    Abstract: An oral or topical composition having tanning and sun-screening activity, and the cosmetic uses thereof, are disclosed. The composition regulates skin pigmentation and includes carotenoids. Said composition essentially contains a component (a) consisting of at least one natural carotenoid having provitamin A activity, and selected from the group which consists of .beta.-carotene and/or .alpha.-carotene, and a component (b) corresponding to at least one natural carotenoid having no provitamin A activity, and consisting of lycopene, optionally in combination with a further component (b) selected from the group which consists of zeaxanthine, cryptoxanthine and lutein or a mixture thereof. The ratio of components (a) to lycopene is from 0.95:1 to 1:50.

    Abstract: The adherent coating of the invention comprises a stabilizing polymer together with an active agent (a hydrophilic polymer and/or a bioactive agent) in a layer bonded to the surface of a medical device. This invention encompasses the coating liquids used for coating medical devices, methods of coating the devices, and the coated devices. The stabilizing polymer is selected to entrap the active agent in a coating that has a high degree of flexibility and has improved bonding to a wide variety of substrates. Preferred stabilizing polymers are cross-linkable acrylic and methacrylic polymers, ethylene acrylic acid copolymers, styrene acrylic copolymers, vinyl acetate polymers and copolymers, vinyl acetal polymers and copolymers, epoxy, melamine, other amino resins, phenolic polymers, copolymers thereof, and combinations.

    Abstract: A shaped crystalline deodorant is made from mixture of a mineral salt and water which is heated above the melting point of the salt, placed in a mold having the desired shape, and crystalized after insertion of an internally threaded member into the mixture. The deodorant has an oval cross-sectional shape with the insert imbedded therewithin and is secured into a container. The container includes a threaded stem attached to the container for rotational movement which is translated to axial movement of the deodorant with respect to the container. The threaded stem cooperates with the internally threaded insert to allow the crystallized deodorant to be moved up or down within the container by rotating the threaded stem.

The hard core is formed from a mixture of particulate cementitious material and liquid.

One such method involves stabilizing an aqueous solution of an enhanced efficacy antiperspirant salt by adding an effective amount of a polyhydric alcohol having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms and from 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups. A second disclosed method involves preparing an enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt by heating an aqueous solution of an aluminum antiperspirant salt in the presence of a polyhydric alcohol having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms and from 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups at a temperature of at least 50.degree. C. for a time sufficient to convert the salt to an enhanced salt.
