Patent number: 4933055Abstract: A novel method for the production of bis(arene) technetium radiodiagnostic imaging agents is herein disclosed. The method consists of employing Fischer synthesis reactants in an ultrasonic bath. The products are virtually pure, thus lacking the severe degree of disproportionation which routinely occurs when partially alkylated bis(arene)technetium compounds are produced by thermally driven reactions.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1987Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Assignee: Mallinckrodt, Inc.Inventor: Dennis W. Patent number: 4632778Abstract: The present invention concerns a procedure for transforming radioactive wastes into ceramics. From the radioactive waste solution, the waste is bound to an inorganic ion exchanger either with batch equilibration or in columns. After the waste has been bound to the ion exchanger, it is transformed into ceramics by admixing it to tile clay or to another ceramizing material and by firing the mixture to a tile. This yields an extremely low soluble and mechanically durable ultimate disposal product of the nuclear waste. The ceramizing procedure is applicable with any inorganic ion exchanger.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1983Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Imatran Voima OyInventors: Jukka K. Patent number: 4554060Abstract: Separation of carbon isotopes by photolysis of CS.sub.2 in cryogenic solutions of nitrogen, krypton and argon with 206 nm light from an iodine resonance lamp is reported. The spectral distribution of the ultraviolet absorption depends on solvent. Thus, in liquid nitrogen the photolytic decomposition rate of .sup.13 CS.sub.2 is greater than that of .sup.12 CS.sub.2 (because the absorption of 206 nm radiation is greater for .sup.13 CS.sub.2), whereas in liquid krypton and liquid argon the reverse is true. The shift in ultraviolet spectrum is a general phenomenon readily characterized as a function of solvent polarizability, and exhibits behavior similar to that for vibrational transitions occurring in the infrared.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1979Date of Patent: November 19, 1985Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of EnergyInventors: Samuel M. Freund, William B. Maier, II, Redus F. Holland, Willard H. Beattie

Patent number: 4459268Abstract: A method of chemically separating plutonium from thorium. Plutonium and thorium to be separated are dissolved in an aqueous feed solution, preferably as the nitrate salts. The feed solution is acidified and sodium nitrite is added to the solution to adjust the valence of the plutonium to the +4 state. A chloride salt, preferably sodium chloride, is then added to the solution to induce formation of an anionic plutonium chloride complex. The anionic plutonium chloride complex and the thorium in solution are then separated by ion exchange on a strong base anion exchange column.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1982Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of EnergyInventors: David G.
