  • Patent number: 9764354
Abstract: Methods, processes, compositions and systems for preventing leaching effects from water pipes (such as lead, steel and copper) having an inner diameter of at least approximately 12 mm. 2-part thermoset resin coating is applied to the inner surfaces of the pipes where the curing agent can be a phenol free and plasticizer free adduct type. The coating can reduce heavy metals, such as lead, from leaching from installed pipes to less than approximately 10 ?g/L (10 ppb). When cured, specific leachates, Bisphenol A and Epichlorohydrin from the coatings will be (less than) <1 ?g/L (1 ppb) with overall TOC levels measured at (less than) <2.5 mg/L (2.5 ppm). Pipes can be returned to service within approximately 24 hours, and preferably within approximately 4 hours.

  • Patent number: 9757758
Abstract: Processes and devices useful in the application of coatings (14) to the interior of tubes (10) are described. Such processes (40, 400) may include applying a layer (20) of coating fluid (18) to the internal surface (16) of the tube (10) and passing a smoothing member (22) through the tube (10) at a distance from the internal surface (16). The viscosity of the coating fluid (18) may be selected so that the layer (20) of coating fluid (18) has a thickness substantially equal to or in excess of a predetermined wet film thickness (Twf) correlated to a desired final thickness (Tf) of the coating (14). The distance between the smoothing member (22) and the internal surface (16) may substantially correspond to the predetermined wet film thickness (Twf). The smoothing member (22) may smooth the coating fluid (18) and remove coating fluid (18) in excess of the wet film thickness (Twf) from the internal surface (16).

  • Patent number: 9752232
Abstract: Tubulars are immersed in electroless nickel coating solution to coat the tubulars. Prior to the coating step the tubulars are blasted with a clean medium and washed and rinsed in alkaline solution. The tubulars are arranged in a bunk for washing, rinsing and coating. LLDPE stretch wrap applied to outer portions of the tubulars prevents coating of the outer portions. The tubulars are electrically separated from the bunk and the coating solution tank, and the tank is provided with anodic protection to prevent coating of the tank. The bunk is provided with a header assembly to provide solution flow through the tubulars via nozzles on the header assembly in addition to flow caused by the vortex effect created by velocity of fluid exiting the nozzles. The bunk is arranged in the solution tank so that the tubulars are at an angle to horizontal to efficiently remove hydrogen gas. Solution flow to the header assembly is filtered to remove particulates.
