  • Patent number: 5536098
Abstract: A bearing assembly for a wheel hub/constant velocity universal joint unit which includes a double-row bearing which has a one-piece outer bearing ring to be connected to a wheel carrier. The bearing inner bearing rings are directly formed by the wheel hub, on the one hand, and by the outer part of the constant velocity universal joint, on the other hand. The parts non-rotatingly engage one another in a form-fitting way and are axially tensioned relative to one another, with the wheel hub, on the one hand, and the outer part of the constant velocity universal joint, on the other hand, including form-fitting engaging mechanism, which are adapted to one another and which enable the two parts to be connected in only one single angular position relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 5533886
Abstract: A membrane pump has a housing which includes a pump head provided with an internal recess. The pump head is further provided with an inlet opening and an outlet opening which communicate with the recess and are disposed next to one another near an edge of the housing. A membrane extends across the recess and is clamped at its edges by the housing. The membrane and recess together define a pumping chamber. A segment of the membrane is held stationary against the pump head by a clamping finger and forms a seal with the pump head. The seal extends radially between the inlet and outlet openings from the periphery of the pumping chamber to its center. A drive successively urges circumferrentially successive segments of the unconfined part of the membrane into sealing engagement with the pump head to thus direct fluid from the inlet opening to the outlet opening.

  • Patent number: 5529463
Abstract: A pumping apparatus which is particularly useful in catheterization procedures has two pumps supported in a parallel arrangement. The pumps are engaged by an actuating rod connected to a power cylinder which reciprocates longitudinally between the two pumps. The two pumps are held within the housing such that only the plunger element of one pump is capable of movement in response to the actuating member while only the barrel element of the other pump is capable of movement in response to the actuating member. By way of this linkage, during movement of the actuating rod, one pump performs a pumping stroke while the other pump performs a suction stroke.

  • Patent number: 5524980
Abstract: A medicine cabinet organizing insert comprised of a rectangular frame having a side wall, top wall and bottom walls with one side of the frame being open. A vertical divider in the rectangular frame divides the organizing insert into two vertical compartments. One compartment divided into approximately 60% of the organizer has a plurality of adjustable shelves. Two of the shelves have specially designed slots for storing particular toilet articles. The open side of the rectangular frame has scored areas to remove a portion of the frame for fitting narrower designed existing medicine cabinets. The medicine cabinet organizer is easily installed in existing medicine cabinets to replace existing shelves. With the shelves removed, the organizer may be simply placed in the opened cavity of existing medicine cabinets and secured with double faced adhesive tape or installed with mounting screws.

  • Patent number: 5517817
Abstract: The present invention is a variable area turbine nozzle for use in a turbine engine. The variable area turbine nozzle adjusts the positions of its vanes to insure efficient operation of the turbine engine. The vanes rotate about bearing assemblies that are air cooled to extend the operating life of the bearing assemblies. Each vane is cantilevered off journal bearings outside the outer casing which carry moment loads while ball bearings take all radial loads for ease of rotation. This design provides long running time of the turbine nozzles without frequent overhaul.

  • Patent number: 5518334
Abstract: Disclosed is a hinge connecting mechanism for connecting a connector housing to a lid in a hinged fashion via a hinge portion integrally molded with the connector housing with a small thickness. The hinge connecting mechanism assures that a malfunction does not arise where the hinge portion is undesirably broken or torn away from the container as the lid is repeatedly opened and closed. A plate member connected to a connector housing in a hinged fashion includes a hinge extension having the same width as that of a hinge portion, while extending in continuation from the hinge portion. The hinge extension is formed on a surface of the plate member adapted to face an upper wall of the connector housing when the plate member is closed.

  • Patent number: 5509791
Abstract: A pump for use in a bath of reactive molten metal such as zinc has a graphite rotor, driven at constant speed, and capable of pumping molten metal at selective rates from the bath. The pump includes an internal delivery flow path and protected drive shaft, so that the liquid metal of the bath is not turbulated by the rotating shaft, and the temperature of the metal within the pump, during semi-quiescent periods is maintained substantially constant. The pump has a robust structure and yet can handle rates as low as 10 to 15 pounds per minute, in contrast to usual types of pumps that require pumping about 80 pounds per minute, and being speed controlled, are less accurate in their delivery rates. An adjustable control for regulating flow rate during operation also is provided.

  • Patent number: 5507585
Abstract: A mounting for a windshield wiper pivot shaft on a vehicle body panel supports the shaft for rotation about an axis of the panel. The mounting includes a transmission housing adapted to be rotatably seated on a first side of the panel. A key on the transmission housing and an associated keyway in the panel limits housing rotation in a first direction to a mounting position wherein an axis of the housing is aligned with the axis of the panel. The key has a retention surface which engages the panel to limit axial movement between the housing and the panel when the housing is in the mounting position, thereby passively retaining the housing to the panel. In one embodiment, a plurality of screws are installed from a second side of the panel opposite the first side and threadingly engage the housing. The screws are tightened in the first direction to rigidly fix the transmission housing to the panel, thereby maintaining the housing in the mounting position.

  • Patent number: 5507627
Abstract: An oscillating-plate type compressor has five cylinder bores 6 formed in a cylinder block 1. Coolant gas compressed in the cylinder bores is discharged to a discharge chamber 12 through discharge valves 17 secured to the cylinder block 1 by means of a bolt 19. The discharge chamber 12 is separated by a baffle plate 14 into two discharge spaces 12a and 12b, the former containing a bolt head 19a and the latter communicating with the discharge port. Five holes 14a to 14e which are the same in number as that of the cylinder bores 6 are formed and arranged along an imaginary circle of a predetermined diameter around the bolt facing portion 28 of the baffle plate 14 so as to communicate both of the discharge spaces 12a and 12b with each other.

  • Patent number: 5501579
Abstract: An axial multi-piston compressor includes a drive shaft, a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed therein and surrounding the drive shaft, and a plurality of pistons slidably received in the respective cylinder bores, wherein the pistons are successively reciprocated in the cylinder bores by a rotation of the drive shaft so that a suction stroke and a discharge stroke are alternately executed in each of the cylinder bores. During the suction stroke, a fluid is introduced into the cylinder bore, and during the compression stroke, the introduced fluid is compressed and discharged from the cylinder bore such that a residual part of the compressed fluid is inevitably left in the cylinder bore when the compression stroke is finished. The compressor further includes a rotary valve for allowing the residual part of the compressed fluid to escape from the cylinder bore into another cylinder bore after the suction stroke is executed in the former cylinder bore over a given short period of time.
