  • Patent number: 9426033
Abstract: A Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for a target computing device that is equipped with an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) or other hardware element that provides forwarding and/or switching capability is used to analyze an abstract candidate device model. The abstract candidate device model is received from a controller and specifies intended forwarding behavior for the target device. The HAL analyzes the abstract candidate device model based on its knowledge of the architecture of the ASIC or other hardware element providing forwarding or switching capability to the target device. If the behavior is supported by the target device's architecture, the model may be implemented in a specific manner supported by that architecture and used to control forwarding behavior on the target device.

  • Patent number: 9413552
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a ring supervisor operating as a server for maintaining and allocating addresses for devices in a ring topology. The ring supervisor may obtain an ordered list of devices in the ring by sending a data collection frame that passes through each device around the ring with each device appending its preconfigured address information. The ring supervisor may then operate to apply the addressing provided by each device, or alternatively, allocate different addresses to each device from a separate pool. As a result, control program software for ring devices can be developed using a general pool of addresses without requiring specific knowledge of actual addresses. Also, if a device requires replacement, the device may be replaced without requiring modification to the control program to provide the address for the replacement device.

  • Patent number: 9398321
Abstract: This system provides wired and/or wireless access throughout a multimedia network built on a distributed architecture which can be transparent to the user. This multimedia network includes content which is imported or generated within the network. The system allows for the content provider to determine the license status of content and update the license status of content which was previously provided by that provider. The external content can be accessed in real time or downloaded and stored within the system for later access at the convenience of the user. The usage of some content is controlled by the use of encryption and other protection methods. The system allows for storage of live video by storing the digitized video and allowing the user to control how, when and where the content is viewed. The system makes available multiple multimedia services to all users in the network or connected via the internet.

  • Patent number: 9397940
Abstract: An example method is provided and includes receiving a packet associated with a flow, determining a tunnel identifier for the flow, and determining a flow identifier for the flow. The method includes associating the flow identifier and the tunnel identifier to an Internet protocol (IP) address to generate a binding to be used for a network address and port translation (NAPT). In other embodiments, a routing decision is executed based on the binding between the identifiers and the IP address. The flow identifier can be a context identifier (CID), and the tunnel identifier can be a softwire tunnel ID. In yet other embodiments, the packet can be tagged as part of an encapsulation operation, which includes providing information about a network location at which the network address and port translation is to be executed.

  • Patent number: 9397807
Abstract: A method in a UE for adapting a radio procedure is provided. The UE obtains information about signal configurations indicating: whether or not a DL RS, transmitted in cells on a first carrier frequency of a first carrier use the same one of a first and a second signal configuration, or whether or not the DL RS transmitted in the cells on the first carrier frequency use the same one of the first and the second signal configuration as that used for DL RS transmitted in a serving cell of the UE on the first carrier frequency. The first signal configuration includes the DL RS not being transmitted in every subframe. The second signal configuration includes the DL RS being transmitted in every subframe and also in every resource block over an entire channel bandwidth of a neighbor cell. • Patent number: 9391665
Abstract: Embodiments provide a method and apparatus for performing time division duplex communication, such as may be performed over a wireless communications network. In the embodiments a first circuit pathway is used to transmit a first radio frequency signal in a transmission mode and a second circuit pathway is used to receive a second radio frequency signal in a reception mode. In the reception mode, the first radio frequency signal is switched to an alternate circuit pathway. This may be performed by a radio frequency integrated circuit or by other control circuitry. Switching to an alternate circuit pathway reduces leakage of the first radio frequency signal into the second radio frequency signal.

  • Patent number: 9391907
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for improving the efficient use of a wireless channel. Flows of compatible packets to be transmitted are processed in separate queues based on characteristics of the packets, destination and quality of service (QoS) requirements. Aggregation parameters selected for each flow define when packets aggregated on a flow are to be sent. The aggregation parameters may reflect packet type, such as QoS requirements, an application type and/or wireless channel conditions. In some embodiments, the aggregation parameters indicate a threshold frame size or include a threshold time to buffer a packet while waiting for other packets on that flow to fill a frame. When an aggregation parameter for a queue is met, the aggregated packets are transmitted as a frame. The queue is cleared and subsequent packets may begin aggregating. Some types of packets, such as acknowledgment packets, may be sent without aggregation.

  • Patent number: 9391878
Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a computer network establishes a reliable map that defines a set of packet criteria for which reliability is desired over an unreliable link to a peer device. In response to receiving a first packet from the peer device over the unreliable link, the device acknowledges the first packet to the peer device when the first packet matches the packet criteria of the reliable map. Also, in response to receiving a second packet destined via the peer device over the unreliable link, the device buffers the second packet when the second packet matches the packet criteria of the reliable map and retransmits the buffered second packet over the unreliable link to the peer device until acknowledged by the peer device.

  • Patent number: 9363204
Abstract: A control plane management system is disclosed for distributed or virtualized network fabrics. The system instantiates a harmonized control plane that aids in provisioning resources across layers within a fabric. The system comprises a network fabric interface that couples with a network fabric of interconnected nodes. The system further comprises a control plane management engine coupled with the network fabric interface. The management engine obtains one or more resource profiles related to each of an upper networking layer of the fabric and a lower networking layer of the fabric, and constructs a control plane provisioning policy as a function of the upper and lower networking layer resource profiles. The management engine then instantiates a harmonized control plane, according to the provisioning policy, by creating a harmonized control plane object having rules outlining the responsibilities of the harmonized control plane.
