Abstract: Commercially available platforms with performance characteristics are linked with network systems via standardized interfaces. Such a link, however, requires major interventions in the structure of said system. The inventive method reduces the necessary steps by means of a message-based concentration on the network bandwidth or a multiple thereof and a line-based concentration on the bandwidth of one of the peripherals during communication, thereby scheduling at least one interface of the allocated control device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for creating, modifying, interacting with and playing music are provided, particularly systems and methods employing a top-down process, where the user is provided with a musical composition that may be modified and interacted with and played and/or stored (for later play), and particularly in a form that may be employed in one or a plurality of music generation music that provide on-hold music to callers that are put on-hold in a telephony environment. The system preferably is provided in a handheld form factor, and a graphical display is provided to display status information, graphical representations of musical lanes or components which preferably vary in shape as musical parameters and the like are changed for particular instruments or musical components such as a microphone input or audio samples.

Abstract: A video transmission system for facilitating transmission of video and control signals, particularly infrared remote control signals, between different locations in a residence using existing telephone wiring. Simultaneous transmission of signals of both types over active telephone lines is possible without interference with telephone communications. Transmission succeeds without requiring special treatement of the video signals beyond RF conversion, despite signal attenuation inherent in transmission over the telephone line media. Two or more video sources may be tied into the system, and selected as desired. Remote control signals generated in one room may be utilized without requiring a clear line of sight between the remote control device and the receiver.

Abstract: A system and method for acoustic source location using a horizontal and vertical microphone array. Tilt sensors are provided within each array to allow full determination of the tilt of each array. Based on the acoustic source location results, an image capture device may be maneuvered to focus in the direction of the acoustic source location.

Abstract: The invention comprises a structured light projector, a video camera, and an image processor, for achieving perspective corrected images that enhance eye-contact during teleconferencing. A structured light projector is offset in one direction from the monitor center, and illuminates a local participant with a structured light pattern. The image of the local participant, illuminated by both ambient and structured light, is captured by the video camera, also offset from the monitor center, preferably in the direction opposite the structured light projector. By considering the distortion of the structured light observed from the position of the video camera and the position of the structured light projector and video camera relative to the monitor center, an image processor creates an image of the local participant as viewed from a perspective that, when viewed by the remote participant, provides a sense of eye contact with the local participant.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for coupling a voiceband modem circuit to a common phoneline connector, the common phoneline connection having a ring line connection and a tip line connection which couples a ring/tip line pair to a subscriber loop circuit, the voiceband modem circuit operating in a voiceband modem operating frequency band and having a voiceband modem interface ring line and a voiceband modem interface tip line. The voiceband modem interface ring line is coupled to the ring line and the voiceband modem interface tip line is coupled to the tip line connection by inserting, between the ring line connection and the voiceband modem interface ring line and between the tip line connection and the voiceband modem interface tip line, a series pair of inductors. A first inductor of the series pair has a low inductance and a high self-resonant frequency and a second inductor of the series pair has a high inductance and low self-resonant frequency.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for activating an electronic lock in an intelligent switched telecommunications network having a plurality of Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) components. A call is received from a device communicating with the telecommunications network. The call is from a calling party to a called party. Processing of the call within the telecommunications network is suspended. A database is queried for a telephone number of the called party. The database stores telephone numbers of called parties subscribing to a lock service provided by a telecommunications service provider. The lock service allows a user to remotely activate an electronic lock using the telecommunications network. If the query is successful, processing of the call within the telecommunications network is resumed. The call is used to activate the electronic lock.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for securely transferring information in a communications system. Signals are generated by a communications keypad. In response to receiving an input indicating activation of a secure data transfer mode, these signals are converted from the communications keypad into speech signals, and the speech signals are transmitted to a receiving party.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a mobile terminal device with a camera, in which orientation of the camera can be easily adjusted in association with opening and closing motions of an upper case, and the camera can be protected from the exterior in association with a motion for folding the cases of the mobile terminal device, after photographing operation of the camera has been finished. The mobile terminal device with a camera according to the present invention includes a lower case 1 provided with an operating part, an upper case 2 provided with a display part, a hinge part 3 for connecting the upper case 2 with the lower case 1 in a foldable manner, and a photographing part 6 rotatably an association mechanism 7 by which the photographing part 6 is rotated in association with opening and closing motions of the upper case 2.

Abstract: A system (10) and method (40) are provided permitting cookie files to be used with telephonic customer premises equipment (CPE) (12). The caller CPE (12) can be an intelligent telephone adapted to generate, store, transmit and receive cookie files. The cookie files can include information tokens describing a caller profile. The CPE (12) can provide a template cookie file upon request from a called party during a conversation between the caller and called party. The template file can then be transmitted to the called party and modified. The modified cookie file can then be returned to the caller CPE (12) for future use during subsequent calls to the called party. The cookie file can reduce the processing time of calls placed to automated dial-up service centers and also reduces its computer resources required by the service system.

