  • Patent number: 6847010
Abstract: Disclosed is a DC thermal energy generator for heating localized regions of an integrated circuit. The integrated circuit includes a pair of static circuits whose outputs are shorted, and are in contention. Contention causes current to flow through the circuits, generating heat. Integrated-circuit temperatures can be varied by turning on more or fewer thermals energy generators. The thermal resistance of a, packaged integrated circuit is computed using a well-known relationship integrated circuit's measured temperature, power consumption, and the ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 6844525
Abstract: In a glow plug configured such that a metallic, tubular member having a heater fixedly provided therein is joined to a metallic shell, an external-thread portion is formed on the outer circumferential surface of the metallic shell so as to allow the glow plug to be screwed into a plug-mounting hole formed in an engine head. An annular protrusion is formed on the outer circumferential surface of the metallic, tubular member in such a manner as to protrude radially outward, to annularly extend in the circumferential direction, and to be located in the vicinity of a distal end of the metallic shell. A distally-facing end face of the annular protrusion abuts an annular seat face in the mounting hole, and the metallic, tubular member and the metallic shell are joined such that a distal end face of the metallic shell abuts a rearward-facing end face of the annular protrusion.

  • Patent number: 6838641
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for producing bound written material with representative covers, for marketing texts, magazines, construction plans, collections of drawings, contracts, offers and promotional literature (catalogues) as required in small to medium sizes. A heatable ceramic surface with an integrated heating element has several inductive and thermal sensors on its underside, for detecting covers with a metal inlay and for controlling the heat output. Said inductive sensors are partially also supplemented with sensors with microswitches, optical sensors and additionally, a pressure sensor if the device is to be used for binding covers consisting of non metallic materials at the same time. The very short time for heating up the ceramic heating surface made technically possible by the invention and the use of the stored temperature is made optimal use of through an internal flap system which is motor-operated.

  • Patent number: 6839505
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for delivering solid precursors in deposition processes. A flow monitor is used to measure and regulate the flow of vaporized solid precursor material from a vaporization chamber to a deposition chamber. The flow monitor chokes the supply of vapor into the deposition chamber to regulate vapor flow. To avoid condensation of the solid precursor material in the delivery lines or flow monitor, a controller is placed in a feed back loop to monitor the flow rate and make adjustments to the amount of vapor available at the inlet of the flow monitor.

  • Patent number: 6831252
Abstract: An electric soldering iron useful for heavy duty applications, such as sheet metal lamination, comprises a soldering tip held between two carbon electrodes which are electrically connected through busses to a source of low voltage, variable amperage current. The carbon electrodes are preferably graphite. An additional feature allows the tip to pivot to various angles with respect to the handle to provide optimum comfort and soldering efficiency. The body of the soldering tip is provided with longitudinal grooves into which the shaped carbon electrodes are slid and are secured in place with suitable fasteners, such as bolts. Alternatively, the electrodes may have a contour corresponding to the surface of the body of the soldering tip and are then clamped or otherwise secured to the body. Another option is to use electrodes that are shaped as cylindrical plugs seated in blind recesses in the body of the soldering tip.

  • Patent number: 6386155
Abstract: Variable valve characteristic control apparatuses realize a change in a valve characteristic in accordance with a requirement of an internal combustion engine and a three-dimensional cam for use in the variable valve characteristic control apparatus. In the case of an intake valve, two lift patterns and continuously varying lift patterns between the two lift patterns are realized by the three-dimensional cam through the driving of the variable valve characteristic control apparatus. The two lift patterns provide different amounts of lift in the delay side of a peak within a valve operation angle, but provide equal amounts of lift in the delay side of the peak. Since the intake cam has the two lift patterns, it is possible to select a phase where the two lift patterns provide equal amounts of lift and provide different amounts of lift in phases other than the equal-lift phase so as to accord to the characteristics of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6386842
Abstract: A fluid pump assembly for pumping hydraulic fluid through a controlled brake system includes a housing defining a pumping chamber. The chamber communicates with a hydraulic fluid circuit that operates the controlled brake system. A piston plunger is disposed within the chamber with a shaft affixed to the plunger. An electric coil is affixed to a casing having the shaft inserted therethrough. The coil is coaxially aligned with the shaft. The coil generates a magnetic field through an armature affixed to a distal end of the shaft disposed outside the chamber when receiving electrical current. • Patent number: 6122437
Abstract: An electric heater has a housing defining a heat-transmitting window and reflector assembly is mounted in housing that has a heat reflective surface. A heating element extends within the reflector assembly between opposite ends of the housing and radiates heat energy which is reflected by the reflector assembly. A pair of bracket arms are rotatably attached to opposite ends of the housing for securing the heater to a ceiling. A control switch mounted within one of the bracket arms and a control knob secured to the switch are substantially centered on the heater's axis of rotation. A U-shaped support assembly is used to mount the heater to the ceiling so that the heater is detachably connected to the support assembly. The support bracket can be mounted to the ceiling by a single wood bolt extending through an aperture provided centrally in the support assembly. As a result, the heater can be swiveled about the bolt.
