  • Patent number: 9009738
Abstract: Device identification techniques using identifiable device functions are described. In one or more implementations, data is obtained that describes functions of a device that are identifiable for use in conjunction with a computing device and a device identifier (ID) is computed for the peripheral device based on the identifiable device functions.

  • Patent number: 8788631
Abstract: A system for extending an enterprise resource planning application is provided. The system employs “Add-ins” that each have a functional behavior that is independent of the client on which it executes and a user interface behavior that is dependent on the characteristics of the display, and other characteristics, of the client (i.e., a display target). When a user attempts to invoke an Add-in via the client runtime, the client runtime determines whether the Add-in is available at the user's computer. If not, the client runtime downloads the appropriate artifact for execution at the user's computer. In this environment, neither the client runtime nor the server-side business logic contains the logic used to implement a particular Add-in behavior on the supported display targets. Instead, this logic is contained within separate artifacts associated with a single Add-in having a particular behavior, each artifact implementing the behavior for a specific display target.

  • Patent number: 6895425
Abstract: An expert proxy server is described that is coupled to a number of wireless devices through a wireless network, and to a number of server computer systems through an external network such as, for example, the Internet. The expert proxy server acts as an agent for a wireless device by providing a service for the wireless device. Specifically, the expert proxy server determines that a service is to be provided to the wireless device. Next, the expert proxy server identifies an application that provides the service and then communicates with the identified application that provides the service. The expert proxy server compiles the results of the communication with the application and then transmits the compilation to the wireless device over the wireless network. Thus, the relatively smaller bandwidth of the wireless network is preserved by transmitting a minimal amount of information over the wireless network while leaving more extensive communications to occur over higher bandwidth external networks.

  • Patent number: 6374344
Abstract: A technique handles load instructions within a data processor that includes a cache circuit having a data cache and a tag memory indicating valid entries within the data cache. The technique involves writing data to the data cache during a series of four processor cycles in response to a first load instruction. Additionally, the technique involves updating the tag memory and preventing reading of the tag memory in response to the first load instruction during a first processor cycle in the series of processor cycles. Furthermore, the technique involves reading tag information from the tag memory during a processor cycle of the series of four processor cycles following the first processor cycle in response to a second load instruction.
