SMAs are used for both the active actuation members (e.g., wires) and passive connecting members (e.g., hinges). The retention and release (R&R) mechanism includes the SMA actuator, a static and detachable plate, a pin puller, and retaining latches/hooks. Once released, the deployment and positioning mechanism consists of SMA preloaded hinges and latches.
