  • Patent number: 9735909
Abstract: A radio repeater system is described that disables itself to avoid interfering with mobile network performed multilateration of mobile devices. The radio repeater provides additional network coverage for a localized area. The localized area can include enclosed spaces such as buildings or transportation terminals. The radio repeater system can monitor the signals received from cell towers, and if there are at least three signals of a predetermined signal strength, the radio repeater can disable itself to avoid interfering with mobile locating performed by the network. The radio repeater can remain disabled until the conditions that led to the disabling have passed.

  • Patent number: 9706045
Abstract: In one embodiment, an IMS network node is operable, responsive to receiving a SIP INVITE request from an enterprise user to initiate origination of an outgoing cellular call to a called party, for establishing a first call leg to the enterprise user by sending a SIP INVITE message back to the enterprise user. The IMS network node includes functionality for establishing a second call leg to the called party. The first and second call legs are patched to establish an end-to-end communications path between the enterprise user and the called party, wherein an enterprise address instead of a non-enterprise address of the enterprise user is presented to the called party as a calling line identity with respect to the outgoing cellular call from the enterprise user.

  • Patent number: 9706353
Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for determining the identity of a user associated with a wireless device located near a geographic location at a specific time. In response to the occurrence of an event at a geographic location, a request can be issued by a wireless provider to users of wireless devices to provide the geographic locations of their respective devices and their identities to one or more entities. Upon receiving an affirmative response to the request, the wireless provider communicates information to the entities allowing the entities to contact the users to solicit information regarding the occurrence of the event. A wireless provider may send a request for authorization to users of wireless devices to provide geographic locations when the wireless device enters a predefined geographic area.

  • Patent number: 9681490
Abstract: According to one configuration, an access point control resource receives channel allocation information indicating a change to allocation of channels in a wireless band currently used by multiple wireless access points to communicate with multiple communication devices in a network. The access point control resource uses the channel allocation information to identify a particular wireless channel (such as a de-allocated wireless channel) to be terminated from use by the multiple wireless access points. In accordance with the channel allocation information, when vacating use of the de-allocated channel, the access point control resource controls an order of terminating use of the particular wireless channel by the multiple wireless access points.

  • Patent number: 9667588
Abstract: Previously cached data that includes contextual information is transferred between wireless devices. A first wireless device that is highly mobile is arranged to receive data from an external data source for storage on the first wireless device. The first wireless device subsequently travels to another locale where a second wireless device is located. After the wireless devices discover one another, cached data is transferred from the first wireless device to the second wireless device such that the cached data is replicated including contextual information. Each wireless device is configured to process data according to a set of acquisition rules and/or user preferences so that the cached data is managed according context. The cached data is effectively replicated by the wireless devices such that the cached data originating from the external data source is made available to wireless devices that are otherwise unable to retrieve data from the external data source.

  • Patent number: 9652486
Abstract: A method of conserving power for a navigation application of a device is provided. The method determines a time for timely departure to an event that is stored in a calendar application of the device. The time for timely departure is determined based on the starting time of the event and an estimated travel time from the current location of the device to the location of the event. The method provides the time for timely departure to the calendar application. The method calculates the time for providing an update to the time for timely departure based on the remaining time before the time for timely departure. The method hibernates the navigation application until the time for providing the update. The method repeats the determining, providing, calculating, and hibernating several times.

  • Patent number: 9638784
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program product for deduplicating location fingerprint data for a venue are described. A system including a location server, or a mobile device, or both, can deduplicate the location fingerprint data. Deduplicating the location fingerprint data can include identifying correlated signal sources the signals of which are mutually dependent such that measurements of one signal source can be used to predict measurements of another. The system can determine a mutual information entropy value for each pair of signal sources, and identify the correlated signal sources based on high mutual information entropy value. The system can adjust weights of the correlated signal sources in location determination.

  • Patent number: 9641972
Abstract: An online system receives a description of a physical location associated with a content item and a threshold distance of the physical location. To identify users eligible to be presented with the content item, the online system divides a geographic map of the physical location associated with the content item into a plurality of geo-tiles each representing a portion of the map. The online system computes and stores values describing portions of a geographic region represented by certain geo-tiles and associates the geographic region with the physical location if the stored values equal or exceed a threshold value. If the geographic region is associated with the physical location, users associated with the geographic region are identified by the online system as eligible to receive the content item.

  • Patent number: 9625563
Abstract: Managing use of a location sensor on a computing device for energy efficiency. The location sensor is briefly initialized to measure the signal quality. The measured signal quality is compared to pre-defined signal criteria values. The signal criteria values correspond to acceptable energy consumption, for example. If the signal criteria values are satisfied, location information for the computing device is obtained. Otherwise, the location sensor is disabled without obtaining the location information. In some embodiments, a lower-energy location sensor is used to obtain location information to determine whether to enable a higher-energy location sensor based on expected energy consumption.
