  • Patent number: 4677750
Abstract: A guide arrangement for portable power saws is made up of a guide plate adapted to be placed on the work and a stand plate fixed to the saw. The guide plate possesses a raised rail running in the feed direction of the saw. In use, the saw with the stand plate is placed on the guide plate so that a socket in the stand plate fits round the rail and the stand plate may then be moved along the guide plate on the rail, the guiding section straddling the rail and guiding the stand plate on the rail. The stand plate is fitted with a backlash limiter having an operating part acting against the side of the rail for reducing play between the rail and the stand plate. This means that the saw is guided in the length direction parallel to the rail of the guide plate and it is possible for straight cuts to be sawn with a high degree of accuracy without any danger of the saw running askew. The backlash limiter may take the form of a spring loaded member or one driven by a screw or threaded rod.

  • Patent number: 4534422
Abstract: In deep bore drilling it is usual to use a fluid operated percussive hammer to provide necessary drive for the boring operation. However a difficulty which is encountered with hammers which are currently in use is that the manufacture of the components for such hammers involves considerable amount of precise machining which not only increases the manufacturing cost of such units but also reduces the service life of the components. Some of the typical hammers in use generally comprise an outer cylindrical casing with a feed tube positioned concentrically within the casing and a piston slidably mounted within the casing and over the feed tube to reciprocate therein and impact on a drill bit mounted in and retained at the bottom of the casing.

  • Patent number: 4513827
Abstract: The rotary tool contains a gear portion (16) whose input shaft (26) is driven by a hydraulic motor. The input shaft (26) is coupled with the output shaft (31) via an overload clutch (35,36,42) to ensure that with a low load, the transmission ratio is 1:1. With a higher load, the overload clutch automatically disengages so that the drive will be effected from the input shaft (26) via a double-stage sun-and-planet gear to the output shaft (31) which then is turning at a lower speed. Between the first stage (I GS) and the second stage (II GS) of the reduction gear, there is an overrunning clutch (52) which only couples with each other the two gear stages if the output shaft (31) turns more slowly than the input shaft (26).

  • Patent number: 4509669
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sound-dampened driving apparatus for fasteners wherein a main valve member is arranged above a working cylinder of the apparatus and movable within a cylindrical bore. When the main valve member is in its lower at rest position, the main valve member separates the working cylinder from a source of compressed air and connects the cylinder to the atmosphere. When the main valve member is in its upper actuating position, the working cylinder is connected to the source of compressed air and the valve member blocks the cylinder connection to the atmosphere. The space above the main valve member within the cylindrical bore is capable of being alternately connected to either the atmosphere or compressed air, and includes a sound dampening means arranged in the space above the main valve member.

  • Patent number: 4476942
Abstract: An inlet control valve particularly useful in connection with pneumatic tools or the like. The valve includes a longitudinally depressible member passing loosely through a frusto-conical plug in a matching frusto-conical valve seat. In the closed position, the plug is seated and the stem is sealed by an O-ring. As the trigger is depressed, the O-ring first releases a path for fluid flow about the shaft within the plug providing an idle speed. Further depressing of the trigger causes a shoulder to contact the plug and, thereafter, move the plug rearward which provides an increasing amount of fluid flow around the plug proportional to the amount of depression thus providing a variable speed.

  • Patent number: 4441563
Abstract: A power tool, such as a surgical drill, has a tool element retained in a collet coupled to the output spindle of the tool. Resilient member constantly maintains the collet in its closed position. Upon rotation of the spindle in a reverse direction, opposite to its normal driving direction, a cam is actuated to open the collet against the force of the resilient member, thereby facilitating removal of the tool element from the collet. Preferably, the tool is of the cordless type and has a reversible electric motor controlled by a pair of triggers mounted on the pistol-grip handle for the tool. The triggers are conveniently disposed adjacent to each other and are easily distinguishable from one another, thereby providing for a convenient one-hand operation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4423567
Abstract: A beam stroker honing machine is controlled to provide a vertical stroke by means of a series of non-contacting sensors. The sensors are a plurality of reed switches which sense the position of a hydraulic cylinder which moves the honing beam up and down. The switches are operated by a magnetic piston associated with the cylinder and by selecting a switch the length of the stroke can be changed during machine operation. The honing machine also provides a power dwell operation which allows the honing tool to remain and reciprocate over a small distance at the bottom of the cylinder being honed for selectable period of time. After power dwell operation the honing machine is returned to its normal vertical stroke selected as above described.
