  • Patent number: 8978154
Abstract: A digital content protection apparatus and method for digital rights management (DRM) are provided in which a content file including a plurality of content parts is imported such that a header is included which stores location information required for decoding each of the content parts. Therefore, the number of content parts constituting the content file can be recognized, and a license that is required for the use of each of the content parts can be acquired by analyzing header information without necessitating the parsing of the transport packets of the content file. Accordingly, preparation time for using content can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8971652
Abstract: An image coding method performs intra prediction with a higher coding efficiency by coding image data on a block-by-block basis. The method generates a predicted block by predicting a current block; computes a difference between the current block and the predicted block; codes the difference computed in the computing; decodes the difference coded in the coding; and adds the difference decoded in the decoding to the predicted block to generate a decoded block. The generating of the predicted block includes detecting an edge in a previously decoded block corresponding to a block adjacent to the current block; and extrapolating or interpolating previously decoded image data corresponding to a pixel included in the block adjacent to the current block, along a direction of the edge detected in the detecting to generate the predicted block.

  • Patent number: 8965061
Abstract: In a person retrieval apparatus, a plurality of extraction processing sections each extract personal biometric information from images taken by a plurality of cameras. A quality determination section determines a quality of each piece of biometric information extracted by the extraction processing sections. A reliability level setting section sets a reliability level to each piece of biometric information on the basis of the quality determined by the quality determination section. The biometric information extracted by the extraction processing sections and the reliability level set by the reliability level setting section are stored in a memory. In this state, in the person retrieval apparatus, the face retrieval section performs person retrieval processing on each piece of biometric information stored in the memory in descending order of the reliability level corresponding to each piece of biometric information.

  • Patent number: 8958611
Abstract: A system and method for surgical visualization transform a cut procedure into a visual representation, e.g., during resection via a cutting tool. The system and method obtain shape data, e.g., bone shape data for the bone to be resected, and generate a CSG object model such as a bone model. Another CSG model is also generated, based, for example, on the cutting tool shape. During resection, tool position data is collected and multiple CSG subtraction models are generated based on the cutting tool model and the position data. The CSG bone model and subtraction models are used to create an image space visual representation by merging the CSG subtraction models into a single merged CSG subtraction model and subtracting the single merged CSG subtraction model from the CSG bone model.

  • Patent number: 8953854
Abstract: The present invention discloses a contactless 3D biometric feature identification system and the method thereof. The system comprises of a fixed-viewpoint image capturing means, a lighting module capable of producing different illuminations on the object of interest and a microprocessor configured to execute a biometric identification algorithm. The algorithm starts with capturing a plurality of images with different illuminations. The captured images are then utilized to reconstruct a three dimensional surface model. Different features, for instance 2D and 3D coordinates and orientations of the biometric feature, surface curvature of the object and the local surface orientation of the object, are extracted from the captured images and the reconstructed 3D surface model. Different matching scores are also developed based on the aforesaid features to establish the identity of the biometric features.

  • Patent number: 8949600
Abstract: Prior to transmission, a message is divided into multiple transmission units. A sub-message authentication code is obtained for each of the transmission units. A composed message authentication code is obtained for the whole message based on the sub-message authentication codes of the multiple transmission units. The multiple transmission units and the composed message authentication code are then transmitted. A receiver of the message receives a plurality of transmission units corresponding to the message. A local sub-message authentication code is calculated by the receiver for each transmission unit. A local composed message authentication code is calculated by the receiver based on the local sub-message authentication codes for the plurality of transmission units. The local composed message authentication code is compared to a received composed message authentication code to determine the integrity and/or authenticity of the received message.

  • Patent number: 8948395
Abstract: A novel key management approach is provided for securing communication handoffs between and access terminal and two access points. This approach provides for securely handing off communications between an access terminal and access point without risking exposure a master key for the access terminal. Temporary master keys are derived for low latency handoffs and secure authentication between a new access point and the access terminal. In one aspect, a distributive key management scheme is provided in which a current access point generates a new security key (based on its own security key) that is used by the next access point with which an access terminal communicates. In another aspect, a centralized key management scheme is provided in which a central authenticator maintains, generates, and distributes new security keys (based on a master security key associated with the access terminal) to access points.

  • Patent number: 8942431
Abstract: Disclosed are computer-implemented methods and systems for authentication of users through capturing and analyzing biometrics data such as keystroke dynamics. Once the keystroke dynamics is acquired, a corresponding feature vector related is calculated by calculating multiple sub-feature values using various algorithms such as normalization, relations between keystroke dynamics events, relations of sums of various sub-feature values, and so forth. The feature vector is then selectively compared to a group of reference feature vectors associated with the user. If it is determined that the newly obtained feature vector is similar to the selected group reference feature vectors, the user is authenticated. The process of determining similarity involves decomposition of feature vectors and reference feature vectors onto multiple sub-vectors and calculation similarity therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8942502
Abstract: Parallelization of decoding of a data stream encoded with a variable length code includes determining one or more markers, each of which indicates a position within the encoded data stream. The determined markers are included into the encoded data stream together with the encoded data. At the decoder side, the markers are parsed from the encoded data stream and based on the extracted markers. The encoded data is separated into partitions, which are decoded separately and in parallel.
