  • Patent number: 4606717
Abstract: An apparatus for the production of hollow bodies by blow molding is made up of a locking unit mounted on a bottom stand including a first and second mold support element, each carrying one half of a mold. The two mold support elements are kinematically coupled together by a synchronizing mechanism and fastened to guide spars, with the second mold support elements being displaceable parallel to the first mold support element. In order to prevent the deflection of the guide spars under the effect of the locking pressure leading to the gaping apart of the mold support elements, the locking unit includes a rigid support frame which relieves the bending stress on the guide spars. The guide spars carrying the locking unit are supported on the bottom stand in an axially displaceable manner.

  • Patent number: 4548573
Abstract: Frozen confection articles are produced in non-enveloped, openable moulds by subjecting the closed moulds to an innoxious freezing medium such as very cold air. An apparatus for producing such frozen or moulded articles comprises a plurality of parallel, endless rows of moulds moving along a closed path of straightlined and curved configurations, these moulds each consisting of opposed, mutually hinged mould parts, which are forced together during motion along the straightlined parts of said path, as corresponding to setting or freezing zones, while the moulds are openable for discharging of the hardened or frozen products as they are guided along the curved path, in which the moulds diverge from each other and thus provide space for the opening thereof.

  • Patent number: 4540152
Abstract: A chemical detector employs a very fine serpentine-like groove which is filled with conductive paint, to form an electric circuit. The application discloses a method of making a molded part having such a groove by making a mold insert for a plastic mold in which the mold insert is formed with grooves defining a land pattern which will form the grooves in the molded part. A mold insert is formed with a main block and a pair of side blocks, the main block having twice as many grooves therein as the side blocks so that, when the side blocks are offset with respect to each other, a serpentine-like land pattern is formed in the three blocks.

  • Patent number: 4332537
Abstract: A cavity plate means is removably positioned between upper and lower mold plates with the upper surface of the cavity plate means flush against the upper mold plate. The cavity plate means has openings from top to bottom thereof and holds objects spaced from the upper mold plate with the portions of the objects which are to be encapsulated being in registration with the cavity plate openings. Fluid plastic is forced laterally through feed runners formed in the surface of the upper mold plate and downwardly through gates into the cavity plate openings. After the plastic has hardened, the plastic ejected from the feed runners of the upper mold plate and the cavity plate means is removed. Preferably the objects are pre-mounted on the cavity plate means, and the lower cavity plate surface is positioned flush against the lower mold plate which is uninterruptedly flat.

  • Patent number: 4321225
Abstract: Method for making a sealing device comprising a door or gasket of rigid material curved in one direction and straight in another, as in the form of a portion of a cylinder, and having convex and concave surfaces. Either or both such surfaces has a circumferentially continuous groove across the straight and curved portions that contains a molded in place packing of resilient material. The packing has a portion projecting from the groove and has a recess extending into the groove. The sides of the recess are either parallel to a transverse axis whose direction corresponds to the direction of travel of the mold members relative to each other when separating so that there are no undercuts in the packing material into which portions of the mold would project and prevent separation of the mold members after the molding operation without damaging the packing.

  • Patent number: 4305903
Abstract: A composite fiber reinforced plastic member and its method of manufacture to provide a high-strength light-weight part particularly suitable for use as a structural component. The composite member comprises a body or web comprised of a glass fiber reinforced thermosetting resin matrix having a carbonized fiber reinforced compatible resin stratum integrally bonded by the resin matrix over selected areas thereof corresponding to areas of anticipated high stress. The component is produced by molding under pressure and heat a moldable assembly comprising a first sheet of a flowable heat curable resin containing glass fibers having one or a plurality of second sheets comprised of a compatible flowable heat curable resin containing carbonized fibers disposed over selected areas of the first sheet. During the compression molding operation, the resins in the first and second sheets flow to conform with and fill the mold cavity and the resins cure forming a smooth surfaced composite integral assembly of high strength.

  • Patent number: 4305703
Abstract: The invention provides a die assembly comprising a nozzle and at least one mandrel which defines with the nozzle an annular die orifice. The nozzle has a longitudinally extending stem terminating in the sleeve, the mandrel being located coaxially within the sleeve and coupled to the stem of the nozzle by an axially extending screw threaded coupling. The mandrel includes an internal flow passage having an inlet positioned to receive thermoplastic material from a supply passage extending along the nozzle and an outlet positioned to deliver the material to an annular distribution chamber defined by the opposing surfaces of the mandrel and the sleeve. The distribution chamber provides an uninterrupted annular flow path extending from the outlet to the die orifice, thereby avoiding the disadvantage of imperfect material distribution.

  • Patent number: 4304388
Abstract: A form tie lock tool is provided which includes the combination of a cam lock member for use with hand set concrete panels and an anchor lock member for use with gang form concrete panels. The tool includes a frame having a first opening and a second opening formed therein. A tie lock member, including the cam lock member and the anchor lock member, is connected to the frame. A form tie having a pair of looped ends is insertable between a pair of the hand set form panels. In one embodiment, each of the looped ends is receivable through a slot in one of the hand set panels to be grippingly engaged by the cam lock member which is then rotatable in a first direction to secure the form tie between the hand set panels. Similarly, a form tie having a pair of looped ends is insertable between a pair of gang form panels.

  • Patent number: 4301325
Abstract: A conduit end is sealed around one or more than one insulated conductor by using a chamber (4) having a peripheral wall, a base with an opening through it communicating with the conduit (2) and an opening opposite the base. The conductor(s) (3) extend through both openings; a pre-formed annular body of a setting resin composition (8) is inserted while in a pasty or viscous condition into the chamber to encircle the conductor or conductors. Axial pressure is then applied to the still pasty or viscous annular body to cause it to flow and form a sealing body in peripherally continuous contact with the chamber and with the, or each, insulated conductor, after which the resin composition sets. A kit for use in the method is also claimed.

  • Patent number: 4298413
Abstract: The invention provides a process and apparatus for producing fabric-reinforced, thin concrete panels suitable as a backer board for construction materials such as ceramic tile, slate and thin brick. A process is described whereby the components of the panel are deposited on a web of disposable carrier/release material such as polyethylene coated paper while moving on a conveyer belt to form a continuous strip, the strip is cut into panels and the wet, uncured panels are stacked by means of an air-float stacking unit, then subsequently cured.

  • Patent number: 4297314
Abstract: In order to impart a permanent out-of-plane configuration to a flexible diaphragm, for example a diaphragm used as the valve closing member in a multiple fuel metering valve, the invention provides that the diaphragm material, which may preferably be a rubberized textile web, is held by friction between two cooperating plates while a punch and die set causes deformation of parts of the diaphragm. In order to provide permanence to the deformation, the punch and/or die are heated during the deformation process while the remaining parts of the diaphragm are unheated and may be cooled. In a particular embodiment, the punch and die set imparts a plurality of dish-shaped depressions to the diaphragm; these serve to hold valve closing members for a multiple fuel distribution valve. The permanent depressions serve to hold the valve closing plates without mechanical attachment and/or perforation of the diaphragm and do not add undesirable rigidity to the diaphragm.
