Abstract: Disclosed is a bag including a front wall and a rear wall and having an open mouth portion in which the front wall and rear wall are joined by pleated portions or gussets. The bag is manufactured so that a longitudinal, thermally welded seam is placed inside a portion of at least one of the gussets at a point other than the central fold. The bag preferably includes handles which are integral extensions of the front and rear walls and the gussets. The bag manufactured according to the principles of the present invention thus eliminates or minimizes failure of thermally welded seams. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing the bags and an apparatus for manufacturing the bags.

  • Patent number: 4917663
Abstract: A packaging machine and more particularly a machine for setting up a container from a blank (16) of corrugated board is disclosed as including a uniquely arranged magazine (10) for a plurality of container blanks (16) of corrugated board and including a structure to directly set up the shape of the container in a controlled manner for enabling a product to be easily loaded and for subsequent processing by the packaging machine. The unique direct setup arrangement utilizes arcuately moving arms (24) with vacuum cups (26) thereon which attach themselves to a blank (16) in the magazine (10) and move through an arc of less than 90.degree. from a vertically inclined position to a generally horizontal position. The arms (24) and blank (16) are then moved horizontally so that the side edge portions of the major panel (18) of the blank (16), such as the bottom panel, are positioned under horizontal flap guides (74).

  • Patent number: 4914992
Abstract: The device comprises a box-like body inside which two shoes are slideable and are actuated in opposition. A shoe is compsed of a plate which has a guiding opening for a gib of the other shoe. Brackets are rigidly and protrudingly associated with the top of the gib and with the lower end of the plate and bear respective jaws which are adapted, in jaw closure position, to define a guiding duct for a bar and, in opening position, a passage for the bar-pusher. The opposite actuation of the shoes is actuated by a shaft controlled by a fluidodynamic jack having arms which bear wheels acting between the bracket supported by the gib and a protrusion of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4914993
Abstract: The device for controlling the facing of a bar on an automatic lathe for machining bars, comprises a bar-pusher actuated by a traction element to cause the advancement of a bar towards the lathe, a carriage slideable on a guide parallel to the traction element, a hook for intercepting the carriage in a bar loading position, a clutch adapted to keep the bar-pusher rigidly associated with the carriage when the carriage is free to slide on the guide and to allow the bar-pusher to move with respect to the carriage when the carriage is intercepted. The hook is controlled by a sensor adapted to detect the end of a bar to be machined at the entry point of the lathe and to control the hook during free sliding of the carriage. A further sensor is provided to actuate the bar-pusher in the bar facing position.

  • Patent number: 4909677
Abstract: A throw away cutting tool comprising a holder formed with a wedge groove and a throw away insert having a cutting edge at one end thereof and a wedge portion at the outer end, the wedge portion being adapted to be clamped in the wedge groove by elasticity of the material of the holder. The holder is at least partly made of cemented carbide for higher rigidity and cutting stability. Also, the radius of curvature at the deep end of the wedge groove is optimized for crack resistance. Further, the angle of the V-ridge on the holder is interrelated to the angle of the V-groove in the insert for more holding stability and crack resistance.
