contains a semi-polar boron compound. Semi-polar boron compounds represented by diglycerin borate exhibit superior wettability in an ordinary environment, and addition of such a compound achieves a water-based ink composition well-balanced in surface tension, wettability, and drying property even if the composition is prepared according to a simple formulation. The optimum quantitative range for addition of the semi-polar boron compound depends on whether the coloring material contained in the watercolor ink composition is a dyestuff or a pigment. When the coloring material is a dyestuff, the quantitative range is preferably 0.5 to 3.0% by weight relative to the entire quantity of the water-based ink composition.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1997Date of Patent: September 7, 1999Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Kengo Ito, Hiroyuki Nakashinden

Patent number: 5944881Abstract: A security ink is provided containing a colored dye, a colored pigment, and a fluorescent pigment. The ink may be printed on a number of security documents such as checks and may be passed through printing devices such as laser printers without the problem of damage to the ink the printed image, or the printer. The fluorescent pigment in the ink will fluoresce when the document is exposed to ultraviolet light and may be used to provide an authentication feature.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1997Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: The Standard Register CompanyInventors: Rajendra Mehta, Gary Walter Doll, Richard Lynn Shields

Patent number: 5938829Abstract: An inventive ink comprises a water-soluble dye or a pigment as a coloring agent, 5 to 15% by weight of polyvalent alcohol monoalkyl ether selected from the group consisting of tetraethylene glycol monoalkyl ethers and pentaethylene glycol monoalkyl ethers, 5 to 50% by weight of polyvalent alcohol, and pure water. When recording is performed in accordance with the ink-jet recording system by using the inventive ink, an excellent result is obtained from any viewpoint concerning, for example, the recording characteristic, the fixation to an objective recording material, the quick drying characteristic, the printing quality characteristic, and the low odor characteristic. The inventive ink is useful as an ink to be used for ink-jet recording apparatuses based on various recording systems, making it possible to obtain an excellent recording result.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1997Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Shunichi Higashiyama, Masaya Fujioka, Takeo Kitahara, Hideto Yamazaki, Masahito Kato
