  • Patent number: 6011938
Abstract: To improve the fixing ability in the fixing device, and simultaneously prevent hot offset occurring during continuous fixing process. In the interior of a cored bar of a heat roll is mounted a heater lamp, and by controlling the power supplied to said heater lamp, heat roll is maintained at a first set temperature enabling heat fix. To this heater lamp is pressed a pressurization roll formed by covering a cover layer to a cored bar, which forms a fixing device. The heat roll is controlled and maintained at the first set temperature T.sub.1 at the initial fixing process, and when performing a continuous fixing process, it is switched and controlled to a second set temperature T.sub.2 lower than the first set temperature but enabling fixing. Thereby, the fixing ability could be maintained well, preventing hot offset.

  • Patent number: 6009299
Abstract: A developing roller rotates in contact with a photoreceptor drum. The developing roller controls a development thorough the formation of a toner layer 50 .mu.m or less in thickness on an outer surface. The photoreceptor drum transfers a toner image formed on the outer surface by the controlled-development onto a medium. A fixation device heat-treats and fixes the toner image transferred onto the medium. A toner for the developing treatment comprises a resin having a Tg of 75.degree. C. or more as at least part of it.

  • Patent number: 6006051
Abstract: An electrophotographic apparatus employing a self-heat-emitting heating roller capable of causing current to flow through a heat emitting resistor at a time of turning on a power supply until a maximum electric power to be consumed in the electrophotographic apparatus, to thereby shorten a rising-up time of the heating-roller fixing apparatus. The drive starting temperature is previously set and the heat emitting resistor is selected so as to satisfy the following inequalities:V.sup.2 /R.sub.3 .ltoreq./V.sup.2 /R.sub.2 <W.sub.max -W.sub.m .ltoreq.W.sub.1 <V.sup.2 /R.sub.0 .ltoreq.W.sub.max -W.sub.s.An image forming apparatus included in the above-mentioned electrophotographic apparatus prevents an excessive current flowing through the fixing apparatus in a case of turning on the power supply on a condition that the temperature in the apparatus does not rise up sufficiently, and thereby the apparatus is not damaged. Such an apparatus can be provided at a low cost.

  • Patent number: 5999773
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image bearing member and a contact-charging member which contacts a surface of the image bearing member. The contact-charging member can charge the image bearing member by applying a predetermined voltage to the contact-charging member so that a potential of the contact-charging member is changed to a required potential for transferring a residual toner that is stuck on a surface of the contact-charging member facing the image bearing member onto the image bearing member while the image bearing member stops rotating. A method for removing residual toner sticking onto a contact-charging member that contacts a surface of the image bearing member changes a potential of the contact charging member to a required cleaning potential for transferring the residual toner sticking to a surface of the contact-charging member facing the image bearing member onto the contact-charging member while the image bearing member stops rotating.
