  • Patent number: 6785463
Abstract: A multimedia optical disc for recording main video data which is composed of sets of frame data that is processed beforehand to allow compatibility with displays of a plurality of aspect ratios. The disc has a stream area storing streams made up of the main video data and a plurality of sets of sub-picture data, with each set of sub-picture data including a set of tel-op data and a set of coordinate information showing a display position of the set of tel-op data. The disc also includes a control area storing a plurality of pairings of a set of display mode information and a set of sub-picture indicating information. Each set of display mode information shows a species of display method according to which the frame data is to be processed for a case when the frame data decoded from the main video data is displayed at one of the plurality of aspect ratios.

  • Patent number: 6782189
Abstract: Upon playback of stream data which is recorded while being appended with time stamp information in units of packets, time management is made using the time stamp information. A video playback time viewed from the user, which may be indicated by I-, B-, and P-picture display times, is different from the time of the time stamp information. For this reason, when time management for the stream data recorded on an information storage medium is made using only the time stamp information, display time control (video playback time control) for the user cannot be accurately done. In this invention, a time relationship table indicating the relationship between the time stamp information recorded in stream data at each I-picture start time position and display time information (PTS or field information) for the user is provided to a portion of management information.

  • Patent number: 6775464
Abstract: A playback device 10 generates a PN code with a start timing based on a video sync signal, and generates a PN inverse code which has a reverse polarity to that of the PN code with a timing based on the video sync signal. An anti-duplication control signal is spectrally spread using this PN code, superimposed on the video signal and supplied to a recording device. A PN inverse code which is the same as the PN inverse code used in the playback device is also generated in the recording device based on the video sync signal, and reverse spectral spread is performed using this PN inverse code.

  • Patent number: 6775461
Abstract: A data management method for recorded programs stored on a digital recording device. A portion of a first recorded program is rendered to an audio/video device. A user command is received for releasing memory associated with a rendered portion of the first recorded program. In response to the user command, the memory associated with the rendered portion is released, wherein the memory is available to store data associated with a second recorded program and a remaining portion of the first recorded program is available for presentation to the audio/video device. The present invention provides a method for maximizing the storage space of a digital recording device, such as a personal video recorder (PVR) or a digital video recorder (DVR), by allowing for partial deletion of a recorded program. The remaining portion of the recorded program may be presented in response to a second user command.

  • Patent number: 6766100
Abstract: A method and system controls multiple TV tuners to allow a user to watch live video at high quality based on a video capture level independent of a video capture quality used to record playback video. The method and system provides an independent TV tuner from which to capture video that will be replayed wherein the capture quality of the video from the tuner will be independent from the quality other tuner. Accordingly, an delayed video stream can have a lower capture quality setting without affecting the capture quality of primary video being viewed by a user.

  • Patent number: 6754435
Abstract: A method of creating caption-based search information for moving picture data of video titles recorded on a disk storage medium and performing a search of a moving picture data stream by using the caption-based video search information in a video disk reproduction apparatus like a DVD player, and a reproduction apparatus using such method are provided. The method includes the steps of a) creating and storing link information between caption data and a moving picture stream which is reproduced concurrently with the caption data; b) displaying part of the caption data during playback; c) obtaining the location of moving picture data, which is linked to a particular caption data specified by a viewer, based on the created link information; and d) resuming reproduction of the video disk at the located moving picture data. Therefore, this enables rapid and exact search and reproduction of moving picture data linked to a chosen caption data without repetition of a manual search.

  • Patent number: 6754434
Abstract: An AV data recording/reproducing apparatus which has a recording section for recording AV data, e.g., a disk array section. Each frame unit is edited to generate editing result information. The AV data is read from the disk array section on the basis of the editing result information to reproduce the edited AV data. A command analysis section receives various linear editing commands generated by a linear editing machine for generating editing information and from which a command is produced to generate the editing result information. Thus, an editing operation using a familiar linear editing machine can be performed.

  • Patent number: 6751403
Abstract: When moving pictures are recorded onto an optical disc, not only is text data recorded, but also video-recording start date and time, video-recording end date and time, and source name or channel number serving as primary text data are recorded in alphanumeric characters program by program or cell by cell, a program or a cell being used as a unit of video-recording. Other text data is recorded together with language code. Since the primary text data used to select video data is expressed in alphanumeric characters, a program or cell to be reproduced can be selected, regardless of language, and the text information in the same language as that of the apparatus can be searched for.

  • Patent number: 6748158
Abstract: A method of indexing and searching a video database having a plurality of video shots uses 3-D camera motion parameters. For each video shot the 3-D camera motion parameters are estimated, rates of tracking, booming, dollying, panning, tilting, rolling and zooming are computed, and the results are indexed in a metadata index file in the video database according to the types of camera. The video database is searched by selecting one of the types of camera motion and submitting a query. The query is processed to identify those video shots in the video database that satisfy the query in order of priority. The highest priority video shots are displayed for the user.

  • Patent number: 6748159
Abstract: A method and device for recording real time information on a record carrier, e.g. video on an optical disc. The information is arranged according to a recording format, e.g. DVD video, for being playable in standardized players. The information is subdivided into units and playback parameters for reproducing sequences of the units are included in the units. The format prescribes forward pointers to units that are located at a large distance from the unit which includes the forward pointers. However for home recording it is required that a recording is made in one pass, i.e. the video is to be recorded directly at its final location without a large buffer. So the device has a small buffer (30), and a processing unit (20,28) for determining pointers to nearby units based on the buffer contents, while values for pointers pointing far forward are set arbitrarily, based on nearby units and/or default values indicating that the unit intended to be pointed to does not exist.
