  • Patent number: 5306132
Abstract: A process and a degassing unit for the degassing of plastic melt in a screw extruder in which a surface of the degassing unit facing the screws of the extruder are heated to prevent deposition of entrained plastic particles, particularly at the corners or edges of the degassing unit. Prior to the commencement of the treatment process, the degassing unit is heated to a temperature which is at least as high as the melting point of the plastic to be treated. Heating can be effected by conveying a heating medium through a channel in the degassing unit located in proximity to the surface facing the extrusion screws and especially the corner or edge regions.

  • Patent number: 5223280
Abstract: An apparatus for taking residual solid matter out of an extrusion head of an extruder includes a grasping device for grasping residual solid matter in the extrusion head, and a moving device for moving the grasping device between a grasping position in the extrusion head and an exhausting position on one side of the extrusion head. In order to remove the residual solid matter from the grasping device even if the solid matter firmly adheres to the grasping device, the apparatus further includes a disengaging device for urging the residual solid matter to disengage it from the grasping device when the grasping device has arrived at the exhausting position and released the residual solid matter. A control device is provided for controlling the grasping device, the moving device and the disengaging device.

  • Patent number: 5108711
Abstract: A multi-shaft thin-layer reactor for treating fluid materials in which gaseous material is present during such treatment. The treatment involves the addition of gas to the fluid material or the removal of gas therefrom. The reactor includes a housing in which a plurality of axis-parallel conveying shafts are disposed. The housing is cylindrical and the shafts are disposed around the inner periphery thereof in such a manner that each shaft meshes with the two shafts adjacent thereto. The meshing shafts jointly define the outer periphery of a treatment chamber within the housing. At least one sun-and-planet roller extrusion assembly rotates the shafts and is adjacent at least one end of the shafts in a form-locking manner. The conveying shafts also scrape against the internal wall of the housing so that thin layers of the fluid materials fed into the reactor are formed and these thin layers become disposed on the conveyor shafts.

  • Patent number: 5084282
Abstract: A texturing assembly for a machine for forming special brick shapes from extruded slugs of unfired material. The slugs are conveyed forward by conveyor(s) onto an elevator which lifts vertically. This lift pushes the slugs into opposing rollers. The rollers are arranged on opposing shafts spaced to produce vertical indentations in the slugs on 8-inch centers. The edges shaped by the rollers are the 4-inch long textured edges on the finished faces. At a convenient height above the rollers and on matching 8-inch centers are fixed horizontal wires. The cuts by the wires are centered in the indentations made by the opposing rollers. The cut and textured green paver brick rest on top of the slugs captive in the opposing rollers until lifted away by an automatic setting machine.

  • Patent number: 5020984
Abstract: The present invention provides an extrusion apparatus having an improved mechanism for thermally-controlled, lip gap adjustment. The apparatus includes a flow path for a gaseous cooling medium, in which flow path a plurality of temperature-responsive, lip gap adjustment members are disposed. Structurally associated with each such adjustment member is a heating wire.

  • Patent number: 5013229
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a particle mat for the production of particleboard has a transport belt having a stretch moving in a longitudinal transport direction and forming a deposition surface in turn defining a floor of a deposition space, a dispenser upwardly delimiting the space and including a dispensing roller for depositing particles as a mat in the space on the longitudinal moving deposition surface, a pair of transversely spaced and longitudinally extending upper guides extending in the space generally at the dispenser, and a pair of transversely spaced and longitudinally extending lower guides extending in the space underneath the respective upper guides and generally at the deposition surface. A pair of longitudinally extending, continuous, and transversely spaced flexible sheets each extend the full longitudinal length of the deposition space and have an inner edge secured to one of the guides of a respective one of the pairs of guides and an outer edge.