Abstract: A method for real-time video communication. Specifically, one embodiment of the present invention discloses a method of video conferencing that captures a plurality of real-time video streams of a local participant from a plurality of sample viewpoints. From the plurality of video streams, a new view synthesis technique can be applied to generate a video image stream in real-time of the local participant rendered from a second location of a second participant with respect to a first location of the local participant in a coordinate space of a virtual environment. A change in either of the locations leads to the modifying of the video image stream, thereby enabling real-time video communication from the local participant to the second participant.

Abstract: An architecture and technique for creating self-installable and portable telephony (dial tone) service that can be moved between any two locations that has access to both a voice communication network and a data network. A telephony adapter is used as a subscriber premises device that is connected between a conventional telephone set and both a voice network and a data network. A provisioning server communicates with the telephony adapter through the data network and maintains a record of the subscriber's local telephone number and IP address of the telephony adapter. As the subscriber moves from one location to another, the telephony adapter (once turned “on”) will communicate with the provisioning server and re-establish phone service, always using the same local phone number of the subscriber.

Abstract: A telephone apparatus of the present invention comprises a telephone number comparator for comparing a telephone number included in caller information delivered from caller identification delivery service with a telephone number registered in an electronic telephone directory, and displays the telephone number registered in the electronic telephone directory in display unit when the telephone numbers match at least in part as a result of the comparison. The telephone apparatus is thus able to display a correct telephone number of the incoming call and dial the telephone number correctly when making a callback.

Abstract: A method and system of matching a bit rate to a transmit bit rate used to transmit data on a data link are disclosed. A bit pattern in data received on the data link is detected using a bit rate. Where the detected bit pattern comprises one of a plurality of expected bit patterns, the bit rate is adjusted to an adjusted bit rate based on the detected bit pattern. In one embodiment, the adjusted bit rate is used for communications on the data link when a confirmation bit pattern is received within a predetermined time after the data is received.

Abstract: An apparatus and system for improving the projection of a remote conferee's presence and improving eye contact between the remote video conferee and proximate conferee during a videoconference is disclosed. The image of the remote conferee's face is shown on a video monitor with a camera located along the eye level of the image of the remote conferee's face, and within the interocular distance of about 1.5 inches to 3 inches. A feedback screen showing the image of the proximate video conferee is also located near the camera and preferably within the interocular distance. Because the camera is within the interocular distance the proximate conferee will appear, to the remote conferee, to be looking at the eyes of the remote conferee when looking at the monitor, because the camera is within the interocular distance. This will be accentuated when the proximate conferee uses the feedback image, which is near the camera.

Abstract: A system configured to deliver wireline messages to terminating stations, such as telephones, using a conventional public switched telephone network (PSTN). The wireline messages may be composed of text, ring tones, or other items. The wireline messages may be created using modified conventional telephones, mobile telephones, personal computers and the like. The wireline messages are stored within a wireline message database associated with a conventional service control point (SCP) contained in an Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). The wireline messages are delivered to a terminating station, such as a wireline telephone, after a trigger has been actuated. Wireline messages composed of text are displayed on a display screen incorporated within the terminating station or electrically coupled to the terminating station. Wireline messages composed of ring tones are played to alert a called party that an incoming call has been placed from a particular directory number.

Abstract: The present invention provides a wireless video/audio transmission device for bi-directional communications, which comprises an emitting device and a receiving device. The emitting device comprises a 2.4 GHz or 5.7 GHz emitting module and a UHF receiving module. The receiving device comprises a 2.4 GHz or 5.7 GHz receiving module and a UHF emitting module. Video, audio, and a digital control instruction are emitted out by the emitting module after signal processing and transmitted to the receiving module. The receiving module is used to demodulate and convert the signal into a video, an audio, and an output control instruction. A control instruction and an analog audio signal are mixed and modulated by the UHF emitting module and emitted out to the UHF receiving module, thereby demodulating and converting the signal into an audio signal and an output instruction.

Abstract: A communication system is disclosed including a first digital telephone set, a second digital telephone set, or its processing equivalent, having a private branch exchange (PBX)-paging server interface, and a PBX operative between the first digital telephone set and the second digital telephone set, wherein the second digital telephone set transmits text messages received from the first digital telephone set to a paging server via the PBX-paging server interface and wherein the paging server transmits the text messages to a pager.

A telepay system of the present invention provides an interface between a standard touchtone telephone and at least one debit card network such that real-time bill payment transactions may be effected using a keypad of the telephone. The telepay system includes an interactive voice response unit for prompting a payor to enter an access code, account number, debit card number and payment amount and for informing the user of the status of the transaction. Real-time processing of transactions is provided through use of debit card networks, rather than the Automated Clearing House. The telepay system is also capable of performing settlement functions and processing inquiries by payees of the system regarding previously processed transactions.
