  • Patent number: 6593907
Abstract: A distal mechanism for providing three degrees of freedom for a rotating handle. Three stages provide a serial mechanical linkage between a handle and a platform, which may itself be moveable in three degrees of freedom. Each stage has an axis of rotation, and the three axes intersect. The first stage is mounted to the platform in such a way as to provide rotation about the first stage axis. The first stage carries the second, allowing the second stage to rotate about its axis. The second stage carries the third stage, allowing the third stage to rotate about its axis. The third stage is fixed to the handle, and the third stage axis passes along the length of the handle. Each stage has a sensor to measure its rotation, and a tendon means of transferring torque from a remote motor to torque about the rotation axis of the respective stage. The sensors have two limited angle ranges of measurement, about 110 degrees wide and on opposite sides of the rotation.

  • Patent number: 6583773
Abstract: A display drive mechanism for vehicle slidingly moves a display assembly between a stored position and a projected position by the drive force of a motor. The display drive mechanism comprises a rotating body which is rotationally driven by the motor. A projecting portion for example projects from the rotating body at a position eccentric to its axis of rotation. A long slot in the display assembly is engaged with the projecting portion. The display assembly is driven to and fro in both directions between the stored position and the projected position, as the rotating body rotates.

  • Patent number: 6577288
Abstract: A flat panel display device having a structure for preventing a liquid crystal display from being damaged by outside impact incurred against a front case, and for preventing a foreign substance from entering the flat panel display device between the front case and glass at a front side of the liquid crystal display, and having an improved appearance as a gap between the front case and the glass of the liquid crystal display is minimized.

  • Patent number: 6570557
Abstract: A multi-touch system is disclosed that recognizes simultaneous touchdown of four fingers on, above, or below the home row of keys as a modifier chord and applies modifiers such as Shift, Ctrl, or Alt to subsequent touch activity until none of the chord fingertips remain touching. Touches by the thumb of the modifier chord hand that occur before any modifiable typing or clicking activity cause the modifier chord to be canceled and reinterpreted as hand resting. The Shift modifier may be released temporarily during thumb keypresses that are intermixed with typing of capitalized characters. Distributing the modifier chord touches across different zones or key rows selects multiple modifiers. In an alternative embodiment, different modifiers can be selected with different arrangements of the fingers relative to one another within the chord, irrespective of absolute hand alignment with the touch surface.

  • Patent number: 6184855
Abstract: An analog driver for a liquid crystal display has sample hold circuits and buffer amplifiers divided into one group for positive inputs and the other groups for negative inputs which buffer amplifiers are selected in accordance with a first and second control signals thereby reducing the power consumption by the driver of buffer amplifiers. Furthermore, when none of the buffer amplifiers are selected, the data lines are held at common voltage to reduce the consumed power by the buffer amplifiers.
