Abstract: A digital magazine server user may identify a content item presented by the digital magazine server to save or present to other digital magazine server users by interacting with a client device presenting the content item. For example, providing a gesture to the client device identifies a content item for presentation to other digital magazine server users. The gesture may begin by the user interacting with a portion of a display device that displays a portion of the content item and continue as the user interacts with the display device along a path from the portion to an additional portion. When the gesture is completed, the user may be presented with options to present the content item to additional digital magazine server users, or the content item may be presented to other digital magazine server users.

Abstract: Presenting content within an application on a device is disclosed. Receiving notification of new content within an application at a device is disclosed. Presenting the received notification at the device is disclosed. Receiving a selection of the notification, and displaying the new content in the screen directly following receiving the selection of the notification are disclosed. Notification can be received outside the application, e.g., by posting notification on a social network, posting notification to a web site, and posting a message to a user's avatar in a virtual world. A selection can be received while the device is offline, in which case the new content displayed is that content stored on the device.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for generating and updating media playlists in response to playback alteration operations performed by a user. For example, a media guidance application may generate a media playlist accessible during a set time period (e.g., from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM), which has a one hour play length. If a playback alteration operation (e.g., a pause or fast-forward operation) occurs during the playback of the media playlist, the media guidance application updates (e.g., by adding or removing content) the media playlist such that the media playlist has a play length that concludes by the end of the set time period (e.g., 8:00 PM).

Abstract: A method for personalizing content for a particular user in a computing system comprising a user interface configured to display content. The method comprises identifying one or more features of a short term profile of a user that are not included in a long term profile of the user, using the one or more features to identify one or more third party profiles having features that substantially match the one or more features of the user's short term profile, accessing the identified one or more third party profiles, and providing one or more content items included in the third party profile to the user, the one or more content items having associated features that match the one or more features of the short term profile. An alternative method comprises accessing one or more third party profiles that are not a profile of the user, and using the accessed third party profile to identify a plurality of content items for recommendation to the user based on a feature set of the third party profile.

Abstract: A method of providing an interactive content to a prospective user at a mobile device, the mobile device including a non-transitory computer readable medium including a computer executable program code and a processor for executing the computer executable program code is described. The method includes steps for initiating capture of an audio stream by shaking the mobile device; capturing the audio stream via a microphone in the mobile device; converting the captured audio stream into an audio fingerprint; sending the audio fingerprint to a server; receiving the interactive content from the server if there is a match between audio fingerprints stored on the server, and the audio fingerprint sent by the mobile device; and displaying the interactive content on the mobile device.

Abstract: Techniques for initiating a shared electronic browsing session for a plurality of users are described herein. A computing device may initiate the session and associate browsing and chat activity of the users with the session to enable at least one of real-time, joint browsing and chat or asynchronous browsing and chat. Further, the computing device may determine a social graph for one of the users based on the session and may recommend items to the user based on content browsing and chat activities of users included in the social graph.

Abstract: A system for indicating the unavailability of an already uploaded video file is provided. The system includes an advertiser system providing a graphical user interface for uploading a video file to a database and an ad serving system communicatively coupled to the database that receives the uploaded video file. A creative asset processing system is communicatively coupled to the ad serving system and advertiser system and receives the uploaded video file to process the uploaded video file by performing bit rate encoding on the uploaded video file. The bit rate encoding generates a plurality of encoded video files of the uploaded video file having respective bitrates. The advertiser system displays a set of menu options on the graphical user interface for each of the encoded video files.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing calculations in a character input mode of an electronic device. Character input is received in the character input mode, and input characters are displayed in a character input window. If determined that an arithmetic expression is present in the displayed input characters, the arithmetic expression is evaluated, and an evaluation result is displayed. A calculation enabling condition may be satisfied prior to, or after, the arithmetic expression identification. The method may be applied to character input modes of a text messaging or email application, or of a word processing application.

Abstract: Computer software allowing enhanced control of the playout of audio/video works on a computer system. In various embodiments, the software allows key events from dedicated audio/video keys, whether part of a full sized keyboard or on a hand held remote, to control the actions of an audio/video playout program without requiring the user to direct the key event focus of the operating system to the audio/video playout program. Also, the invention distinguishes between key presses from a local, full sized keyboard and key presses from a remote keyboard so that the audio/video playout program can enlarge its screen display when a key event is received from the remote keyboard. In one embodiment, the invention constantly instructs the operating system to move the focus to the audio/video playout program. In another embodiment, if the focus is received by any of various windows in a display, software associated with the window forwards to the audio/video playout program any key events received from audio/video keys.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for analyzing unstructured time stamped data of a physical process in order to generate structured hierarchical data for a hierarchical time series analysis application. A plurality of time series analysis functions are selected from a functions repository. Distributions of time stamped unstructured data are analyzed to identify a plurality of potential hierarchical structures for the unstructured data with respect to the selected time series analysis functions.

Abstract: A computer-based system identifies, measures, and rewards user interaction with online content, such as customer interaction with online content posted by companies about their products and services. The system tracks user activity online, such as user activity on online social networking systems and on web sites. For each user and company, the system generates a profile that contains data representing the user's interaction with the company's online content. The system may use such profiles to search for users who are similar to a particular user, to drive social gesture advertising to amplify the actions of users, to highlight particular users for other users to discover and connect with, and to deliver targeted promotions and to incent online engagement by users.

Abstract: A system and method are described for creating photo stories using video. The method includes receiving a user request to upload a user-specified video stream; determining whether the video stream meets one or more predetermined requirements, uploading the video stream; analyzing the video stream to select video frames for extraction based on a set of predetermined frame selection criteria; extracting the selected video frames from the video image; selecting a story book template to be used with the video images; and generating a preview of the story book template with the video images within a graphical user interface, the user editing the story book template with text and/or moving or modifying the video frames within the preview.

Abstract: A log analytics graphical user interface enables a user to dynamically extract and define a field from unstructured log data. The log analytics module automatically determines a definition for a field based on log text selected by the user. A portion of each log message is highlighted to reflect what the extracted field may be to assist users with understanding if input parameters are selected the intended log data. Changes to the definition of the field, by the user, may cause further highlighting that to indicate an incomplete or erroneous field definition.
