Abstract: A host computer supports a virtual guest system running thereon. The host system has a firewall that prevents it from communicating directly with the Internet, except with predetermined trusted sites. The virtual guest runs on a hypervisor, and the virtual guest comprises primarily a browser program that is allowed to contact the Internet freely via an Internet access connection that is completely separate from the host computer connection, such as a dedicated network termination point with its specific Internet IP address, or by tunneling through the host machine architecture to reach the Internet without exposing the host system. The virtual guest system is separated and completely isolated by an internal firewall from the host, and the guest cannot access any of the resources of the host computer, except that the guest can initiate cut, copy and paste operations that reach the host, and the guest can also request print of documents.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device including a disk, and a controller which calculates a first corrected value based on a first eccentricity of the disk, and writes a first track based on the first corrected value, wherein when the controller interrupts the process for writing the second track so as to overlap the first track at a first position, the controller measures a second eccentricity of the disk, and compares the first eccentricity with the second eccentricity, and when the first eccentricity is different from the second eccentricity, the controller restarts the process for writing the second track from a second position away from the first position in a radial direction.
Abstract: In an operating method of a user equipment that exchanges signals with network nodes of a cellular radio access network, a quantity that is indicative of a current operating temperature of the user equipment is measured; the user equipment determines whether a threshold value relating to the operating temperature has been exceeded; if the threshold value is exceeded, temperature information is transmitted to a network node of the cellular radio access network, to indicate that the threshold value has been exceeded; in response, the user equipment receives an instruction to use a second set of operating parameters requiring a smaller average power input for the connection to the cellular radio access network in comparison with the first set of operating parameters; and the user equipment, in response to receiving the instruction, reconfigures its connection to the cellular radio access network so as to use the second set of operating parameters.

Abstract: A system and method for authentication of a communication device is disclosed. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, an authentication system can have a controller element that receives from a communication device by way of a packet-switched network an authentication request comprising a first identification (ID) of a gateway and a second ID of the communication device. The gateway and at least one network element of the packet-switched network can be provisioned to have a physical association with each other such that other network elements of the packet-switched network deny services to the gateway when the gateway attempts to operate outside of said physical association. From said physical association and the aforementioned IDs the controller element can authenticate the communication device. Additional embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract: Processes are disclosed for the conversion of biomass to oxygenated organic compound using a simplified syngas cleanup operation that is cost effective and protects the fermentation operation. The processes of this invention treat the crude syngas from the gasifier by non-catalytic partial oxidation. The partial oxidation reduces the hydrocarbon content of the syngas such as methane, ethylene and acetylene to provide advantageous gas feeds for anaerobic fermentations to produce oxygenated organic compounds such as ethanol, propanol and butanol. Additionally, the partial oxidation facilitates any additional cleanup of the syngas as may be required for the anaerobic fermentation. Producer gases and partial oxidation processes are also disclosed.

Abstract: Operating parameters for a femto access point (FAP) are efficiently and accurately defined. During provisioning of the FAP, the system obtains operating parameters utilized by a nearby FAP expected to have a substantially similar radio environment as the provisioning FAP. Moreover, weighting is applied to the nearby FAP to determine which set of operating parameters to utilize at the provisioning FAP. Accordingly, pre-existing operating parameters, optimized by the nearby FAP are employed to augment initial network listen measurements performed at the provisioning FAP, and thus improve speed and accuracy of initial FAP parameter provisioning.

Abstract: An authentication relay and a NAT module of a telecommunication system facilitate communication between authentication clients and an authentication server. The authentication relay identifies authentication messages from the authentication clients intended for the authentication server. The authentication relay repackages the identified authentication message to add additional information. The NAT module translates the private IP address and UDP port number of the authentication client included in the original authentication message into a public IP address and unique UDP port number included with the repackaged authentication message sent to the authentication server. The same public IP address is used for authentication messages from a plurality of authentication clients thereby reducing the number of IP addresses required by the system.
