  • Patent number: 4653195
Abstract: A reusable template is disclosed herein for use in cutting pipe and other related applications in conjunction as a guide for an oxygen cutting torch. The template, as described in a preferred embodiment as a pipe template, has one or more contour ends so configured that after the branch pipe is cut it will fit flush against the external surface of a header pipe at the desired angle determined by the configuration of the contour end. The template is made of oxidation resistant material, with an alloy content sufficient to produce refractory oxides when heated by a flame, thus preventing the template from being cut by the oxygen cutting torch. The template is held in place over or on the workpiece or pipe by means well known in the art. The contour end or shape of the template is used as a guide for the nozzle of a standard oxygen cutting torch.

  • Patent number: 4651435
Abstract: This discloses an improved sine bar for accurate measurement of angles for machining operations, and methods of its use. This comprises a rectangular elongated base member, projecting from opposite ends of which are cylindrical connecting rods. A conforming reference bar is hingedly connected to the base member, and has a cylindrical bearing pin fastened beneath one end. When the sine bar is open to accommodate one or more calibrated gauge blocks, a spring-biased chain keeps the gauge block(s) in position between the base member and the bearing pin. A recess in the base member permits measurement of small angles. This device is especially adapted for use in setting up a lathe compound to calibrated angular positions, but is also useful for other types of milling and machining operations in which the sine bar rests on a flat surface.

  • Patent number: 4644660
Abstract: In a slide gage, a slide (16) is guided displaceably by means of four sliding elements (30, 32, 34, 36) arranged in pairs on both sides of a guide rail (10). The two sliding elements (32, 36) located diagonally opposite one another and absorbing the torque transmitted to the slide (16) by a measuring leg (18) during a measuring operation are supported rigidly on the slide, while the remaining two sliding elements (30, 34) are supported resiliently on the slide. This guarantees both a high measuring accuracy and easy movability of the slide (16) on the guide rail (10).

  • Patent number: 4642902
Abstract: An apparatus for determining deviations of a circular form of a dynamically balanced part characterized by a spindle which can be set in approximate alignment with the axis of the unit under test, an interval sensor rotated around the spindle axis for radially sensing a circumferential surface of the unit under test and electronic signal processing unit for separating a deviation signal component of the sensor signal created by a deviation from the circular form that is detected from other signal components of the sensor signal which are created from an eccentric setting of the spindle with respect to the axis of the unit under test. As a result of such a signal analysis, errors occurring from the eccentric spindle setting are practically avoided. Thus, no high demands are made for the spindle setting when making, for example, a roundness check of a steel pipe.

  • Patent number: 4638570
Abstract: An improved Roots-type blower (10) and fixture (200) for timing rotors (20, 22) and timing gears (36, 38) of the blower during assembly. The blower includes a housing (12) defining generally cylindrical chambers containing the rotors having meshed, helical lobes (20c, 22c). The rotors are fixed to stepped diameter shafts (24, 26) pressed into stepped bores (20d, 22d) in the rotors. Straight splines on the shafts respectively form mating splines in the rotor bores and in the hub bore of timing gear (36). In a modified form of the blower, the straight splines form matting splines in both timing gears. The shafts are supported in the housing by fixed ball bearings (28, 30) at one end of the rotors and at the other end by ball bearing (32, 34) resiliently biased by springs which preload all four bearings. The fixture includes a base (202) having two surfaces (202f, 240a) for supporting ends (20b, 22b) of the rotors.

  • Patent number: 4637144
Abstract: The periphery of a selected crankpin is ground while the crankshaft rotates about an axis which is parallel to the axis of the crankpin. The decreasing diameter of the crankpin is monitored by one or more sensors which are connected with a detector serving to transmit signals to the controls of the grinding machine. Retention of the sensors in continuous contact with the circulating crankpin is ensured by an elongated guide which supports the sensors and the detector and is mounted on the piston rod of a cylinder. The latter is pivotable in a holder which is reciprocably or fixedly secured to the table or to the understructure of the frame of the grinding machine. A coil spring in the cylinder biases the piston and the piston rod in a direction to maintain the forward end of the guide in continuous contact with the periphery of the circulating crankpin.

  • Patent number: 4631833
Abstract: The present invention provides a guide for constructing brick corners in which the corner is constructed from a plurality of stacked brick layers which are spaced apart from each other by a joint. The guide includes at least one guide bracket having two wall sections which intersect each other at the same angle as the sides of the corner and the bracket is positioned against a partially constructed brick corner so that the wall sections flatly abut against opposite sides of the corner. A lip is formed along the top edge of each wall section and the lips are positioned on top of the top row of brick in the partially constructed corner. Several further rows of bricks are then laid on the corner so that the lip, and hence the guide bracket, is trapped within the joint between two brick layers. A pair of elongated rails are secured to the bracket so that the rails extend vertically and parallel to the corner.

  • Patent number: 4630381
Abstract: A coordinate measuring instrument wherein a measuring element is related to a work to be measured, and a configuration or the like of the work is measured from a displacement of this measuring element. In this measuring instrument, one of supports is supported by one of guide rails in a manner to be positionally adjustable in direction of X- and Z-axes and the other of the supports is supported in a manner to be displaceable only in a direction of one of the guide rails. A slider guide rail racked across the supports can be adjusted in its posture in the direction of X- and Z-axes by a posture adjusting mechanism provided on connecting portions between the slider rail and the supports. The slider guide rail thus adjusted in posture in non-displaceable in the moving direction of a slider in a state where adjustment members provided on the slider guide rail are closely abutted against abutting surfaces of the supports.
