Patent number: 7260086Abstract: Methods and systems for message-origination-based global title translation include receiving a signaling message and determining whether global title translation is required. In response to determining that global title translation is required, a lookup is performed in the global title translation database. The lookup is based on the called party address and the originating point code in the signaling message. The destination point code from the global title translation is inserted in the signaling message. The signaling message is then routed to its intended destination based on the destination point code and optionally the originating point code in the signaling message.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2003Date of Patent: August 21, 2007Assignee: TekelecInventors: Robert J. Patent number: 7230925Abstract: In a trunking-port network environment, a ticket assigner and a ticket distributor are included in a packet switch load balance device together to achieve an output load balance during the transmission process of packet switching. The ticket assigner assigns one of the tickets to a packet received by a logical port, and the ticket distributor determines which one of the physical output ports to transmit the packet according to the assigned ticket. In the transmission process, a load monitor dynamically adjusts the ticket distribution scheme used for the ticket distributor, and thus the load balance is optimized.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2002Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: VIA Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Chin-Chang Li, Saten Shih

Patent number: 7212501Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for dynamically controlling link parameters during communication between one or more receiver/transmitters. Transmissions are sent as frames from a Base Station Controller to one or more Customer Premises Equipment. Together with a payload, each frame contains a special control message that pre-announces to both the transmitter and receiver the link parameters to be used until changed. The receiving Customer Premises Equipment processes the link parameters and returns a payload of its own within the same frame. With this dynamic approach, link parameters may be changed as often as every frame.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2004Date of Patent: May 1, 2007Assignee: Aperto Networks, Inc.Inventor: Subir Varma

Patent number: 7193997Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for classifying data packets in data processing systems. A first packet classification method determines which of a plurality of predefined processing rules applies to a data packet, where each rule is associated with a range of possible data values in each of a plurality of dimensions (X,Y) corresponding to respective data items in the packet format. For each dimension (X,Y), it is determined which of a set of predefined basic ranges contains the corresponding data value (I1, I2) from the packet, where the basic ranges correspond to respective non-overlapping value ranges between successive rule range boundaries in the dimension. For the basic range so determined for each dimension, a corresponding basic range identifier is selected from a set of predefined basic range identifiers corresponding to respective basic ranges in that dimension.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2002Date of Patent: March 20, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Jan Van Lunteren, Antonius Engbersen

Patent number: 7190704Abstract: A method for communicating information is disclosed wherein a time slot is allocated in a time division multiple access system for a transmission from a subscriber to a headend. Synchronization of a clock of the subscriber with respect to a clock of the headend is enhanced using a message transmitted from the headend to the subscriber which is indicative of an error in a subscriber transmission time with respect to the time slot. A feedback loop process is used to determine at least one of fractional symbol timing correction and carrier phase correction of a transmission from the subscriber to the headend. Filter coefficients are generated at the headend from a ranging signal transmitted from the subscriber to the headend and transmitting the filter coefficients from the headend to the subscriber, the filter coefficients being used by the subscriber to compensate for noise in a transmission from the subscriber to the headend.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2004Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Theodore F. Patent number: 7184447Abstract: A method of designating a channel to be dedicated between a base station and a mobile station in a CDMA communication system. The base station generates designation information including a common channel designation indicator, the address of a common power control channel, transmission rate, and action time and transmits a message with the designation information to the mobile station. Then, the mobile station receives the message with the designation information and transmits a response message for the received message to the base station on a designated channel indicated by the designated channel indicator with transmission power set by the common power control channel at the data rate at the action time.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chang-Hoi Koo, Hyun-Seok Lee

Patent number: 7184440Abstract: A multi-protocol switch that supports both ATM and IP traffic and method for use is presented. The multi-protocol switch associates certain input connections, as identified by virtual path identifier/virtual connection identifier (VPI/VCI), with either IP or ATM traffic. When the connection identifier for a cell received indicates that the cell is an ATM cell, the multi-protocol switch forwards the cell through the switch, where the forwarding is based on the connection identifier for the cell. If the connection identifier for a cell indicates that the cell is IP traffic, the cell is stored with other cells included in the IP packet to which the cells correspond within the ingress line card of the switch. The destination address included in the packet is used to determine a forwarding decision for the cells included in the packet. After at least partial reassembly, the packet is segmented and forwarded through the switch based on the forwarding decision determined from the destination address.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2000Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Alcatel Canada Inc.Inventors: Jason T. Patent number: 7167447Abstract: A method and a GGSN support node for sending data packets to a mobile station in a mobile communications system from an external communication system. The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system. It establishes at least one filter for controlling the mapping and associates the filter with the mobile station. It also maps at least one of the data flows on the basis of the filter and configures the filter on the basis of information which preferably originates from the mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2001Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Nokia Networks OyInventors: Mikko Puuskari, Juha Kalliokulju, Tero Mäkelä, Tuija Hurtta, Matti Turunen, Jan Suumäki

Patent number: 7165095Abstract: Large payload files are selectively partitioned in blocks and the blocks distributed to a plurality of distribution stations at the edge of the network qualified to have the data. Each qualified station decides how much and what portion of the content to save locally, based on information such as network location and environment, usage, popularity, and other distribution criteria defined by the content provider. Different pieces of a large payload file may be available from different nodes, however, when a user requests access to the large payload file, for example, through an application server, a virtual file control system creates an illusion that the entire file is present at the connected node. However, since only selective portions of the large payload file may actually be resident at that node's storage at the time of request, a cluster of distribution servers at the distribution station may download the non-resident portions of the file as the application server is servicing the user.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2001Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Siew Yong Sim

Patent number: 7161913Abstract: A method for transmitting a data packet from a mobile node to a correspondent node through a foreign agent while maintaining security is disclosed. A correspondent node transmits a first data packet for communication with a mobile node to the home agent. Upon receipt of the first data packet from the home agent, the foreign agent transmits the first data packet to the mobile node through a radio channel. The home agent transmits the IP address of the foreign agent to the correspondent node after transmitting the first data packet to the foreign agent. The correspondent node transmits tunneling indication information indicating whether it can decapsulate a data packet encapsulated by the foreign agent to the foreign agent after receiving the IP address of the foreign agent from the home agent.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2001Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tae-Sung Jung
