  • Patent number: 7720021
Abstract: A method for a setting up a call to a mobile station using an intermediary mobile station. The intermediary mobile station is a multi-mode device that may exchange data according to at least two different protocols. One protocol is a cellular communication protocol, such as CDMA. A second protocol is a WLAN protocol, such as 802.11. When a RAN attempts to setup a call with a first mobile station and the call attempt fails, the RAN establishes a cellular wireless link with the intermediary mobile station instead, and the intermediary mobile station establishes a WLAN link with the first mobile station. Call setup and bearer communication may then proceed between the RAN and the first mobile station with the intermediary mobile station functioning as a wireless bridge.

  • Patent number: 7711361
Abstract: A method and system for distributed roaming in a wireless mesh network are disclosed. Cells are able to track and predict a users movement throughout the network. The user's roaming profile is forwarded to predicted future cells before the user actually enters those cells. When the user enters a new cell, roaming is completed without communication to any other cells. Thus, handoff time is reduced and users may more seamlessly move throughout the network coverage area.

  • Patent number: 7657259
Abstract: Particular embodiments provide an optimal allocation of a bearer manager or home agent. In one embodiment, a message is received from a mobile node requesting access to a visiting network that is different from a home network for the mobile node. An authentication request is sent to the home network requesting authentication for access. The authentication request indicates that a home agent has not been assigned. The home AAA server then sends a response that indicates the visiting AAA server can assign a home agent for the mobile node. The visiting AAA server then assigns a home agent that is optimally determined. The visiting home agent is different from a home agent that is found in the mobile node's home network. When a registration request is received, an IP gateway may send the registration request to the visiting home agent, which may not be sent back to the home network.

  • Patent number: 7647039
Abstract: A base station control portion selects one or multiple signals in accordance with the state of radio waves from signals received through multiple communication paths. A wireless communication apparatus communicates with a wireless terminal and a wired communication network at multiple frequencies. In response to a request for software upgrading from a network management device, the wireless communication apparatus selects one frequency, controls the state of transmission waves of a wireless interface such that a communication path in which a communication service is being provided can be switched to another communication network without interruption, rewrites software for each wireless interface to software received through a wired interface in advance, and returns the state of transmission waves of the wireless interface. Thus, the software can be upgraded without blackouts of the communication service to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: 7583630
Abstract: A method for providing mobile station control of data transmission rates in the wireless network is provided. The method includes transmitting data transmission rate (DTR) data from a base station to a mobile station. The DTR data comprises a first Walsh cover that is different from a second Walsh cover that identifies the base station. A DTR request is received from the mobile station at the base station. The DTR request comprises the first Walsh cover. A data transmission rate from the base station to the mobile station is reduced based on the DTR request.

  • Patent number: 7532876
Abstract: A reception intensity measuring unit measures a reception intensity of a radio wave received by a radio reception unit under control of a connection control unit. When it is judged that the reception intensity of the received radio wave is larger than a reception intensity set in advance, the reception intensity measuring unit controls a transmission intensity changing unit to lower a transmission intensity of a radio wave to be transmitted from a radio transmission unit. When the transmission intensity of the radio wave to be transmitted from the radio transmission unit is lowered by the transmission intensity changing unit, an authentication processing unit executes authentication processing with another apparatus via the radio reception unit and the radio transmission unit and controls an authentication data registering unit to register authentication data, which is obtained as a result of the authentication processing, in a memory.

  • Patent number: 7508805
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for detecting a data rate in a turbo decoder for a mobile communication system. When a rate selector selects one data rate among a plurality of data rates, a turbo decoder repeatedly decodes an input data frame within a predetermined repetition limit number using the selected data rate and outputs the decoded data. A CRC detector performs CRC check on the decoded data and outputs the CRC check result, and a decoding state measurer measures decoding quality depending on the decoded data and outputs decoding state information. A controller then sets the repetition limit number to a predetermined minimum value, controls the repetition limit number according to the decoding state information, controls the rate selector and determines a data rate of the input data depending on the CRC check result.

  • Patent number: 7477894
Abstract: Wireless roaming in a computer network may be handled through a solution provided on one or more switches in the network. A roam request sent by a switch corresponding to the user's new location may be received by the other switches in the network. If the user is known to any of these switches, then they may execute steps to accommodate the roaming. The tasks performed may vary based on whether the roaming is on layer 2 or layer 3, whether the switch is a home agent for the client, and/or whether the switch already corresponds to the user's new location.

  • Patent number: 7433679
Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus and method of providing a history of failed calls for a subscriber who is targeted by the failed calls. In the present invention, when an exchanger can not route a call to a target subscriber it notifies an HLR (Home Location Register) of call routing failure. Then, the HLR sends information about the failed call, which includes the called and the calling number, and call originating time (or call receiving time), to a call control system. The call control system adds the received failed-call information to a calling history for the called number. Afterwards, when the called number is accessible the call control system provides a subscriber of the called number with the calling history, whereby the subscriber can know all of calling numbers that requested to make connections with him or her while he or she was not able to communicate with a mobile network.

  • Patent number: 7406310
Abstract: A network management apparatus inputs a plurality of work dates and time periods to update software in a base station. The apparatus obtains an n-week average of the numbers of connection calls during each of the input time periods for each day of the week, based on statistical information about connection with a wireless terminal in each base station. The apparatus obtains an m-month average of the numbers of connection calls during each of the input time periods for each date, based on the statistical information. The apparatus calculates, for each of the time periods for a work date, an average or a weighted average of the n-week average and the m-month average to obtain a degree of impact upon a communication service. A processing section selects a work date and a time period having the minimum degree of impact and updates the software.
