  • Patent number: 9900845
Abstract: Battery power of a dual radio (e.g., Wi-Fi and cellular radios) user equipment (UE) is conserved based on limiting simultaneous (or substantially simultaneous) usage of the radios based on user preference, cellular network condition, device speed, and/or network operator policies. In one aspect, the UE can receive, by employing a first radio (e.g., cellular radio), an adaptable signal strength criterion related to real-time network load conditions of a first radio access network (e.g., cellular network). Moreover, if the signal strength criterion is satisfied, the UE can switch on a second radio (e.g., Wi-Fi radio) to facilitate connection with a second radio network (e.g., Wi-Fi network). The signal strength criterion is updated such that second radios of UEs that are located closer to a cell edge of the first radio access network are switched on before switching on second radios of UE that are located closer to the serving access point.

  • Patent number: 9843827
Abstract: The present invention relates to a physical layer signalling in a digital broadcast network. In particular, for a digital broadcast network supporting a configuration with a plurality of physical layer pipes, a type indicator is signalled on physical layer for a pipe, the type indicator indicates the format of the input stream which may specify a transport stream, a generic stream or an IP stream. In addition, per physical layer pipe application of header and/or content compression to the user packet headers of the input stream is signalled. Another physical layer parameters are advantageously provided or extended in order to increase the flexibility and efficiency of the layer 1 signalling.

  • Patent number: 9819701
Abstract: Methods for transporting a media call between an IMS server and a User Equipment (UE) and of handing over the media call between a cellular network and a WLAN are provided. In an embodiment, the media call data and signaling are split such that the data is transported over the WLAN and the signaling is transported over the cellular network. In another embodiment, handover latency is reduced by using a dual registration process that registers the UE with an IMS server using both a WLAN-based contact and a cellular network-based contact. The media call can then be carried over the WLAN and/or the cellular network and can be handed over seamlessly from one to the other within minimal signaling.

  • Patent number: 9806985
Abstract: A method enabling symmetric routing between a first host within a first AS and a second host within a second AS is disclosed. The method includes detecting that a first routing message was received at an edge router of the first AS from an edge router of the second AS. The first message identifies the second host as a source and the first host as a destination of a forward route. The method further includes determining that the first message further comprises an indication to implement symmetric routing between the first and second hosts and generating a second routing message for propagating to router(s) within the first AS. The second message identifies the first host as a source and the second host as a destination of a return route, and indicates that data is to be sent via the edge router of the first AS that received the first message.

  • Patent number: 9780973
Abstract: A receiver circuit for estimating a state of an uplink channel between a wireless communication unit and a base station in a wireless communication system computes a conditioned Channel Impulse Response (CIR), the amount of conditioning being based on the noise present in the channel. A CIR and a Noise Variance are estimated from a Sounding Reference Signal received from the wireless communication unit. The estimated CIR is conditioned by comparing it with an adaptive threshold value selected from a look up table that lists threshold values against Noise Variance values. The threshold value further conditions the CIR to eliminate noise and interference. The conditioned CIR is converted into the frequency domain and used to provide a channel gain estimate which, together with noise estimates, is used to determine a Signal to Interference Noise Ratio (SINR) for the channel.

  • Patent number: 9736039
Abstract: In a method of identifying matching packets at different locations in a network, a first plurality of packets is received at a first location in the network, and a first subset thereof is selected in accordance with a filter. A second plurality of packets is received at a second location in the network, and a second subset thereof is selected in accordance with the same filter. Each packet in the first and second subsets is parsed to extract invariant header fields from an outermost IP header inwards, until a minimal set of invariant header fields is obtained for that packet, or until it is determined that a minimal set is not obtainable for that packet. A packet signature is computed from the minimal set for each packet having a minimal set, and the packet signatures arc compared to identify matching packets in the first and second subsets.

  • Patent number: 9635147
Abstract: A protocol for transmitting data from an external device to an electronic device is provided in which the external device transmits a data stream which includes the same data packet repeated multiple times. The data packet has a predetermined length and has a header portion at a predetermined position. A receiver at the electronic device captures a block of data having the predetermined length from the transmitted data stream, and a decoder rotates the captured block of data to place the header portion at the predetermined position within the data packet. This eliminates the need for an accurate jitter-free clock reference at the electronic device. By shifting power consumption and system complexity to the external unit where power is typically not constrained, the energy efficiency of the electronic device can be increased.

Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for using uplink transmissions from devices (e.g., wireless tags, clients, etc.) to determine a path loss between neighboring access points. In one example, a wireless controller obtains receive signal strength information of uplink transmissions received at neighboring access points in a wireless network. The wireless controller determines an effective path loss between the neighboring access points based on the receive signal strength information for the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points. The wireless controller also performs radio resource management operations in the wireless network using the effective path loss determined based on the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points.
