Patent number: 7791807Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a birefringent layer may be utilized in conjunction with a head-up display (HUD) for a vehicle or the like, for example where the birefringent layer is disposed in or on the windshield. The birefringent layer may impart a change in the polarization of light emerging from a projector of the head-up display in order to reduce or minimize interference between beams from the display and reflecting off of two or more surfaces that are combined at the viewer's eye, and/or to reduce or minimize the effect of polarizing sunglasses on the viewability of the image projected by the display. In one or more embodiments, the birefringent layer alters the polarization of the light reaching the viewer's eye if the user is wearing polarizing glasses or lenses so that less light from the display is blocked.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2008Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Microvision, Inc.Inventors: Eugenia Pasca, Mark O. Patent number: 7777978Abstract: A lens barrel with improved precision is obtained by reducing fitting play of a lens barrel. A coil and a magnetic member are fixed on a lens holding member, and a magnet and a yoke are fixed on an outer barrel. When energizing the coil, the lens holding member moves in the optical axis direction along guide bars by magnetic fluxes from the magnet. The magnetic member receives a magnetic attraction force toward the magnet by leakage fluxes. In the lens holding member, a bearing sleeve is biased by the attraction force perpendicularly to the axis of the guide bar, and the resultant force of the attraction force and a gravitational force exerted on the lens holding member removes play. A resultant force of a force toward the guide bar exerted on the bearing and the gravitational force thereon removes fitting play between the bearing and the guide bar.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2007Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Takehiko Sato

Patent number: 7768725Abstract: A light shielding piece is supported by a second lens holding frame such that the light shielding piece can rotate and move on a plane which is perpendicular to an optical axis. In a shooting state, a through hole formed in the second lens holding frame is closed to establish a light shielding state. In a retracted state, on the other hand, a first auxiliary shaft passing through a through hole of the second lens holding frame pushes the light shielding piece to generate a component force. The generated component force rotates and moves the light shielding piece on a plane which is perpendicular to the optical axis, and the lens barrel is brought into an opened state where the through hole is not blocked.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2007Date of Patent: August 3, 2010Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventor: Tohru Yamano
