  • Patent number: 7693946
Abstract: Disclosed is a communication apparatus in which it is possible to change the size of data transmitted at one time, the data size being changed to one size in case of transmission of e-mail via a mail server and to different size in case of transmission that is not performed via a mail server. E-mail data having image data as an attached file is generated and it is determined whether a predetermined server will intervene when e-mail is transmitted to a transmission destination. When it has been decided that the destination will be a mail server, it is determined whether the e-mail data has exceeded a prescribed size. E-mail data for which it has been determined that the prescribed size is exceeded is divided into a plurality of segments and then the e-mail data is transmitted to destination decided.

  • Patent number: 7680904
Abstract: A computer network, method, and control unit provide two transmitters and two receivers connected to a server and workstations. The workstations are serially connected by transmit and receive paths. The transmitters are connected to opposing ends of the transmit path and the receivers are connected to opposing ends of the receive path. The first transmitter and receiver are enabled and the second transmitter and receiver are disabled during a first phase of a breakage diagnostic mode. The first transmitter transmits a first test sequence and the first receiver receives first acknowledgement sequences. The first transmitter and receiver are disabled and the second transmitter and receiver are enabled during a second phase. The second transmitter transmits a second test sequence and the second receiver receives a quantity of second acknowledgement sequences, which is compared to the quantity of first acknowledgement sequences to determine whether there is a discontinuity in the network.

  • Patent number: 7668961
Abstract: The present invention leverages a unilaterally-based interaction contract that enables applications to have a persistent state and ensures an exactly-once execution despite failures between and by communicating entities, permitting disparate software applications to be robustly supported in an environment where little is known about the implementation of the interaction contract. In one instance of the present invention, a web services interaction contract provides a communicating application with duplicate commit request elimination, persistent state transitions, and/or unique persistent reply requests. The present invention permits this interaction contract to be supported by, for example, a persistent application, a workflow, a transaction queue, a database, and a file system to facilitate in providing idempotent executions for requests from a communicating application.

  • Patent number: 7475131
Abstract: A method for displaying an access path between a virtual volume of a storage controller that has an external storage connecting function, and an external volume of an external storage system. By this method, port connection information about an access path defined between the virtual volume and the external volume is collected. A first network address for identifying an access port of the storage controller on the access path is collected. Also, a second network address for identifying an access port of the external storage system on the access path is collected. Moreover, identification information for identifying the external volume is collected. Finally, the network topology between the virtual volume and the external volume is displayed based on the port connection information, the first network address, the second network address, and the identification information.
