  • Patent number: 6426783
Abstract: A reflection mode, ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulating system, includes a light reflecting type spatial light modulator. The spatial light modulator has a light reflecting surface cooperating with a layer of ferroelectric liquid crystal light modulating medium switchable between first and second states so as to act on light in different first and second ways, respectively. A switching arrangement switches the liquid crystal light modulating medium between the first and second states and an illumination arrangement produces a source of light. An optics arrangement is optically coupled the spatial light modulator and the illumination arrangement such that light is directed from the source of light into the spatial light modulator for reflection back out of the modulator and such that reflected light is directed from the spatial light modulator into a predetermined viewing area.

  • Patent number: 6421102
Abstract: Parasitic capacity between Cs lines and source lines forming a pixel section is reduced, whereby characteristic resistant to crosstalk is achieved, aperture ratio is increased, and brightness of LCD is increased. The Cs lines are arranged on the source lines in such a manner as to cover the source lines, and pixel electrodes are arranged and formed on the Cs lines in such a manner as to partially overlap. By forming a structure in which the source lines, the Cs lines and the pixel electrodes are laminated in order, parasitic capacity between the Cs lines and the source lines forming a pixel section can be reduced, and crosstalk can be minimized. As a distance between the source lines and the pixel electrodes can be reduced from the viewpoint of a plan view, aperture ratio can be improved.

Abstract: The present invention provides an active matrix type display device having a high aperture ratio and a required auxiliary capacitor. A source line and a gate line are overlapped with part of a pixel electrode. This overlapped region functions to be a black matrix. Further, an electrode pattern made of the same material as the pixel electrode is disposed to form the auxiliary capacitor by utilizing the pixel electrode. It allows a required value of auxiliary capacitor to be obtained without dropping the aperture ratio. Also, it allows the electrode pattern to function as a electrically shielding film for suppressing the cross-talk between the source and gate lines and the pixel electrode.
