  • Patent number: 10248284
Abstract: To prompt input and provide feedback on input to a user with an interface, inputs and graphical cursors associated with those inputs are defined. Each input may have several forms such as base, hover, engaged, completed, and error. User input is anticipated. The base form of the anticipated input cursor is displayed to prompt the user for the anticipated input. If user hover is detected that matches anticipated input, the hover form is displayed to confirm the match to the user. If user input is detected that matches anticipated input, the engaged form is displayed as confirmation. If user input is completed that matches anticipated input, the completed form is displayed as confirmation. If user hover or input does not match anticipated input, the error form is displayed to indicate mismatch. Not all cursors must have all forms, and some cursors may have multiples of some forms.

  • Patent number: 10168893
Abstract: A computer detects user input within an input destination and determines whether the user input is continuous. If the user input is determined continuous, then the computer determines whether the input destination receiving the continuous user input has been changed during the receipt of the continuous user input. If the computer determines that the input destination has been changed during receipt of the continuous user input, the computer stores the portion of user input entered after the input destination had been changed in a temporary input buffer. The computer then presents the stored user input to a user and prompts a user selection of the appropriate input destination corresponding to the portion of stored user input.

  • Patent number: 7971152
Abstract: A direction-based data entry system displays a field having an initial value and a field location. When the user selects the field, the direction-based data entry system enters a data entry mode in which an auxiliary data entry tool is not displayed. To enter a new value for the field, the user indicates movement across the display relative to the field. As the user indicates movement, the direction-based data entry system may display an indication of a new value for the field represented by the movement. When the new value is the value that the user wants entered into the field, the user terminates the movement, which causes the new value to be the current value for the field.
